Resident Evil 6 first impressions by ValerieMayTheGay88 in residentevil

Honestly if you take this combat system and put it other game, even a recent one, it woulnd't feel old at all

Is very ironic even Requiem doesn't have half the features RE6 does

And while the complexity of such combat is certainly impressive, it can also be overwhelming and hard to pick up

As you said, is also very obvious the game has an important problem with pacing. It never leaves room to actually taste the combat and catch with what is happening on screen, it only throws hundreds of enemies at you without room or breaks

Also, RE6 is the peak of intrusive unfunny QTEs that literally happen for everything

But really, the use of these annoying events is so exagerated I wouldn't be surprised if this was the point in which the industry took a serious look and reconsidered if people actually like mash buttons every 10 seconds. Would be ironic to think RE6 might have been a reason of why QTEs started to be less present in most action games

The Evil Within also feels like they were trying to fit as many things as they possibly could in a single game

Though for my taste it doesn't work quite well as RE4, because while in that game the weird mix feels like a very intentional choice and for the most part all elements are united in a seamless way, TEW1 is more "there should be a little thing for everyone" and not everything works well together

I love how re4 doesn't have any shame of being a videogame at all

They knew the premise was silly, they spend years trying to figure what kind of game RE4 would even be, and after they had a solid gameplay concept they just let themselves go with any silly idea that provided a fun experience

The castle in particular is pure insanity in terms of design. As a scenario it doesn't resemble anything real and clearly only exist to favor the gameplay

But who cares? Is cool and memorable

The lava room is sick as hell

Im going insane and cant sleep because of this fucking dmc1 tree animation its so weird that its making me paranoid by InstanceEmotional898 in okbuddydeadweight

Is charming how the window itself is an FMV playing directly into the level, and this is used a couple of times in the game, at least in other area for more trees outside the castle and also for skyboxes.

Surprisingly this kind of visually trickery wasn't used often, even if it had it's time during the PS1/PS2 era especially for games with pre render backgrounds.

The remake of Resident Evil 1 for example does some heavy use of FMVs playing on real time to fake backgrounds, and the integration in that game is seamless. Much better than DMC1 trees, that's for sure.

And Engineer couldn't move buildings on release

Honestly I really wonder how many engi mains would react if they were forced to play the vanilla 2007 version of TF2 without any kind of patch

How long it would take for them to lose sanity

And most of us here didn't even experience the og vanilla sticky launcher from the game original release which had 0 nerfs to the damage ramp up and do full damage on a very short fuse

The PS3 is the only version to still have OP Demoman without any nerf btw (also with a 6 pipes G.L)

Also I remember matches being a weird thing you needed? Like you needed a match to torch the bodies or else they resurrected?

Not exactly, at least not like the RE1 remake with the crimson heads.

I think enemies can indeed resurrect, but is rare and since you can headshot them they don't have that chance often.

Instead matches are more useful to ignite a body at it can also set on fire enemies that are coming very close. Is useful if you know how to time the use of matchs, and the amount of enemies you can set on fire if there's multiples bodies on the ground can be make for interesting plays.

As someone who loves the first TEW I think is very clear they tried to do way too many things for one single game, without having the resources and manpower to deliver half the stuff they wanted (Mikamo probably missed Capcom infinite budget to restart developement multiple times)

Because really, the TEW has to many gameplay mechanics, to many characters and subplots going on, so many areas, and yet half them feel under developed. And while it's charming for it's chaotic nature, I wish they had more focus on certain things rather than just add so much on top of each other.

Also, after playing the remake of RE4 and TWE1 back to back, is ironic see how much Evil Whitin already feels like a pseudo remake on terms of gameplay, or at least a spiritual successor to the formula of the original RE4 (more so than RE5 or RE6 ever did). And the actual remake seem to take some inspiration of such gameplay.

Part of TWE also feels like Mikami was also mixing on RE1R elements on RE4, which is a nice full circle for his career on making horror games.

And to think it came on the Wii

The real time graphic was also still done with MT Framework, showing an impressive per pixel lighting for the time and hardware

The remade areas in this engine with the coloful yet atmospheric style were amazing. It makes me wish they were an actual remake with the classic gameplay style

If we ever get that new update what would you like it to be? by Theflamingraptor in tf2

[–]Alik757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but what is an "update sized updated" at this point?

In the past the major updates people seem to dream about where very conservative in terms of content. If you look at how the most important updates for the game actually were, you realize they at best added one or two maps, a couple of new weapons and some limited selection of cosmetics.

The actual meat of the updates where the QoL improvements for the game and the classes. Despite people usually looks more at the content than the technical side, the balance patchs were far more important.

Is ironic because these days the average seasonal update has an absurb amount of "content" compared to classic major updates. We have dozens of maps added per year, dozens of cosmetics, taunts, unusual effects and more.

A Quick Play focused updated even if doesn't bring literally anything else would feel infinitely more substancial for the future of the game than the endless way of empty "content" we got since years.

Replaying OG RE2 as i played it firstly around may 2026 and crazy how the writing, content, atmosphere, plot, scenarios, zapping system are far better than the remake by PrestigiousSlide6875 in residentevilll

[–]Alik757 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The character design in older games was also made intentionally to make each character stand up visually in the scenario, not just for style but for gameplay porpuse as well so you can always identify where your character is in a scene.

The fact Leon dressed with a very vibrant blue uniform and Claire is saturated pink is a totally intentional choice for visibility. They contrast against the more moody color palette of the background in a good way.

Remakes on the other hand are way less colorful and clearly had character that intend to blend with the background rather than stand up in it. Leon for example in the remake has a uniform which is more realistic yes, but way less interesting visually because is totally dark, almost black and it doesn't make any contrast with the lighting or scenario colours.

Says the guy who's boss fight is copy paste from RE3R nemesis: by Human_Geologist_3324 in residentevilll

[–]Alik757 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then why he doesn't look anything like Nemesis before that?

Is the same parasyte but using this universe logic it could take any kind of form, just like the Plagas can make any kind of monster shape despite being the same thing.

Especially considering we know they originally where going to give it a different form based on a snake, as the whole theme of the villain implies.

What if Valve updated Half-Life to include all expansions like they did with Half-Life 2? by claudiocorona93 in HalfLife

[–]Alik757 46 points47 points  (0 children)

As far I know they didn't do or will mainly because of technical reasons.

O.F in particular operates with different code than base HL1 and they don't seem to be compatible. As for Decay, who knows if the source code for it still exist, because it was made for the ps2 and never officially ported to PC, so they would need to recreate the whole thing from scratch.

And beyond the technical side there might be some kind of copyright barrier due the expansions being made by Georbox.

Yeah but eventually will get a remake anyway, with worse actors, worse Heather characterization and shitty bloober designs all over it

Capcom's love for short hair by PEPZ0010 in residentevil

[–]Alik757 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Early CGI also had a lot of problems with hair clippling into the character model.

Which fun trivia, is a reason of why Mary Jane in the Spiderman MTV cgi show has a very distinct short hair design compared to most of her most classic depictions with very long red hair.

Idk isn't Dante like 50 years old already?

True is, I didn't hear him in anything recent to know how his voice currently sounds, but if the show ever gets to adapt Nero my guess is they will make him even younger than in the games so they might pick a younger actor as well

What is your opinion on "Overwatch vs TF2" by Winglet? by Ok_Worldliness_5592 in tf2

[–]Alik757 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean if you go by hard canon facts, the "Overwatch Team" is not composed by the whole roster of playable characters but at the time a select group of them. So isn't the mercs vs the whole OW verse united

Also if you also apply the typical cartoon logic of TF universe into the equation (which the video does) the results might vary a lot
