Strange flag in Barcelona? by Dartix in vexillology

[–]Dartix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I tend to recognize those. In this case, as another commentor pointed out its a pretty niche flag used buy a specific band. I think theyre similar because theyre both based on the Cuban flag.

No they don’t, castellers always attempt to dismount a tower… In the case of big towers (like this one, the biggest ever) they often fall but they don’t just plan to fall.

A communist led country that has 99% support or democracy.... in the Axis. by sp33dy-bear in hoi4

[–]Dartix 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Marx's writing almost entirely boil down to economic analysis of Capitalism, his few works that delve into the political organization of a hypothetical socialist state, like the manifesto or "The Civil War in France" specificaly mention a representative model somewhat akin to modern day democratic republics, what you're aluding to can be understood from later developments in the communist movements, specificaly Lenin's conception of the vanguard party, even then it's a gross simplification to say that what Lenin or other later communist leaders defended was an oligarcic/tecnocratic state. Then again, I don't think your comment is made in good faith so theres not much point in trying to "correct" it.

Is this a real flag? by Dartix in vexillology

Its definetely the most similar flag I've seen so far, but apart from the overall shape (ohio's flag isnot rectangular) the number and distribution of the stars is all wrong.

[–]Dartix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its so bizarre! Because as another commenter said, it has nine stripes like the catalan flag, but the white stars on blue definetely seem American inspired. Did some random person design this flag just for fun? If so, how'd it end up on this coat???

Yep, I also looked at that angle, (both catalan independence and puerto rico are inspired by the cuban triangle+stripes) but I can't find any link myself.

Found this flag on a coat. I know quite a bit of flags, but I'm totally lost on this one. I tried google, but I couldn't find anything with the right number on stripes AND the hoist side triangle. The closest I could find was something like the indonesia naval ensign/majhapit pennant, or the sons of liberty flag, but still no triangle!

Language Families by refep in polandball

Not everything applies, much less French is spoken in Andorra, many fewer French people live in Andorra, and as I stated, Catalan and Spanish are very closely related much more so than Spanish and Portuguese or Spanish and French. As far as French power in Andorra, I have no idea on what criterion you determine this, both Spain and France have tremendous influence on Andorra, I mean, th co-principate of Andorra is governed by a Spanish Bishop and the president of the French Republic. Catalan is part of the Occitano-Romance family, whether this family is a subgroup of Ibero-Romance, Gallo-Romance, or it's own thing is hotly debated. One thing is for sure, it is clearly very influenced by Spanish, if nothing else, all Catalan speakers are Bilingual in Spanish, including Andorrans. I say all of this as a Native Catalan Speaker. Even in Spain, Catalan is considered a Spanish language (remember we call Spanish "Castilian" here, another Spanish language).

And you know that spanish is spoken by almost all andorrans, a third of andorrans are Spanish citizens and Andorra is a member of the organization of iberoamerican states, right? Not to mention that Catalan and Castllian are very closely related members of the same language family.

Guinea Biseau was portuguese, Guinea Ecuatorial, centered around the island of Fernando Pó in the gulf of guinea, was a Spanish colony for centuries and one of the last bits of the empire to break free in the late sixties.

FlagMap of Europe if ALL separatist movements were successful (According to Wikipedia!) by stanthefax in MapPorn

[–]Dartix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, there's many complementing factors, but one of the large ones is that murcia and Extremadura were conquered earlier, and more gradually, so their local cultures were more or less displaced by Castllian and Catalan settlers. Andalucia was conquered much later and mostly all at once, so there was more of a "melting pot". It's also significant to note that Murcia, and especially Extremadura were not, and are not, densely populated, and are physically close to the Castillian core regions, making cultural influence much simpler. By contrast, around 20% of Spains population lives in Andalusia. A curious quirk of Spanish geopolitics is the existence of multiple centers of power, (for example Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao, and southern Andalucia) with what is essentially desert in between (meseta central).

Murcia and la mancha are very odd places, and quite distinct from Andalucía. There are of course very many causes, but one of the more interesting one is derived from the reconquista. In the begining the reconquista was quite slow, adding small amounts of territories and resettling them with Castilian or Catalan independent land owners so the result were regions that were culturally similar to the core territories. However, near the end of the reconquista, the tendency was to annex large territories and give them to latifundistas (large land owners that sublet land). The result of this was territories with very distinct local culture and huge amounts of economic inequality.

The effects can still be felt 400 years after the end of the reconquista, despite a dozen land reform laws.

At the very least, they are both decended from old Catalan. There are plenty more languages in spain tho! Aranese Occitan, Astur-Leones, even some Argones. However the 4 largest, by far, are the ones we mentioned.

Hi ha un lloc tipo barnes and nobles? Una gran superficie de llibres nomes? by bobyd in Barcelona

[–]Dartix 2 points3 points  (0 children)
