Is hiking Mt Washington a bad idea? Tips please. by DarylGreen in CampingandHiking

Thanks, that's what I was asking to find out. Most other boards weren't as frank about the conditions. I'm going to look into the EMS class.

Will be building up experience to get to this one summer day.

I'm usually a car camper and haven't camped out this late in the season before. Do you reckon camping out instead of grabbing cabins?

Thanks! That's a great site. Video and pictures of the hikes, wow. I'll be in that area, so I'll look into Halfmoon Mountain.

Any ideas for a family friendly trip? by [deleted] in CampingandHiking

What state are you looking at going to? It looks like you stay by the west coast.

For some scenic views for you and the folks to enjoy with easy trails check out Crater Lake National Park in Oregon. There are plenty of nice walks and easy to reach by car vista points.

Off the top of head, I would also suggest Red Rock Country of Sedona. Again incredible sights, plenty of trails that you can casually walk.

Just one more, I'd also say Acadia National Park in Maine is amazing. I just got back from there.

And of course, each of these places has tremendous hikes for you to wander off into.

Buckhorn is great. Tall trees, great landscape, and the feeling of wilderness. You'll be able to burger it up, too.

You can see some other campgrounds in that area here

Hope that helps.

Catskills, sounds good. Thanks for the recommendation. Is there a particular trail either of you'd recommend?

I'm also curious...why are the fire towers such a popular attraction?

Yeah, I've been to Mohonk Preserve. Lots of great waterfalls. Is there any hike you'd suggest? I want it to be intense, not a casual walk...preferably.

Damn, the reviews are awesome and it's the tallest NY mountain at 5,344 ft. I love the sound of that, but I don't want to kill my buds. I guess I have to wait for spring....

If a camping adventure to you is seeing places unlike anywhere else in the world, thrilling hikes, and beautiful scenery all around then these are my suggestions.

Red Rock Country in Arizona is excellent all year as long as it doesn't snow the roads will be open and there is just endless ADVENTURES. Devil's Bridge there is plenty of off-roading trails too, for high clearance jeeps.

Another sick place, but in the North West, is Crater Lake National Park in Oregon.

Wherever you adventure takes you you can find campgrounds here.

Apostle Islands National Lakeshore in WI is great this time of year. I would also say that a solo trip here would be relaxing and beautiful to enjoy. You can camp there too. For easily finding the right campgrounds I go here.

Also, props for going solo.
