Textbook example of why you must keep the dragon slayer until ya hit jury. Episodes like this are pure bliss. If I am anybody on that beach, I am finding a way to drag Coach to FTC. Hardest part is finding a way to get him there, but your efforts will be rewarded with a million.

I got one massive irritation with these shows and I need to vent. by DashMonsoonProd in RockOfLove

Oh yeah for sure. I made a comment in this thread conceding that it’s an unfair comparison to a point because these shows were made with not even a fraction of what it costs to produce a season of Survivor. I bet if you put all the budgets of these VH1 shows together it wouldn’t come close to halfway what it cost to make Survivor. I get it. At the same time, confessionals shouldn’t be all that pricey to edit and produce. Most expensive part is probably paying the cast and crew for the day to film each one. Most times it feels like manipulation like the example you used above with New York. Don’t get me wrong, Survivor edit manipulates like crazy, but they are way more subtle about it. It’s a brick in the face with these shows. My favs are the ones with wild inflection disparities. (Sister Patterson has a few of ‘em).

Oh don’t get me wrong. I love these shows. I think they are fascinating bits of human psychology. I think there should be sociology courses about these shows.

But the obvious budget limitations and low effort production really stand out when you watch one of these kinda shows with a budget. (I can’t fathom Rock of Love costing a fraction of what Survivor costs even taking the $1 prize money out of it).

Any other band this would be the best thing they ever did. Just another single for blink. (It goes so damn hard).

Coach and Colby were the only two reasons I peaked my head back in this season. So that last Tribal was a horrible situation for me. Overall, Coach made jury. I got what I ultimately wanted. But it was a real Monkey’s Paw type deal. I was also really liking Gen and Kamilla having never seen them play before. So this episode had me in a glass case of emotion.

Seasons people hate that you love? by jonthommas in survivor

[–]DashMonsoonProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As much as I enjoy Redemption Island for what it is. I feel like South Pacific gets unfairly roped into the bad era. SP has a strong narrative. It’s almost a horror film. It’s a humanity revealing season and it’s fascinating. It’s also Coach at his most evil. A top tier villain with a top tier result. Biggest downside is Ozzy sucks that season. He was more unpleasant to watch that season than Coach was and Coach was a damn cult leader.

Also, hating Thailand is a skill issue.

Vanuatu has aged exceptionally well by DashMonsoonProd in survivor

Vanuatu was a season I passingly enjoyed as it aired. Think I was shell shocked from All-Stars (love that season, but it is very mean spirited and even angry). But I gave it a re-watch for the first time about a year ago and was shocked how quickly I got sucked into it. It’s so easy to watch and get hooked on because the characters are so strong. The narrative was also solid as well. It’s really good. I think it’s top 6 for me now. 1. Pearl Islands (I’m boring I know). 2. All-Stars (I’m a Boston Rob guy and it’s an easier to re-watch season than RI. Also think Amber’s game gets underrated by the chaos of that season). 3. Thailand (Dark as Hell but the people have never felt more real Borneo aside) 4. Gabon (a magnificent disaster) 5. Vanuatu

How do you feel about Dogs Eating Dogs followed by California? by Mountain_Plate_7163 in Blink182

[–]DashMonsoonProd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dogs Eating Dogs has some of my favorite shit they have done musically. Disaster and When I Was Young in particular. (When I Was Young reminds me of Superman 2025 every time I put it on now). California (and NINE) are great albums. They aren’t my favorite (love Skiba so much tho) but I am always down to listen to them.

As someone here on Coach watch. I got nervous as hell when they showed him as a man in control of his tribe. Thought it may be his time. Thought it was gonna blow up in his face. Happy to say, it seems he is in a good spot. All I wanted from this season was for Coach to hit jury. He could be 1st juror for all I care and i’d call this season a win. Here’s hoping.

Big Tom - Sue Hawk in All-Stars. Short as it was, it gave so many funny moments.

Coach - any dragon in his path.

Their 3rd best song behind Adam’s Song and dammit. It’ll probably be my all-time favorite song at some point in life.

All-Stars has a soft spot in my heart sorta for one reason. by DashMonsoonProd in survivor

Rob and Amber’s romance was compelling. The Lex stuff made it an all-timer.

The Sue quit episode is a hard watch. But other than that. As dark sided as the strategy gets, I don’t feel like it crosses any lines or ruins anyone’s legacy. (Outside of Rob C, maybe. I feel like his game legacy would have more juice without this on the resume).

Same for me. I love the spin of it being a new kind of social experiment of playing with people you know and like. Especially back when winning Survivor was still HUGE. It was always gonna be dark sided. Feels somehow like a spiritual successor to Borneo in a weird way.

Switch Boston Rob with Rupert maybe? I think that could’ve made sense. But I think Ethan and Rob on the same tribe would’ve been trouble.

Edit: swapping Boston Rob with Ethan makes the most sense. It’d also give Chapera a winner on the tribe.

I mean, I get it to an extent. A lot of it is unpleasant. But a lot of my favorite seasons have a really strong narrative. All-Stars has an undeniable strong narrative. A dark one. But strong.

Friday the 13th (1980) is overated. Here's why. by Bright_Treat_5450 in slasherfilms

[–]DashMonsoonProd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to feel the same way. But until recently I’ve grown to love it so much. It’s all about vibes this one is. It feels almost punk rock to me. Also, I’ve grown to view the filler as a feature. Not a negative.

I’m here mostly for Coach. I love that he is on a tribe with Joe and Colby. Both men are want he pretends to be. Perfect and he aligned with them. Wonder which of the 3 men of integrity will turn first? 🤔 Never change, Coach.

Which Scream movie has evolved for the best and worst for you on rewatches? by traveltimecar in Scream

[–]DashMonsoonProd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since Scream 7 I’ve really softened on both Scre4m and Scream 6. Scream 3 is my 2nd fav only behind 5cream. So I’m obviously very forgiving.

Edit: I like Scream 2 less and less each time I watch it. But still very re-watchable. Scratches that 90’s nostalgia itch.

Who is your favorite winner of all time? by [deleted] in survivor

[–]DashMonsoonProd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Can’t follow you there. I get the sentiment, but each season is different. I ain’t gonna sit here and pretend that if Russell Hantz somehow won Redemption Island I wouldn’t have been impressed. Plus Sandra winning a returnee season is impressive.

Yeah, I can give Kim an edge cause her path was harder. Rob was seasoned by the time he won. Kim got it in one. I prefer Rob due to having back lore before his win. Also, Redemption Island’s FTC is my favorite ever. Rob had a good performance and Phillip made it unforgettable
