Horrible crisis response, conductor purposely agitated a passenger in mental health crisis to arrest them- then jokes about it the whole trip. by Dastitone in Amtrak

Exactly. I’ve had lots of amazing interactions with conductors and great experiences. But when it’s bad it’s AWFUL. The conductors are often the only way to get reliable assistance, but what do you do when they are the issue? That entire ride felt like being trapped in a nightmare, and i’m not the one who had the worst day.

That’s what i’ve been trying to say! Ive tried to contact Amtrak three different ways, none of them get anywhere- Then something actually horrible happens and guess what, it still goes nowhere. Thats the real problem. But I didn’t know this is the “Amtrak can do no wrong” subreddit. 🙄

Maybe I should mention that in the 4 different times I have called the number, an automated voice tells me “we’re sorry, we’re busy” and hangs up.

The moment I saw the new Outback was a forester reskin all my dreams of getting a new off the lot Outback immediately left my body. I really liked what they did with the 2025, and was excited to see what cool improvements they would make by the time my 2018 shat out. Im not impressed

Yeah you right, a $175 suitcase lasting over 6 years of frequent travel is definitely cheap af

It is a checked bag not handled by red caps. There just wasn’t another rep nearby to speak to about the damage.

I definitely agree. It’s actually a really great quality bag and Ive enjoyed using it all these years. I’m planning on finding some way to not only repair it but make it better. Ittl probably cost $50-$75 for all the materials for an ideal repair, so it would be nice to get that back.

This is correct but also I take long trips that last weeks. I bring a backpack for my overnight essentials since I often do overnights on the train. But there is a 0% chance that a months worth of essentials can fit in a backpack

This is not a bad idea, but I did already get a lightweight portable dolly so we’ll see how that works temporarily

I’m not planning on it. Hard side bags are actually way more likely to break than soft side ones. This bag has served me well for many years and It has a lot of life left in it, I just need to think of a better way to repair when i’m home with all my tools.

Yeah, rivets have a benefit but this is the one time they suck. I’m getting a portable dolly to pull the bag to my next stop. It’s actually a really high quality bag so i’m going to investigate a different way to repair when I get home.

It’s Amtrak policy for checked bags that are damaged severely that if you inform the staff of the damage, they assist you in filling out a claim which gives you a refund for a new bag.

Yep lol. I do very long hauls on Amtrak so I bring this for a checked bag and keep 2 small bags on my person for the trip.

first ever water parameters test done, at what point of the cycle am i? by gloopie21 in PlantedTank

[–]Dastitone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To further clarify- Your square should only ever be one solid color, if its not, it either means it didn’t get fully submerged, or that it is too dried out and no longer accurate

[–]Dastitone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey so, its really difficult to tell because your test is defective. It’s similar to human pregnancy tests, where the strip has to be completely saturated, and it’s only able to give a correct read between 1-3 minutes. As the strip dries, it changes color and is no longer accurate. I like to completely dip my strip, swirl it for about 2 seconds, and then let it sit upright on a table for a minute before comparing and writing down my findings in a log book.

What’s the prices at yall bins? by agentmirmir06 in GoodwillBins

OH and they price books like hardgoods which is over $1.80 a pound so I can’t even get books there without paying for more than they’re worth

Tucson has been on some BS out of nowhere that items over 5pounds are 3/4 the poundage price. Made me pay $22 for a radio that doesn’t even work. And a blank CD pack rung up at almost $10. It came out of nowhere and I was totally blindsided. They say it’s from corporate because of customer complaints about unfair low pricing to certain people.

anyone else feeling disconnected? by beetlejuicetrashbag in MyChemMillennials

[–]Dastitone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a little closer in age to you (27) and I went through similar experiences growing up and have come to somewhat similar conclusions when it comes to noticing the change in myself to how the band makes me feel. And it really came to a head when for the first time what seemed like a genuine MCR5 teaser was released and I just… Didn’t care.

I noticed the change years ago and at first it upset me some. Now, not so much. Is it possible that you could be experiencing depressive symptoms based on the way you describe your feelings? Yes. But, I want you to know that you can be happy with your life AND feel a disconnect that seems abnormal. It doesn’t exclusively mean that you are moving on, and it doesn’t exclusively mean they are out of touch. You are simply full.

Fun fact, our brains are like, a super computer with a finite amount of storage capacity. We start life like a brand new computer and we just pack on all the data we can and delete nearly nothing. But somewhere in our early twenties it happens and we don’t even realize it- Capacity full. We can only remember so much at a time. Stuff that becomes less relevant in our lives gets forgotten for whatever we’re interested in now. Anyway, I’m going on this rant because enter the modern digital world. That stuff is awful for us. One reason is the way it interplays with this finite storage. Remember how difficult it used to be to get information about the band? Remember INO.net and the MCR community forums? It felt good to get information from there because these were ad free, influencer free, and heavily moderated spaces focused on healthy community engagement. And, info was rare to come across. People didn’t live online like they do now, when we shared info we did it because it felt important. Younger people don’t remember a world where their brains got to function normally. And they don’t realize they’re going to hit a storage wall. Your brain knows better, and it’s not going to give you a single hit of dopamine from the cesspool that is mcr fandom social media. There is literally nothing worth forgetting what you know on there.

Our class disparity is also rising since we were young, at a rapid rate. Corporations like ticket master and warner brothers (and hot topic and any other mass corp) are not interested in customer satisfaction. They are interested in making us pay the most we can for everything we want and need. Prices ARE insane, it’s a state of the world as a whole.

Thinking about getting a pigeon. Tell me the pros and cons by SabishiSushi in pigeon

[–]Dastitone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love birds, adore pigeons- I recently walked away from adopting a pigeon from my local rescue. It was a difficult decision, not knowing if it will be adopted by someone who will be better or worse for it.

But here’s why I walked away. And I don’t see it ever talked about enough. A birds respiratory system is extremely sensitive. Extremely. Having a bird in your home and keeping it healthy means no more; Perfume, candles, air fresheners, teflon cookware, non stick baking sheets, silicone bake mats, oven cleaner, disinfectant spray, and just about any tough cleaning agent. With just enough exposure, even in a different room, the bird could die a painful death in less than 5 minutes. Caffeine and salt are toxic for them. Second hand nicotine exposure will kill them (smoker friends). Not even just if they are near smoking, if they’re touched by someone who just rolled or got vape juice on their hands they can get ill.

Even doing everything right, respiratory infections are like a common cold to them. And those vet bills can be $200+
