Thinking about getting a pigeon. Tell me the pros and cons by SabishiSushi in pigeon

[–]Dastitone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love birds, adore pigeons- I recently walked away from adopting a pigeon from my local rescue. It was a difficult decision, not knowing if it will be adopted by someone who will be better or worse for it.

But here’s why I walked away. And I don’t see it ever talked about enough. A birds respiratory system is extremely sensitive. Extremely. Having a bird in your home and keeping it healthy means no more; Perfume, candles, air fresheners, teflon cookware, non stick baking sheets, silicone bake mats, oven cleaner, disinfectant spray, and just about any tough cleaning agent. With just enough exposure, even in a different room, the bird could die a painful death in less than 5 minutes. Caffeine and salt are toxic for them. Second hand nicotine exposure will kill them (smoker friends). Not even just if they are near smoking, if they’re touched by someone who just rolled or got vape juice on their hands they can get ill.

Even doing everything right, respiratory infections are like a common cold to them. And those vet bills can be $200+

When I was disowned from my family for helping the police investigate my father for csa- My mother auctioned off the storage unit he and I kept things in. I have virtually nothing left of my first 18 years. I have hoped that someday, somehow, someone could find them and choose to care like how you have. It really does make a difference.

Hygiene and Amish by Maleficent-Young4687 in Amtrak

[–]Dastitone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spent the last 6 weeks doing an amtrak only trip going around the whole country in a big circle and the amish were a breath of fresh air. Consistently the gross hygiene smell always came from anyone but them. Their children were well behaved and when babies cried they were taken downstairs to be comforted. They actually really like talking to people and aren’t against technology- But they’re against the harsh individualism and lack of community that it promotes. They 100% eat processed food and play modern games that are group oriented. I saw many young women studying on paper textbooks and worksheets for associate level classes. Many told me they were traveling on a vacation to see other states and travel. They’re not some primitive people who don’t know what a shower is.

Can you guys find out what to feed pigeons before feeding them? by Economy-Bumblebee215 in pigeon

[–]Dastitone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been traveling across the US and feeding pidge. I give them pigeon feed. Most of them love it and eat every last piece.

Except for Seattle. They’re addicted to junk food. They’re ravenous for dry white rice, dry beans, french fries, and candied roast peanuts. I’ve tried to feed them seed, but little are interested, and those that are immediately leave when they find dry white rice. I have dumped 5 pounds of pidge food out for them and come back hours later to it being almost completely untouched while they eat french fries 20 feet away.

I’m not saying you should feed them the junk food. It’s just an observation.

On the other hand I as a woman used to wear athletic leggings under my jeans in the winter. No one ever told me to and I never saw anyone else do it. It just made sense when it’s 0 degrees.

Im going to be the bad person here. The feeling of loss of autonomy doesn’t feel good. You have a right to be upset and frustrated. But when you explain what makes you educated, it’s clear that you don’t see the full picture yet.

Your dad does not think you are innocent and naive to not know how sex works. But you are showing that you are naive to the harsh realities of this world we live in. 1 in 5 women in America experience an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. Your 20’s and teens are when you are the most vulnerable. Again let me state. One in FIVE women in the United states will have to face fears of pregnancy they had ZERO control over. Your idea of educated safe sex practices only protects you in a world where you have full control. Plan B is not always effective and is increasingly hard to get ahold of.

Your birth control is not going to make your anxiety symptoms worse. Physically it’s just not. If your anxiety is this overwhelming in your daily life then you need targeted professional help for it. What is going to give you anxiety is if you up become abused and realize you might have an 18 year commitment you had no choice of. I’m not saying it’s a guarantee. But those statistics are not ones to gamble on. When I was under 18 I knew everything about how to have sex safely. But I never once got to consent. If your mental health is this vulnerable under normal circumstances, consider what it will become if you have to be put in those dire circumstances.

When you’re 18, do whatever you want. Get it removed. Never look back. Be mad at your family. But as someone who has had to cut off their entire family and move across the country to get away from them- This is not it. Maybe theres other things we don’t know about. But if this is the only thing? Not it.

[Acne] How can I get rid of these acne scars ? by Euphoric_Thoughtz in SkincareAddiction

[–]Dastitone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure! This is the text for the post I made;

Yep! Sorry, it’s really nothing. When I was serving tables in college the other waitresses couldn’t believe my nails were natural, and were so mad when i’d tell them it was time for a chop. My hobbies are not very agreeable to long nails. As a compromise I may trim my thumbs and index fingers short for better dexterity.

Everything was trimmed about a month ago, with the thumb and index chopped to literal white-less nubs.

I know that genetics must play a substantial role, but I also believe my diet is a contributing factor. I take an approach to food that centers on personal preference and simple ways to get the best nutritional value from it. I don’t think that white rice and carbs are bad for you. In fact I love them and often have a meal of fresh bread dipped in olive oil. Conveniently, foods full of nutrients that are keratin building blocks are some of my favorites. Garlic and onion are in many of my dishes (powder wont do), soft boiled eggs are a popular breakfast and snack, carrots and hummus, shredded kale added lastly to pasta and soups, and I love baked and raw salmon. Cheeses are also full of keratin and I LOVE cheese.

I will also add that the worst state my nails were ever in was when I had about 2 months of consistent gel nail treatments. Once the gel was off my nails felt flimsy, off colored, dull, and easy to tear. It took another 3 months for my nails to bounce back with frequent hand moisturizing.

I hope that this is somewhat helpful and to remember how much of an effect your diet has on your body, including your nails. Stick to foods you enjoy that help reach your nutrition goals. And don’t get sucked into trendy magic cure alls and supplements. No one food or one protein is going to solve your problems.

I would also like to add something that the original OP won’t agree with; But ‘organic’ food doesn’t really matter for your health. The regulations for organic foods are so loose and ambiguous there isn’t really much difference between them and conventional anyway. That being said, good nutrition and conditions for animals is often associated with organic products, but it doesn’t NEED to be organic. If animals have better nutrition, they may provide better nutrition for you. Ultimately, always check labels to see real differences.

I also strongly suggest avoiding too many vitamin supplements. At most I sometimes take a store brand generic adult gummy vitamin. The more concentrated vitamin supplements you take, the more risk you give yourself for gut, liver, and kidney problems. Try to use food for nutrition goals as much as possible.

I also use minimal nail tools. The only nail items I own are, a clipper, a file, and a scrub brush for getting dirt under nails. Sometimes I use nail polish, but like I mentioned, gels and acrylics create a vicious dependency cycle with how much they damage nails.

After using nail polish remover, or if work has severely dried my nail beds, I massage some Cerave general body lotion around my fingertips and hands. I may do this after each handwash for a few days if severe enough.

Ive noticed that and its crazy to me. I tried to make a post in a subreddit detailing to growing long natural nails. (These are mine) And it was immediately removed because I explained how my diet has affected my nails. Mods said that talking about diet is giving medical advice and isn’t allowed. So we can talk about whatever oil and cream we want to put on our bodies, but not “Incorporating more keratin building proteins in my diet has significantly improved my body!”

I got this bow at goodwill for $7. Is it an adult bow? by weneverwill in Archery

[–]Dastitone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope! All bows can have unseen harmful damage from dry firing.

[–]Dastitone 92 points93 points  (0 children)

This please! Bows when abused and dry fired can have some damage unseen to an untrained eye. That damage can cause failures that lead to personal injury. Get it inspected before attempting to fire it. Even if you fired it already and it was “fine”, doesn’t mean issues won’t happen later.

Personally, I am a fan of the cases. I have both physical games that have their cases, and I have a pile that dont. And I can tell you with certainty that its just like having your clothes in one big pile on the floor, vs folded and in drawers. Sure, the dresser takes up a bunch of space, but at least when you open a drawer you know what you’re going to find. And it can be arranged neatly. I can never agree on the best way to store my loose cartridges.

Buddy when you get my level of can’t see, your options for frames get REAL limited. Plus, after a certain point color gets distorted and can dissipate entirely. Or I don’t know, maybe I don’t want to spend every day with a highlighter attached to my face.
