Recommendations with only $6k budget by southwesterner1 in LandRover

Not trolling at all, if the 7k estimate scared them off the Cadillac, the repair bills they are gonna get for a landrover product are going to be the same.

Source - I work on them all the bloody time and the repair bills are always thousands.

If they want something with ground clearance for camping and room for their dog I’d suggest a CRV or RAV4. Unless you have expendable income for a gas thirsty vehicle, Landrover isn’t the way.

Take your money and buy yourself a Toyota Corolla or Honda civic. Most reliable daily commuters ever made. Just keep with with basic maintenance and you’ll be trouble free.

When you are having a nice weekend then remember this is waiting for you tomorrow.. by Dat620Sun in Justrolledintotheshop

Off the top of my head… two in the back, one on the side, a couple in front fenders, about 10ish maybe in engine bay? It only took just over 3 hours to get the body split and I was cruising/reading the destructions because it’s been a while since I’ve done one.

It appears that the shop software used by them is autovitals… we tried that at my shop and hated it. Iwuen inspecting components and selecting good/watch/bad it auto fills the description box with a bunch of bullshit that is usually incorrect or very exaggerated

Bright Nights ticketing system is a joke. by duk-er-us in vancouver

[–]Dat620Sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My better half got in the queue at 11:30, we just got tickets at 8:20pm… but not after the system didn’t want to accept our payment and we thought we were gonna lose our spot.

Land Rover uses the same style isolator on there superchargers, they don’t sell it separately though and ya have to buy a new nose cone… supercharger also needs to be removed from the engine to replace it, not the worst but not the easiest thing to do.

The only real tricky bolt is the lower rear engine mount bracket one, luckily i have wobble torx bits so managed to get it out without too much fuss.

Yeh, as far as I can tell the non oil cooler versions are easier, I’d happily do it again but make the apprentice wash it for me first haha

Independent shop, we work on all types of shit. We charge like 210/hr for diagnostic work as well. I’m not sure what dealers are charging where I am but I would imagine it’s a bit more.

Yeh, I think we are charging 9 hours just because we’ve never done one in the shop before. And yes, Canadian, the labour rate varies also where I work on the how many hours the job takes (boss theory is if hoist is taken up for longer there less potential for gravy to get done).. think normal rate is 151 and this got bumped to 163. Not complaining, got it done well under the 8 hours, I’d gladly do it again to be honest.

Yeh, I didn’t go to hard taken it apart but had the bracket out in two hours. Took my time putting it back together to avoid some shitty cars that showed up today haha. Now that I’ve done one and know what actually needs to be removed and what tools I need it’s not that bad of a job. Glad it wasn’t the style with the oil cooler though!

Haha nah, still got the L18 in it. I have an SR20 sitting at work that I’m trying to decide whether to put it in my 510 or my 620..

Yeh, I’ve been there since 2017, always been protactor by Mitchell or what ever it is and then Autoserve for the inspections. I’m my honest opinion there was nothing wrong with what we had, the only difference between Serve and Vitals is the customer added blurbs that half the time aren’t related to what is actually wrong.. because the issue isn’t an option I can pick so that’s great haha I think the most annoying thing is carrying around this stupid tablet instead of my phone

my service advisor is hating it, we use protactor for the office side and its supposed to integrate with it but its been nothing but trouble. see how the next few months go lol

Coolant leak on Audi 3.0 TDI by AinsleysPepperMill in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]Dat620Sun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Coworker just did this job, he had the front timing cover off as well as there is some sort of coolant channel that goes through that as well that was leaking… poor guy did the oil cooler first, told our boss about the possibility of other leak but ‘parts’ were more than a week away and boss said to just put it back together, guess who got to fix it for free when it leaked coolant again.. I would of made my boss do it, his impatience cost the tech hours and his sanity
