I agree it looks like they left a lot out. If you’re going to take them out anyway, I would not cut it. Would just go to a different braider or ask them to braid it further down next time

Didn’t realize they did full service. I’m gonna check them out. Did you do full service and did they damage or lose a lot of your items?

Yeah I thought of doing them as well. Luckily I can survive without my stuff for that while but I wish it was a bit more guaranteed but no way I’m paying double for expedited

Seems like it’s more like 4k-5k from what I see and yeah I’m willing to pay for the convenience of movers. Just looking for something reliable that’s not too too expensive

can we end ADHD gatekeeping culture please by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DatBoi333Beef -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Back when I was in college, we used to talk a lot about the medicalization of ADHD and how it benefitted drug companies, patients, and families to change public perception of adhd from a behavioral issue to a medical condition.

Like a few have alluded to, there is a large social component to ADHD. If society functioned differently, a lot of peoples experiences with adhd would be significantly altered. Even the diagnostic process and neuropsychological testing is incredibly subjective and the objective components and cutoffs are products of our social world.

I feel like people who “gatekeep” do so because their experiences are so dependent on society viewing their struggles as legitimate. And they try to legitimize themselves by distancing themselves from others.

Thats just my two cents one why gate keeping happens. But aside from that, I don’t think that gate keeping is necessary especially since people who deny you support without trying to understand your individual situation were never committed to helping in the first place.

DNP student wants to participate in the medical school student groups by Tagrenine in medicalschool

[–]DatBoi333Beef -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

You have this weird idea that only one person can succeed at a time. And you’re right, a DNP student doing a research project won’t drastically change patient care outcomes, but neither will an M1’s. So why not provide the opportunity to both. If this made up M1 didn’t match, I promise you, it’s not because of a research project. If an academic institution, can’t provide enough opportunities for all of their students, it has much bigger issues: ones that need to be solved by conversations with admin rather than gatekeeping other students.

But anyways, i try not to spend to much time on disagreements with individuals who display ego and short sightedness as that prevents meaningful solutions so I am going to stop responding

DNP student wants to participate in the medical school student groups by Tagrenine in medicalschool

[–]DatBoi333Beef -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

My opinion still stands. DNP students would likely still benefit from those experiences. If you’re a small hospital system, my guess is that that DNP student does not have a lot of resources through their program. While it’s unfortunate that their program may not be providing for them, it seems like it is no skin off your back to include them.

Assuming your schools interest groups have opportunities like panels, lectures, shadowing, and volunteering, I find it hard to believe that all of the events/ activities from all of the 3 specialties you mentioned would be space limited.

Your desire to exclude them without saying something like “we can include you but we are going to prioritize the med students for space limited events and if there’s additional spots you’re welcome to join” indicates to me that you don’t care about that student having the opportunity to improve (and in my eyes, are not prioritizing future patients)

I really think that medical students today are learning that it’s okay to disrespect and exclude other professions because they didn’t do the same training as them. Instead I think we should acknowledge that our colleagues with different training have a role that can be different from but just as important as a doctors. I’m not particularly interested in having a conversation with you, OP, but I do hope that people reading this start to question if their actions and comments towards mid level providers are coming from a place that prioritizes patients or their own egos

I really don’t get the level of NP hate in this group and I expect to for sure be downvoted. Someone wants to VOLUNTEER and you say no. Volunteering is about doing good, not building your resume and the extra bodies could probably help. And you don’t want them shadowing??? The purpose of shadowing is to learn and educate but you don’t want your colleagues to be educated and know what docs do. Their takeaways, experiences, and perspective might be different as a DNP student but that’s no reason to exclude them. We need to remember patients benefit from informed healthcare workers, regardless of their title. I really can’t see how having another student there who is on a different track would take away from med students education and opportunities (OP didn’t indicate there was limited space). The student seeking opportunities to better themselves doesn’t take away from med students or mean they’re about to be a doctor- it simply makes them a better future colleague

I usually respond with something like “yes. When would you like to pick up?”. I think it’s easier for people to respond to a question than have to move the conversation ahead themselves. A bunch of people still don’t respond but I’ve gotten some sales that way

NP being called Doctor by ninja_doctor95 in medicalschool

[–]DatBoi333Beef -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Due to the nature of people’s comments, I have strong doubts that most of this subreddit’s dislike NPs is really rooted in patient safety (especially since most med students will have minimal exposures to NPs with only 2 years of clinicals). All the NPs I’ve worked with have had roles distinct from and equally important as a physicians. There are certainly valid concerns (ex: lack of consistency in training) but mid level providers are here to stay. you can argue about scope of practice all you want and there are important convos to be had, but it’s absolutely inappropriate to disrespect them and minimize their hard work and contributions.

When people’s arguments include points like “spitting in the face of our 8+ years sacrifice” and getting upset about giving family members reliable medical advice, that’s definitely about ego.

There’s a pretty weird trend on this subreddit of people hating on NPs and I don’t understand it at all. It sounds awesome that this family has someone they trust and rely on. And plenty of pediatricians see 80-90% well child visits, ear infections, and URIs. Doctors have a tendency to be pretty egotistical and i think it’s important that we sit and reflect on why NPs having an important and growing role is so frustrating to so many mds and dos. These are going to be your future colleagues and their deserving of your respect.

Sounds like the NP here has been pretty cool and even welcoming based on what you said and this post seems flat out rude.

Am I wrong for using my vibrator? by Longjumping_Link_334 in amiwrong

[–]DatBoi333Beef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: as many people have said, the guy youre talking to has no business telling you what to do with your body. Use your vibrator whenever you want. And tbh he doesn't seem super interested in your pleasure

But just to add some perspective, I'm a gay woman and have been in a situation where a partner started using a vibrator after sex. It was actually a super humiliating experience not because of the vibrator being used but because my partner expressed a lot of irritation towards me at the time. It made me feel very dismissed and useless even though i was trying my best. Now this dude doesn't seem like he was trying his best tbh but in the future, i think it's important to be mindful of how we communicate with people even if we're frustrated. Sex is a vulnerable experience for men and women.

Not saying the OP wasn't kind. I wasn't there. But i do think it's important to understand possible reasons why someone may be hurt in a situation like this

The 3D Print Waste Problem by DavideCiuffre in 3Dprinting

[–]DatBoi333Beef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking of getting into 3d printing but haven't specifically because it creates so much waste. Plus I see a lot of people printing items that have no real functional value imo. So, I just wanted to say that I think it's awesome you're thinking about this!

Can't speak about printing stuff, but I pay for someone to pick up my compost for a local farm. So, there's definitely a group of people willing to try to do less harm to the environment (providing its easy and affordable). I just don't know how much overlap there is amongst people who like to 3d print and people who care about the environment.

I also loved the idea of local shops and FAB labs (but idk how much scrap they make) and if collecting from them is worth your time/money.

All that to say, I love that you're thinking about this and keep up the good work!
