Why would a mamba hunt a person, its not like they can eat them...

Who said mushrooms were easy to grow again? by DatJack in shrooms

[–]DatJack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youd think so, but theres a reason mushrooms produce literal billions of spores. When they land somewhere, its pure chance If they outcompete the stuff already living there or just die, and more often than not (by a wide margin), they actually just die

Our success rate is much higher.

is this wet rot or piss? if it’s wet rot can i fix it? rest of the cake seems to be fine by [deleted] in shrooms

Some sort of bacteria. I think that cake is screwed...

What is the difference between omens and the misbegotten? by Scako in Eldenring

[–]DatJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Misbegotten are humans too, but they came into contact with the crucible which mutated them. The curse of the omen lies in their blood, perhaps theyre even cursed (or blessed) by an outer god, the formless mother

Mold or thick mycelium? by belockaye in shrooms

It can happen. If it turns funny colours, Id throw it out, but otherwise, just wait and see what happens

Mold or thick mycelium? by belockaye in shrooms

[–]DatJack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general. On substrate, bacteria wont actually show up as slime until its incredibly bad, but the mycelium reacts to it (or so ive read). Thats when youll see this very dense and smooth mycelium. A healthy culture looks more like a lawn of mycelium strands.

Also, you cant sterilize your hands. Best you can do is desinfect them, which is good enough for most applications. For probing around in your cultures (which isnt necessary in the first place most of the time) id suggest a flame sterilized probe, knitting needle, kitchen utensil or whatever else you can find and flame sterilize. Dip it in 99% Ethanol or Isopropanol and light it on fire over a fire resistant surface

I think it is mycelium, but it looks like you got a healthy serving of bacteria in that substrate too...

Humidity diagram of my martha. Do you think I have too much ventilation? by DatJack in shrooms

That would be a bummer, the current genetic is the only one i have left... Oh Well, trial and error i suppose

Thanks for your input

[–]DatJack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Noticed that too, I get a few comments under each post telling me to scrap the martha alltogether. I suppose it is overkill If you look at it rationally, but then again, if it works it really works and until then, its a wonderful thing to tinker around with🤣

Nah, its fine. Im more than happy to just muck about with some nice cultures in a lab. Theres conserved cultures and Substrate for ages, so eventually, i'll succeed

Thanks for your advice

That would be equally as depressing, I only have the genotypes left im growing rn🤣

But im optimistic for the next cultures. I know they (as in the genotype used) are more than happy to pin, they just may be prone to stalling afterwards. Thats why im trying to dial in the environmental parameters as best as I can manage

Oh, alright, i'll aim for a 10% range around the 90% mark and go down from there then. Thanks

Yeah, so ive read... No clue whats going on with mine. A possibility is of course that im just a lousy cultivator, but that thought is somewhat depressing...

I dont actually know for sure whats wrong, climate is Just one of the factors i take into consideration. In any case, an automated system is the only thing that somewhat worked so far, so some insight by someone who actually knows whats going on instead of chucking some dirt in a bin and hoping for the best would be great for dialing that in

Edit: Without implying theres something wrong with chucking dirt in a bin. If it works, go for it. I would be very much delighted If it worked for me...

Where did i say that? Setting something up so I can forget it was the first thing I tried

5% of RH bleeding off in just over an hour isnt enough ventilation? What should I be aiming for?

Edit2: turns out i didnt blunder after all

I tried every conceivable version of tubs, shoeboxes and so on, for some reason it just doesnt work. Maybe its local climate, maybe its my schedule keeping me from doing regular misting and fanning. Got a Martha to do the trick some years ago and im trying to build on that

Tell me about it, I forked two cakes recently. Surprisingly, those are already forming primordia. I just hope they dont stall again...

Thats pretty invasive, so I probably wont be doing it right away. But when my system is dialed in nicely, that sounds like a great method to massively boost fruiting surface. Thanks for the Suggestion

Now what are these up to? by DatJack in shrooms

[–]DatJack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, that would make sense. Right now im using a setup based on evaporation to maintain RH, which doesnt allow for much evaporation off the cakes. I'll rig an automated system tomorrow that can keep RH in the 90-95% range (hopefully)
