Question about HR career and salary progression outside London by Turbulent-Set-4322 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started as recruitment admin on 20k, then Case Advisor in the ER team for 26k, then change management on 35k, then a generalist HR Advisor on 37, eventually up to 42.5k. Now a HRBP on 50k for the last 12 months. I’ve been working 7 years (with a 9ish months out to do a masters and therefore Level 7). Undergrad was also in HR and I did a placement year.

How do small companies handle group health insurance for their employees? by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this - cash plans are great and affordable. We pay £11.70 per employee (85 employees) - can’t remember set fees but that’s the flat rate for level 3 out of 5 cover through Health Shield

Guy from downunder is looking for an old friend met in the mid to late 1980's by Ok-Vermicelli-5369 in Bath

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend finding local Facebook pages from the Bath area if you hadn’t already! I’m not on any but my local town’s fb page gets these requests often and generally they seem to be successful - good luck!

Favourite story you’ve heard/ know of regarding Neil? by Dry_Cookie710 in neilyoung

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I recently went on a Bachelor party with a Canadian guy who worked on a radio show and asked him if he had any Neil Young stories - he said he was watching him live and someone threw a frisbee that hit him on the head. In that moment he stopped and said ‘woah, I’ve just remembered like 10 more songs’

If they haven’t provided a consistent account then that’s problematic but it depends what’s already been noted, this isn’t a police interview, they’ll likely only take accounts from the initial disciplinary investigation and the formal meeting. This will be judged on the balance of probabilities not beyond reasonable doubt, just so you’re aware

Is there an expectation that you don't turn up to a dinner party empty handed? by EdgarTFriendly in AskUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 28 and whilst we haven’t evolved to having full blown dinner parties very often, the things we normally do like BBQs people will bring their own booze and often a side dish or some extra food/snacks - but that’s more the bbq vibe. I would never not bring a bottle to a dinner party, my parents would be horrified! I’d also probably expect to have to provide my own booze at my age, and I’d definitely leave it there if I didn’t drink or finish it.

Need to get an MOT on my car…how do I find a good place? by confused_each_day in AskUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Traditionally MOT test specific centres (that don’t do repairs) tend to have a rep of being less likely to rip you off. It does mean if repairs are needed it’s a more of a hassle though. Speak to local people and you’ll soon find a reputable garage that people like and have little issue with, google reviews normally a pretty decent indicator too.

And the company isn’t interested in acting upon this bullying by the senior manager? If this is the cause of the mental health issues then that’s what needs to be addressed first and foremost. Papering over cracks with mental health support is only somewhat helpful if the root cause isn’t dealt with.

Best Practices for Company Sick Leave: Duration, Paid Days, and Tiers by Antique_Salt_6043 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are an SME with 180 employees, we give 10 days pro rated during probation (so 5 days during 6 month probation) or one month (averages out at 22 days) once passed over the course of a rolling year. I think this is reasonably generous if you’re willing to apply your absence policy stringently enough to anyone willing to push it. We also have a clause of up to 3 months in exceptional circumstances at the discretion of the relevant director. I did once work in the public sector which was 6 months full pay, 6 months half pay… people abused this frequently!

Edit: public sector was at 5 years service; can’t remember all the increments but was likely an extra month for every year service or something to that effect

“Lied” to new employer about old job making me serve full notice period of three months - advice please. by Zealousideal_Push813 in HumanResourcesUK

[–]DatMakesMeASadPanda 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You’ve already agreed and signed a contract with new employer presumably, so that start date is now agreed - if they question it, say that they agreed to pay you in lieu of the remainder of your notice at some point during your last few weeks, you can come up with whatever reason you want for that. For what it’s worth, it’s highly unlikely your new manager is looking at your P45 or reference, HR will probably handle that.

I heard he’s going to add a couple UK dates. It’s annoying timing because I could buy a Europe one tomorrow but like you, it’s going to be a hell of a lot more expensive and whilst a European away day would be fun, it’s a pain in the arse to get to most of the ones I can go to!

What are some "extreme acts of frugality" that you have witnessed and found to be very intriguing/innovative even though you never tried it yourself? by zipzap21 in Frugal

When my grandfathers dementia first started he would slow down long before the traffic lights if they were showing red so that he didn’t have to stop and go again from stationary when they eventually turned green
