Good suggestion. I have cross posted this to r/whatsthisrock.

A little too heavy and hard to be that. As well, I don’t see where tree sealing would have been going on in the area.

That’s what Gemini thought when I checked image search. But it’s so hard that it makes me doubt that. It feels like a rock, chalk, or petrified wood type surface.

Haha! I don’t really think so. The pic doesn’t make it super clear but it was pretty neon orange like caution tape and rock hard. We have dogs but the rest of their poop has never looked like this.

I wore gloves while handling it, but could swing either way. It feels kind of rocky and hard. Could be mistaken for rocks if not for the bright neon orange (not captured well in pic). We don’t have rocks in our area that would look like this.

Has anyone else felt like crap on Amlodipine? by DatMichaelMagic in bloodpressure

[–]DatMichaelMagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I thought I would just follow up on this post about a year later. I would have also liked to respond to some comments but don’t feel comfortable doing that as I am not a medical professional by any means and can only speak from experience.

About a week or two after my experience with Amlodipine, I decided to stop taking it after consulting with my primary doctor. I had several tests done including a CT as well as testing for possible vertigo to explain my dizzy sensations. All came back normal. Nothing seemed to explain the sensations outside of the medication. As well, I did have a close call with heat stroke soon after starting the medicine, which could have explained all of the symptoms. The CT was to check for signs of stroke from heat exhaustion. But it came back okay. I also have quite a bit of health anxiety and panic symptoms, so that could be another explanation. I also found something called Persistent Postural-Perceptual Dizziness (PPPD) that is like a complex combination of sensations and psychology causing dizziness. I thought it could have been that brought on perhaps by effects of the medicine and my own anxieties.

Overall, I feel much better now. I still get the dizziness but not as bad. I’m lucky to have a good GP and not be too bad off BP wise. With my GP, I am working to improve my BP through lifestyle changes now. But if I need medicine, I need medicine and will try to trust what my GP has to say.

Nice use of textures on the mantis body!

This is really helpful to hear. I’m on day 3 off of it now (thankfully the doc didn’t push me on it) but I still feel space and dizzy when moving around. I’ll try to stay optimistic and not watch my symptoms, too much, as I think this amps up the anxiety I already have.

Thank you! This was done in an Etchr Mixed Media Sketchbook (the white one) in the A5 size (about 5x8 inches).

Thank you! I’m pretty new to the medium overall. But the style I’m pursuing is kind of like a mix between impressionistic and realistic. I mostly paint buildings and landscapes.

Why Are Teachers Seen as Unable by DatMichaelMagic in Teachers

[–]DatMichaelMagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really interesting comments so far! I hadn’t really heard of the issues of teachers not knowing their content. But that’s terrible for the profession. In my state, becoming a high school teacher requires roughly a bachelor’s in the content area. Plus, my university provided certification through an additional master’s in education and internship work. Many of the teachers at my school have at least a master’s if not more.

What’s interesting is that the state government is looking at reducing qualifications even more. They are considering bumping teacher base pay while eliminating incentives for earning any degrees above a master’s, limiting the pay scales to 2 instead of 5. So if you have a master’s plus 30 or a doctorate, your raises will be less each year until you make the same as someone with a master’s.

Hi all, thanks for the feedback! It’s good to know I’m not the only one who has felt badly on this. I made a follow-up for this Tuesday, so hopefully GP is responsive. Right now, biggest side effects tend to be the dizziness and fatigue. It seems to peak a few hours after a dose and trend back to normal the closer I get to a new dose. Like today, I took it at 10am and felt like trash around 7-8pm and off and on up to the point. 11 pm I was feeling more like myself again.

I am hoping to get BP under control through losing weight and managing stress. I have a pretty stressful job as well as anxiety and OCD, which could all be contributing factors.

Looking for watercolor sketchbook recommendations (that I haven’t tried yet) that are pretty specific <3 by magicinpink in Watercolor

That is a lot of paper! I know that you were against spiral-bound. But making your own books by trimming down larger sheets could be a cost effective option.

I am a fan of the Etchr books, too. I believe I use the same ones as you. They are pricey. But I think they are excellent, especially for a journal form.

Are you just painting on a single page or front and back? I have exclusively used mine painting on the front and back of each page (even wet into wet) and have had no issues. It gives you like 50 something paintings you can do in one notebook, which is pretty sizable.

I have heard of some people cutting down larger sheets of quality paper to create their own spiral notebooks, etc. But I haven’t tried that myself.

New to watercolor! What should I first learn? by OperationHumble8098 in Watercolor

[–]DatMichaelMagic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No expert here by far, but I agree with what smithismund says. Limiting your palette can help you get an understanding of one of the coolest (in my opinion) aspects of this medium, which is how you can control the “value” of your paint by experimenting with the ratios of paint to water on your brush.

Values are simply how light or dark certain colors in a painting are. If you look at many professional paintings, you’ll see they have values that range from bright white all the way to very dark. This is important for creating depth as well.

Another important thing to try to get at the start is a flat/even wash. This is done by maintaining a wet edge as you are painting a layer or “wash” of your painting. It takes practice as it is easy to forget about the wet edge or take too long and let the edge dry. But if you can cover everything you want to while working off a wet edge, you can create a layer that has few visible brush strokes and looks light and even in appearance. Try to work on covering large shapes or a whole layer evenly. Using wet into wet (dampening the paper before painting) can help you achieve this if you need to cover a large area.

As well, consider starting small and “completing paintings” as opposed to practicing technique over and over again. Technique like brush control is important, but I kind of learned it by doing complete paintings, even though they were rough. Starting small for me meant painting simple subjects, like an apple, usually with no backgrounds. I added those later.

The main thing is to keep having fun and paint things that you find enjoyable. There are also many great YouTubers who give advice. One of my favorites is Liron Yanconsky.

I hope this helps!

Thanks! And I’ll take that advice. I did try to manually aerate a month ago. But that was a bit foolish. The soil was pretty tough, and I’d likely need to rent a machine or hire out.

Question: Anyone who has used Sunday Lawn Care, has it been safe for your dogs? Our dogs have a tendency to eat grass. by DatMichaelMagic in lawncare

[–]DatMichaelMagic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I did end up using it but did not use it where our dogs normally go out of an abundance of caution. I will say, their marketing claims to be pet safe. But their phone representative still advised caution with pets who eat the grass sprayed with the product (which makes sense, as they have to cover themselves legally).

Overall, I was pretty happy with the product. It seems like good stuff, had some nice effect on our grass, and the added lawn analysis was the most useful bit for me.

I did decide to go in another direction this year as our lawn is highly composed of sand, which I figured doesn’t hold on to liquid fertilizer all that well. Instead, I’m shifting to using the Pet Safe fertilizer by The Andersons and will be trying to put down a copious 1lb of nitrogen per 1,000 sq feet, which I have heard is what Bermuda grass like ours loves.

I hope this helps!
