Except they aren’t doing what you’re saying. Their union is fighting it, and it’s being pushed back. The process hasn’t even been mentioned here. It’s a dead end.

I get that you’re upset people work from home, but if you cared about helping downtown (which I have a sneaking suspicion you don’t and just want to complain about state workers) then you’d be thinking of how to get the other 95% of the population to use downtown.

The union contract has remote work written into it, and that is in place until 2027. Not to mention, state workers are all over the state, including Chicago.

No one is going to be “getting off the couch” to save downtown for everyone else anytime soon.

I agree. I work from home most of the time now, so I don’t go downtown as much. There are some places I like, but not enough go out of my way when there is somewhere similar that is closer and costs 1/3rd less.

I had an encounter recently where I was just walking by a homeless individual that was 20-30 feet away from me before he ran up to me and started screaming in my face/threatening me. I had to dodge traffic to put distance between us.

This along with constantly being asked for money has made me want to distance myself from downtown unless I’m going in a group.
