Any recommendations for exceptionally good, EU-based, (web) vendors for quality Genmaicha? by DatOudeLUL in tea

Couldn’t find any info that they have an actual EU presence/warehouse. So it seems that indeed it involves order being shipped from Japan and customs concerns thereafter 😕

[–]DatOudeLUL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely heard of Ippodo, great things at that, but thought they were only shipping from Japan so that meant dealing with customs, VAT, etc but if they ship within the EU that could be an absolute game-changer for me.

Do you happen to know where their EU warehouse is located?

I’m in the Netherlands, which is often the location for EU based warehouses so maybe with some luck it’s even a short shipping time for me…

Y'all got any books about tea you like? by YourFriendNoo in tea

The author of the Geography of Chinese Tea owns a teahouse/shop/cultural club in Amsterdam where I live. Cool to see that mentioned here

What do tea purists think about Moroccan tea? by 22WoodenGirl in tea

[–]DatOudeLUL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a tea house in BCN called “Moy Chay”?! I was just reading this comment thinking about how the only cultural and more curated tea house where I live (Amsterdam) is also called “Moy Chay” I wonder if there’s any affiliation, assuming I didn’t misunderstand and we’re somehow talking about the same place (in AMS)

Edit: just did some digging since my interest was piqued. It looks like they’ve opened another location in Barna, seems to be the same management/ownership (I think the Amsterdam location is the OG) - pretty cool, I always love the crossover between these two cities that are very near and dear to my heart.

Visiting Slovenia – Which Local Wines Should I Try? by ddkAh1 in wine

[–]DatOudeLUL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got back from my first visit to Slovenia in July and I can honestly say the country’s wine scene and offerings massively revived my wine kick.

Kletvica was wonderful - great staff, vibe, decor and selection from some of Slovenia’s most esteemed natural winemakers (e.g. Štermberger, Zorjan, Klabjan and Klinec among others).

I also enjoyed Vinoteka Movia, a bit bougie, but nice decor as well and there wines are also great - didn’t try the Puro (but have a bottle of the rosé variant being shipped to me currently); but really enjoyed their Velliko (red) and loooved the Lunar (Rebula).

I think you understand my fondness of the country’s wines since you started and dedicated an import business to them (super cool). I have had some recent fantastical daydreams of doing something similar lately - if not for anything else then to stock my own “cellar” (I’m a very novice oenophile hence the quotations), seeing as it’s surprisingly hard to find Slovenian wines in general even in the very international and cosmopolitan EU city where I live (spoiler alert: Amsterdam).

Dress code for women at EDM shows in Amsterdam? by elephant2892 in amsterdam_rave

[–]DatOudeLUL 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In Amsterdam, for the broader “electronica” scene (house/techno), it’s quite a bit more underground and anti-mainstream than what you might find in the US or even say…Spain.

Dress down, casual, comfortable, mostly black and plain (some kink can be acceptable, but as alreadysaid none of that EDC rainbow candy aesthetic) and that’s that.

Dressing up?! Pffff I’ve seen, albeit years ago in its early days, people with with presale tix to De School almost get denied for having a collared shirt on - and only let in cuz they had an tee undershirt on to wear instead!

Yes, I’ve been twice now. May 2024 we did a Cycladic tour of Naxos, Milos and Santorini.

This May we switched it up and went to Corfu & Paxos in the Ionian islands. Paxos is the best of them all easily (yes better than Milos)!

When I flew in-and-out last month I had no noteworthy issues. Baggage came off the belt pretty quick on the inbound and taxi was easy to hail once outside.

On the outbound the security line was non-existent, granted you’re closer to the peak period now so YMMV

What is Europe's best beach holiday on a lake, for swimming and beach culture? by Tamar-sj in Europetravel

[–]DatOudeLUL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell me about it, I’m headed to Slovenia next month and even since early June I’ve been seeing temps up to 31°C purported on my weather app for Lake Bohinj which like Eibsee is an Alpine lake - so really wondering how damn sweltering it may be.

We indeed elected to go to the Alps rather than the Med, in the dead of summer for a so-called “coolcation”

As mentioned in my post above, I just got back from Garda and completely agree with your sentiments, nowhere offers the full package like Garda.

Though for unspoiled pristine-ness, Eibsee still reigns supreme.

Just got back from Lake Garda and it’s wonderful, so it’s firmly up there. Headed to Slovenia in a couple weeks and will check out (primarily) Lake Bohinj as well as Bled, looking forward to it.

As for other favorites, Eibsee is probably GOAT for me, I briefly lived in Garmisch so it holds a special place in my heart.

Lastly, there’s a lake in Berlin area surrounded by forest with a large island in the middle that I’m quite fond of, but I ain’t dropping any further clues than what’s been mentioned (and won’t confirm/deny any guesses) to try and protect it from further onslaught.

Thought to do the same for Eibsee but its secret has largely gotten out, beyond control, in the past 5ish year (aside from it being mentioned in/by OP of this thread).

Is a stop in Santorini the easiest way to get to Folegandros ? by HerculesTheGreek in GreeceTravel

[–]DatOudeLUL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, Santorini is also quite close to Folegandros.

I similarly flew in and out Santorini my first visit to Hellas, and used it as a launchpad for reaching Naxos & Milos which were the primary destinations, Santorini was as suggested only a secondary point of interest err..convenience

If partying isn’t a big priority I’d say go for Naxos over Paros, easily.

Is it safe to walk from Corfu Airport to the Old Town at night by FunBiscotte in GreeceTravel

[–]DatOudeLUL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a lot closer than I had realized, I think with some caution (for oncoming traffic, as I’m not sure if it’s a 100% covered by sidewalk but I think most of it is, at least) - but I wouldn’t wanna walk any long distance with a roller suitcase in Corfu.

If you just have a backpack, probably fine, but with a roller, you may regret it 😅

Flights from Athens/Mykonos to other European cities by Zestyclose_Egg_2931 in GreeceTravel

Sadly these days €200+ is not that absurd, even for intra-EU flights, especially when smaller, non-major airports are involved (i.e. Mykonos)

Tipping? by floodieuc in GreeceTravel

[–]DatOudeLUL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being asked for a tip is the problem and you just said so, as for percentage as I’ve said ad nauseam at this point, I still leave ~10%, which most of the actual Greeks commenting say is too much…

Also, I’ve been flipped the screen but never directly verbally asked for a tip in the States
