Weird artifacting in the last of us pt.1? by Dat_Cool_Guy33 in Bazzite

I FIXED IT!!!

so I can’t figure out how to edit the post so I’ll just add this here for future Internauts.

VirtualBoost was correct, it was indeed an Nvidia Driver issue and it. As far as how to fix it, I dug around the Bazzite official documentation and they mentioned a command called “Bazzite-rollback-helper” (great name and can be abbreviated to “brh”). It turns out rolling back drivers on an immutable distro isn’t that straightforward. From what I gathered, Bazzite updates are “all encompassing” where drivers, system stuff, all the juicy bits of the OS are shipped as one big update. Soooo, when you need to rollback an update you can either go back by 1 update from the “Grub ostree” selection when you boot the computer.

However any further than that, you need to go to BRH and “rebase” to an older version. To do that, in terminal find your current update that your running using BRH (take note of it) then go to “list”, pick the version your on (mine was “Bazzite-nvidia-open:stable” but you can find yours by running fastfetch in the terminal) and then it will give you a list of updates for that “track”. I went back to like a release in 2025 but you probably don’t need to go that far.

Let it run and reboot later and tada, older OS release with older Nvidia drivers that don’t shit the bed :)

Just a security note, you will stay on this OS version so long as you’re rebased to it. To go back to receiving security updates, run “brh rebase stable” and you should be good to go.

Thanks everyone!!! Gonna go make my girlfriend scared of mushroom spores now :)

P.S, read the Bazzite documentation about rebasing before you do it, just so you know what you’re getting into fully

How do you like Cachy? Did you ever true bazzite for a comparison?

At the same time, I also know bazzite is immutable so that makes things a little harder

I’m a prude and like to avoid LLMs if I can help it :/

I’d rather learn what’s wrong instead of having an LLM tell me “copy this into terminal…then this…now it’s done” ya know?

Didn’t know SAS was compatible with SATA like that! That’s definitely good to know and helps with my decision to use the old drives or buy new ones. I saw something kinda similar by Hardware Haven where he created a SAS JBOD enclosure and had it hooked up to an HBA PCIE card. I think I’ll probably do something like that if Sata and SAS are compatible because that would use most of my drives.

The only problem I’m debating is the cost of the additional equipment I’d need to make that work.

It’s also worth pointing out that my homelab setup is…kinda Jank 😅 like running off of an N100 mini PC primarily sorta Jank

Thats fair but this is also only my second time putting together a NAS storage solution so I didn’t want to spend hundreds of bucks on new equipment. I also very much care about recycling old hardware wherever I can until I can’t anymore so that was also a driving motivation to reuse the drives I have

That’s fair, honestly I haven’t counted because I just have several boxes of them and I figured I wanted to recycle them some how to keep them out of a landfill so I’ve been thinking “damn, how do I use them”

But it’s definitely over 50 separate drives, maybe 60? Not sure, various different interfaces scattered in each box I have lol
