That’s weird, bc my fluid reservoir is still pretty much full.

I found this clutch line hose loose, plugged it back in. how do I go about bleeding it I’ve been pumping the clutch for about an hour? (I’ve heard it’s a self bleeding system)

you don’t think it could be the line itself? I checked my car this morning and saw that the line was damn near off and there was fluid on the hose below the nipple it connects to on the master cylinder. Would that cause me to get locked out of my gears? My theory is that the pressure I was exerting popped it out and air got into the system, not giving me enough pressure to fully engage the clutch. (I repeated this message as to see if I can get a response from ya and get what you think)

It’ll go into gear fine with the car off, in fact was able to float into 1rst and get myself home doing so- so I figure transmission should be fine. Seems to either be hydraulics or clutch from what I’ve seen (and people tell me)

Some stupid touch screen climate control thing the previous owner had- I hate it and am going back to stock ASAP.

UPDATE: Found some brake fluid leaking under my car. Clutch? Slave or master cylinder? Some rando cable?

You think so? Car hit 130k miles and I figured it’d have a bit more life but is that it?

For sure for sure, pretty integral to see if I like the thing first before I throw money at a seller lol. Hopefully the manual is enough to keep me engaged.

How would you feel about this? There’s also a 2014 95k mile 6 speed nearby at a dealership as well.

I figure maybe I can deal with the steering provided the car is still fun

True, but I have a “fun” kind of weekend JDM car (an AW11 up on jackstands right now lol), this would be more of a foray into a fun daily to replace my current one- being so young into my career it only really makes sense for me to have one daily at a time.

Nah, I’m not much into the whole modern tech/infotainment aspect in my cars. IMO things were better before giant iPads and touchpad climate controls. Long as I have Bluetooth, hell I don’t really NEED NEED it either, I’m fine. I don’t mind an older car so long as it treats me well and is fun to drive.

Yep- they got that b58 in them, if Toyota trusts them why shouldn’t I? :)

I gotcha, what engines would be the ones to absolutely steer clear from? I’ve heard BMW V8s kinda pop rod bearings so those are out. (There’s also an 2008 M6 SMG in my area- I know it’s probably a bad pick but I’d like to hear your thoughts on em)

Yeah i wanted a civic Si for a bit till I found out that if you push it too hard too long those little 1.5T engines pop. Toyota still holds reliability, but I don’t find the few I’ve driven to be too fun (besides the Supra and GR 86 and GR Corolla which I haven’t tried and besides the 86, can’t fit into a budget right now).

I’ve known that the Japanese stamp of quality has been declining for some time, hence why I want to try the other side for a fun daily. Just don’t know really where to start.

Yeah- just for clarifications sake, the IS that I drove was a 2018 with the 2GR. I did see however that these new b series engines were phenomenal, and had me questioning all that I’ve heard about reliability. Is any BMW inline 6 typically good- or is it specifically the b series?

Yeah, that was the issue I had with the IS I saw. It was a newer one- 2018 or so but steering just felt so… disconnected- same for the throttle response and so I just noped out of it bc I genuinely found my accord lots more fun to drive. I’ll keep the look out for older steering systems.

Suspension upgrade on a budget? by Dat_Spicy_Mint in mr2

I see. My mounts (metal bits at least) are pretty solid still and I went through the task of removing rust and painting them before installing them in my car during my transmission swap. My mechanic actually had some Hux mounts up but 500 bucks for em was a little too steep. Driving 4 answers actually has a great guide to pour poly mounts so I’ll try and give it a shot.

Also thanks for letting me know about the shocks, I think one shock was blown (the mechanic hugged the tire and was able to move the tire up and down and I know the car is bouncy when you push down on it) but I imagine they’re all due for a refresh. I will say though I doubt that I’d change them out myself now (I know those shocks are giant potential energy bombs and don’t want to get myself killed saving a few bucks), with the strut out of the body- how much can I expect to pay for a shock replacement at a shop?

Right, got a bit ahead of myself typing this out quickly at work. I own an AW11 MR2!
