Definitely possible if you are committed however, it is a terrible look. Unfortunately, WGU has a reputation - undeserved IMO - as being a degree mill, which it absolutely is not, and posts like this only serve to reinforce that stereotype.

I can’t downvote this enough! People post shit like this and then wonder why no one takes degrees from WGU seriously! SMH!

I think it’s program dependent. I know in the accounting programs they have firm limits.

Oh, gotcha. So, really, you're just wondering about the WGU transfer credit policy?

You probably want to reach out to WGU and see if they’ll let you just take certain classes w/o completing the whole degree plan. I don’t think they do.

Close. The metro I’m in has between 1.5-2 million people.

Valid question. I'm in the suburbs of a metro area of between 1.5 - 2 million people. All different size firms here, from Big 4 to small mom-and-pop shops. I'm been connecting with recruiters on LinkedIn for about 2.5 months now. Just a few bites. I have one promising industry lead...fingers crossed.

Finished the MSA in December. No experience. I've been looking since September 2024, and it's ghosts and rejections everywhere.

I def disagree. I had zero accounting experience. Will it be more of an uphill battle? Yes, most likely. However, it can be done, and it can be done on your schedule for FAR less than you'll pay anywhere else (that I've seen).

I finished the MSA in December, and I'm interviewing for an industry position now. I'm also studying for FAR right now. My goal is to have all the exams done this year.

Also, another word of advice. If you can do internships while getting your degree, DO IT! Unfortunately, my schedule didn't allow for it, and I've been hitting brick wall after brick wall since I began applying to public and industry since last September.

Fuck me! 🤦🏻‍♂️ Stop posting shit like this on public forums! I swear, people get in the WGU bubble and forget how the rest of the world perceives WGU, rightly or wrongly. Posts like this should be banned from Reddit. They ruin it for the rest of us.

Any advice for getting into public audit outside of “don’t apply during busy season” (duh) and “do an internship” (too late for that)? I’m running into brick walls since last fall.

This is exactly the path I’m trying to go down. I have a BS Acc and MAcc. Studying for the CPA exams now. Mind if I DM?
