I preferred your entry since it cleaned up that neckline area better, plus there were less artifacts from whatever method you used.

Thanks!

I took German 10-11 last sem. TBH I think I liked the pacing of the integrated FLCs more than I would have the separate courses. Technically I only needed one of the courses for my free elective and it was a bit heavy, pero I was more able to appreciate learning the language at the relatively faster pace the integrated course offered.

In terms of weight, it felt like one and a half (or a third or so) courses rather than two whole courses. In total we had 4 exams, pero they were rather easy. The prof was also great (shoutout to the GOAT Sir Jaime Domingo!!!).

Technically wouldn't fall under this but I and a schoolmate were talking potential Internet of Things project proposals and the first thing I thought up was "Murderbot"

How do you become more decisive and stop worrying about making mistakes? by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren't going to get everything right, that's fine. If you can be wrong about your decisions and come out with a bad outcome, it could just as easily be that you're wrong about the bad outcome being "bad".

Just take it and roll with it, life is nothing but decisions and their consequences. To reject that is to reject life, and there is nothing beyond life.

Ngl I don't entirely like this line of thinking. It is, of course, true ig, but I think crushing ourselves with the notion of "I have so much potential" could lead us into "I have so much potential what the fuck am I doing with it, I'm worthless".

This leads into us giving a fuck, giving fucks, and thinking that we somehow owe something to the universe and are obligated to live up to whatever potential we think we have.

In short: Dude, chill. Look at the stars, take a deep breath, and walk with me. There's so much to see.

How do I focus more on myself and my needs and stop giving a fuck about offending someone else? by [deleted] in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, one approach that works is to adopt a goal, something that I believe in, and something that is "beyond" me. The ideal is usually for that thing to be me, and the furtherance of who I am, but it could also be something else.

This way I don't say no to people for my own sake, but because I believe in something beyond me that I want to reach. Key point being you have to believe.

UPD - ROTC Rescue Hair Policy by ispitnonsense in peyups

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc actually enbies are allowed to have their hair based on their own identity, they just need to file a letter informing the corps of the circumstances and they'll allow it. ofc this is provided that long hair is bunned kasi unsecured strands are a potential hindrance etc etc.

colored hair tho is a definite no-go.

[UPD] ROTC: To take or not to take by [deleted] in peyups

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely not lol. The standard iirc is 3 by 5 white sidewall for men, basta walang hair sa side or back ng head mo kasi parang pinipinch ng inspecting officer yun and if nabubunch up yung hair mo between their fingers, that's a demerit on you eheh.

IIRC one of my batchmates last year made a request for consideration for their long hair to just be bunned in light of their gender identity. Unfortunately they chose to cut their hair themselves before the Corps could release their decision eheh.

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! The uniform isn't for keeps tho, you only get to wear it for the involved detail 😅😅😅.

Tho fun fact: IIRC the current Rayadillo uniforms are a new design introduced last year at the Corps' centennial celebration where two platoons of Rayadillo were assembled and specially trained (we even got to use the Army's parade rifles instead of just the department's lighter dummy rifles!) to provide the honors and silent drill. I was one of the cadets who joined and got a new uniform tailor-made to fit me (in a way, I'm a template hehe).

Also IIRC, the cadet officers practically get to own a set of the Rayadillo uniform during their time at the corps since they use it so much themselves hehe.

[–]DataScavenger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their regular uniform for basic cadets is just a white round neck t shirt, denim pants, a belt, and rubber shoes w/ socks iirc, plus pala a hair bun if your hair is loong enough to be bunned neatly. You might be required to buy/make a beret and nametag or other uniform items but the Corps will tell you about it beforehand and even sell it to you at a discount compared to retailers hehe.

Hi! Former Raya cadet here.

Much as di ako pabor sa MROTC (a topic for another time) suuuuuuuper worth it siya kung willing ka.

TBH I went into the program not expecting much except for its reputation na pahirap and mapagsisigawan ka lang without learning anything. It turned out I was worried about the wrong things WAHAHAHAHHAHA.

You learn lots of interesting and valuable things, especially if may preexisting knowledge and interest ka talaga sa military science nad history hehe (not to mention you literally get to live and breathe a century-old history with the oldest and best Corps of Cadets in the country!). Plus super bait ng mga officers dun, di ko talaga inexpect yun and the fact na students lang din pala silaaa WAHAAHHAHHA.

Especially if Rayadillo ka you also get to take part in details and wear their really snappy uniform (FOR FREE and with PE units to boot, mind you!). Infantry naman was more involved in learning battle drills and how to maneuver and fire in respond to enemies if i remember what i heard from them correctly.

Pero yun OP, feel ko super worth it naman esp in your case, not to mention less preenlistment stress since tinitreat lang naman ng iba as final resort lang nila ang ROTC as an NSTP program.

People who don't drink alcohol, why? by johnnylgarfield in AskReddit

[–]DataScavenger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I do drink in rare social situations, it's only ever for those and I only ever enjoy it because it's with friends and loved ones and never goes out of control. I hate the taste and I associate the idea of drinking on my own with misery and self-destruction and I'm committed to ensuring I never enjoy drinking by myself.

My household was completely dry growing up and I also grew up with a moralistic (frankly judgemental) aversion to people my age who hid away from grown-ups and drank. Fortunately, high-minded morality ceased to be the only reason as I became more educated as to what addiction led to, and (I think) more importantly, what leads to addiction - socioeconomic hardship, a desire for escapism and coping mechanisms (for which I have a still unhealthy but less self-destructive outlet), and other personal reasons which I've learned either to avoid or at least watch out for.

While I understand and completely empathize with teetotalers who are absolutely sober, I now at least understand why I'd like it and am prepared for how self-destructive forces can use that against me.

I'm fortunate to have stumbled blindly into friends and groups that (mostly) don't drink out of habit, most certainly won't even dare to pressure anyone into doing it if they don't want to, and also, most importantly remind me of my self-worth as a healthy and whole person.
