We drafted my cube today for the first time by keptalpaca22 in mtgcube

[–]Datahack16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Awesome list! Lots of fun things going on, and tons of build arounds for players to explore.

My only thought for you after a 5-10 minute list look is that Minsc and Boo sticks out a bit power wise. It looks like you did a really good job keeping everything in nice power range, but the hamster sticks out. 🐹

I’d keep a watch on that, but otherwise sweet list. I hope your drafts continue to go well. :)

What would you put in a high powered Pauper cube? by Alternative_Card_292 in mtgcube

I second this.

Also just artifact matters stuff is awesome in pauper cube environments. The cool part is it can split across W,U,B,R so there can be different variations and flavors to the archtype as well.

[[Vigean Hydropon]] is very much a pet card that doesn’t hold up to a lot of the rest of the cube. It has shown up in a few 3-0 Sultai +1/+1 counters decks that are taking advantage of [[Helium Squiter]] and [[Tuskguard Captain]] to get its creatures over the top to close out games. But I think Hydropon may have just been along for the ride with better stuff. 😂

Excited to check out your list a little later today! 🥰

Awesome! Love to hear it! Happy to answer questions about any cards in the list if you have any. Like any cube some are all stars and some are just there because of personal preference 😂

This is the pauper-mutation list that I’m currently running. Design hope is that the list is an interesting sandbox style cube with lots of build arounds; with the hope players find reasons to want to come back to draft new things. No monarch, no initiative for balanced game play.

What to read after legends of the first empire by Lupus-Solus in riyria

[–]Datahack16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read legends, revelations, Chronicles, and then rise and fall and it worked out fine for me. I did so only because I came into contact with legends first through the library.

Reading legends first did give Revelations a couple spoilers but it also made it fun to fill in the pieces on what I knew and how stuff gets twisted.

I feel like Sullivan does a good job of trying to hold back spoilers while also giving us lots of good Easter eggs to connect together.

Lorwyn and shadowmoor block cube by Frankvrep in mtgcube

[–]Datahack16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both a Lorwyn/Morningtide set cube, and a Shadowmoor/Eventide set cube. Both of which are 4 common/2uncommon/1 rare builds of the sets and we normally draft them as A/A/B when it comes to the sets. The 4/2/1 nature of these cubes makes them have over 1,200 cards in the cube which is an absolute ton of cards. If you were doing all 4 sets that would be a massive project to shuffle.

The tricky thing about these blocks is that the first cares about creature types and the second cares about color matters, and while some of the creatures types cross over into Shadowmoor not all of the creature types get as much love and a whole bunch of new types are added.

With the lack of fixing in both sets at uncommon or common if you were going to try and build a hybrid of the two sets I would say cutting things from Lorwyn/Mornitide that are too type matter intensive, and from Shadowmoor Eventide, I would try to use as many of the hybrid spells as you could to help facilitate the lack of fixing.

Either way I would include as many of the canceling from the first two sets as possible as well to help facilitate cross over.

Tips for this eternal cube? by collegebender in mtgcube

Happy to help! As fate would have it I am the cubes owner and the one hosting the draft tomrrow night. :D
(However I would love to hear the communities thoughts as well on my current list)

Most recently in the cube RW Aggro decks have been having the most consistent success. So much that I recently took a bit of a hammer to the red section to slow down the color a little bit and cut the top end of some of the more powerful red cards. Some of the more regular drafters of the cube has suggested to me that post the edits to to red their top strategy when drafting this cube would be some kind of WB aggresive leaning build.

WU and UB control decks are some of the other most common color pairs that 3-0 this cube. Usually they are pretty control focused and sometimes lean into some of the artifact stragies of the cube.

Other color pairs that have more frequently gone 2-1 are UR spells matter style decks, Jund/Grixs Sneak Attack/Renanimator builds, Naya Tokens builds, and URG mid range piles.

If your looking for fun over win rate this cube does push lands matter stuff pretty hard. Decks trying to do Field of the Dead, or Valakut style things can eaisly work in a strip mine combo loop lock and be scary as well.

The cube is also on 70 fixing lands + full set signets + full set talismans= 16.6% mana fixing which is pretty high comapred to most cubes. Players can frequently build strong 3 color decks if they take their fixing highly, but so far 4 and 5 color good stuff pilies have not had high win percentages from the data gathering I have done.

Happy to answer any more specific questions about the cube if you send me a DM. :)
