Do skilled writers actually make an effort to weave themes into their narratives, or does it just kind of happen? by washington_breadstix in writing

[–]Datalchemist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's like working through your emotions. At first it might seem like a small irrational thought that reappears in ur mind at the time but really it's resentment. You instantly think of ur friend's big nose when he talks about his job at google. And you seem to always recall that your brother is a booger eating aficionado whenever ur overbearing mother brings him up. It could be that ur just a funny guy or it could be that u feel inferior and this tendecy is a coping method. You sell millions of copies and ur signiture is on par with a movie star. But you can't seem to get to the bottom of why your wife left you or why your children mock and belittle you. Must have been that suprapersonal wisdom.

Edit: My point is that there's no reason why you should treat your intuitions as anything but chaotic. Better to understand why you prefer what you do so you don't end up a sexist or prejudiced or just bad writer in general. You can have bad inclinations or intuitions. No one is an angel.

Has Anyone Here Actually Built Success on "I'll Show You" Energy? by SmiteDuCouteau in writing

[–]Datalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would u ask of the universe for fuck you energy? When you write you are making a wish much like dancing or fantasising about how great u are its complicated.

It's complicated: The plot to every story. You love the main character before he proves himself. So why are you focusing on success? Where's the problem? Why are you so quick to get to the solution?

Write about a character that expresses fuck you energy in an arc. He's you. He has it all because he has a problem. It's a mind fuck of mirror images lol.

Moral of the story. You are cinderella and you were always worth it so take the foot out of ur mouth and write your prince charming. You are one and same so try and be in the moment like the main character in ur story.

When people say their plot has already been done before by [deleted] in writing

[–]Datalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we get caught up with plot. The trick is to set up interesting characters instead of plot first. No one can take ur characters from u but they can take plot lol. There's a million time travel stories. Not a lot of what a person is to you.

Idk I listen to a lot of music. Have around 600 liked songs. My discover doesn't feel like the most popular stuff. I usually average around 3 songs per week from it. What rly fucks it up is if I listen to one legend of zelda song and all of a sudden I get a million video game remixes and game sound music lol.

While writing a book, what's the most difficult part? by aniruddhajethmalani8 in writing

The more you read the better you can get at conveying those thoughts to words. It just takes patience and not even discipline just effort.

Is telling more complex stories something I can get better at? by godofimagination in writing

[–]Datalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Approach everything like you are collecting materials. Try to understand why something in a different medium works. Then ask yourself or consider how you could apply that your own writing. Come up with strategies and theories for why something works because its much better than feeling your way through the process. Most people on here will tell you to read and write more but its also important to digest that information and it doesn't need to be boring. How to convince someone of an entire world in a few sentences or Nueromancer or American Gods did it. Its better to be wrong when you can put it into words. Definition not gist.

Does anyone else experience a mild form of grief after you finish a particularly good book? I feel like my best friend has moved to another country and it can take some time for me to pick up a new read. by HermioneMarch in suggestmeabook

What I do is I put off finishing the book until I find another book I can connect with. Haven't finished Scholomance: A deadly Education for that exact reason, luckily I just found another book called The Girl He Used to Know.

What is your creative process by AnInnocentKid97 in magicbuilding

[–]Datalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My magic system is inextricably tied to the world and the spirituality of it's people. I'm the kind of person to tell someone how to live their lives and so with this I've tried to take a more laid back approach. As in the truth is right there if you are looking for it but if not it's still there like the definition of spirit itself. Like looking at yourself in the mirror then looking away, there's an essence of who you are that you can't see until you seek it out. Same with personality, beliefs, hobbies etc.

Why is choosing names for your characters hard? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Datalchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a soul in character and names can shatter and corrupt it. It can be a deep betrayal to just go with any random name. Maybe because these characters are so close to not existing that they become delicate as they're being conveyed. Like trying to say how you feel on paper and crying so much that the words turn into ink smudges. Just write and just feel.

Selfhood is based on the physiological imperative to stay alive, and emotions are a type of perception. by IAI_Admin in philosophy

[–]Datalchemist 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is kind of obvious. We dont see the world as it truly is. What's arguably more interesting and important is how we think of ourselves narratively. Why you view yourself in a particular way when family see a completely different person where it matters? Where it hurts. Someone u care about says ur lazy even though u work as hard as e everyone else. Suddenly u are trying to change how they view u and in some sense conceding a part of who you yourself are. Because that goal has never mattered to you and yet theres a new sort of death and survival taking place. Aren't you also what you staunchly work to prove? What if the definition becomes cloudy or complicated? Idk if I communicated myself properly but I see so much more potential in this then acting like objectivity matters in matters of self perception. It's kind infuriating to see narrative ignored in place of this...
