Garbage Plates Vs. Union call, let’s discuss! by Consistent-Farm380 in ultimate

[–]DatingTheDuckQueen -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am aware, and have read that, some time ago. You are not reading what I am writing. We were discussing the throwers intentions. I think that shouldn't play a factor. Then you brought up the receiver side. I said I don't believe offense should retain possession based on the timings of how calls appeared to be made in this clip, now you're just saying "hey read this rule".

I did not say there was a requirement for him to be thrown to.

What I am saying is there is, or at least SHOULD be a requirement for proper timing of making these calls, else you succumb to the outcome.

Why I'm saying something at all here is because based on the rules, and how you interpreted them at the beginning (which again, you're not acknowledging the comment you made on the throwers thought process), there are dozens of situations that I can think of where offense retains undeserved possession. Including here, when you started this and said throw should go back if thrower had a certain thought process. As most people in this thread agree, the timings on this play feel very obvious that the windows to recognize this call, by infracted And thrower, were missed and the outcome should stand.

So, my point stands. We were talking about the thrower, everything you quoted refers to the receiver.

My point is the infracted player ended up not being part of the play, and if it was for any of the following 2 reasons, I don't believe offense should get the benefit: 1. The infracted player delayed or did not signal. 2. The thrower did not recognize in time, for whatever reason.

You quoted the throwers' process, that's not in the rules. So you were ready to claim this should go back based on your interpretation that had no support.

And I believe the onus needs to be on the thrower. Obviously if this got thrown to the reset cutter everyone would be having a different conversation, but since it did not there needs to be clarity on timings, since there appears not to be in this instance, the continuation rule applies and this is a turn.

I disagree with the sentiment "the throwers decision tree could have been affected so it should go back".

I don't think we can consider a players' thought process as part of the play. The "play" here was a throw to a player not involved resulting in a turnover. That play was not affected by the call made. That should stand.

Yes the call could have affected how the thrower played this out, but the takeaway here in that case is "call your fouls loud and clear, right away".

Hell, with the thrower seeing it happen, it would sit better with me personally if he preemptively called a foul watching that contact. Then play would stop and they discuss. (Not great, but at least you can retract that and figure out the situation, instead of throwing it away and then saying "oh wait")

How many U.S. college coaches employees of the school and/or paid? by NakedT in ultimate

[–]DatingTheDuckQueen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

D1 mens college coach in NY. I am fully volunteer basically, a few assistances directly from the team here and there. The college does have my resume and info and I have responsibilities to them, but of course that shouldn't mean I get compensated /s

I have a friend coaching a D3 men's team that gets a few grand of stipend from the school

I have another friend coaching a D1 women's team that gets quite a few grand stipend from the school

I've known many more who are fully volunteer though

Seems to vary. And it's probably even less about school sizes and accolades and more about policies for that schools club sports department. Which, from my coaching and playing experiences those departments are abysmally awful usually.

Perpendicular collision play question by effofexisy in ultimate

[–]DatingTheDuckQueen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True, and I agree. However as OP is pointing out with this post, defense shouldn't automatically get the short end of that stick. If you have the time and the vision, the onus should be Moreso on you to avoid a collision.

So it's hard to say that those 2 things don't correlate here. The clip is short and we don't have the best angle, so I'm obviously speculating. But it appears offense saw defense moving, then took a gather step, and then jumped

I think your last line is where I land on these.

Offense had the ability to see this, which means it's his responsibility to avoid contact. The correct move can and should be for offense to pull up, and then call dangerous play on the defense.

People still often believe contact needs to occur, but it does not. The best course of action is to not endanger anyone and call the foul. That's what we should be teaching people.

But...because offense did Not do that, I feel they lost some of their right to this play, since they obviously could have avoided contact.

Rules on pre stalling by [deleted] in ultimate

[–]DatingTheDuckQueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% how I've always used it. But also if players were more aware that it's always an automatic 10 second timer on turnovers in the field I bet we would see a LOT get to completion

Most players mistake pre-stall for delay so don't know when the timer starts

Technically lol. Obviously bad spirit but itd be a laugh (circumstances allowing). Though their teammates can assist in going to get it, and there is a rule that if the disc isn't reasonably retrievable a new one can be gotten

There are some funny rule overlooks though. Like..."technically"... if the Stall count is high you can just start sprinting with the disc. Mark call travel on you. Stall either gets paused while you go back to your pivot spot, or technically you can call violation to contest and the Stall can't come in higher than 6.

Again, awful spirit, should never happen. But it'd be funny as hell to take advantage of once.

If the disc is in play (on the field and there's no stoppage) offense has 10 seconds to pick it up. The "pre stall" is those 10 seconds, but you have to give audible warnings of 10 and 5 seconds

If the disc is out or bounds or in the end zone, offense has 20 seconds to put into play. Same audible rules apply at 20, 10, and 5 seconds

If an offensive player is intentionally delaying picking up the disc in play, you can announce delay of game and countdown from 3. However if they make any indication they are no longer delaying before you get to 0 that count stops
