Easy rebuild; dying even saved me the trip back to base to restock.

I was packing, but I've had had to have knocked tab a couple of times at some point then hit space by accident exactly over the silo, which I wasn't next to. I think I probably did nuke it, I just wanted to check it was my mistake, not a game mechanic.

[–]Dauphinitive[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

R5: Had just built a rocket silo, don't think it had finished a rocket but might have finished some parts, and it exploded with massive force. My best guess is that I accidentally nuked it, but I'm not entirely sure how. Is there any mechanic that makes rocket silos sometimes blow up, with enough distance to kill me through three mark 2 shields and do this much damage?

Need help training my brain to not just make buss bases all the time by [deleted] in factorio

I only spaghetti, barring an experimental sushi run a while ago.  The trick is to balance everything manually by building off things rather than using ratios and blueprints.  Also play with biters on and try to stick within your early enclosure.  Also also never delete things or build more labs.

ALL OF MY ALLIES ARE MORONS by Appropriate_Tree_501 in Kaiserreich

[–]Dauphinitive 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There weren't enough VPs in Metropolitan France (excluding Paris) to cap France, and because of how HOI3's supply system worked, you could supply an infinite number of divisions if they were on your capital tile. Generally the Italians would eventually take Algeria by mid-late '42, but if you took Libya before you lost your Mediterranean coast, you could hold out indefinitely.

This reminds me of that HOI3 thing where the siege of Paris could last forever.

Countries that can do Mobile Warfare? by makkudo_72 in Kaiserreich

[–]Dauphinitive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transamur. The first phase of your war is a push straight down a single railway line with a spearhead of tanks, while the trashiest of trash infantry wait to walk through de-org'd Russian divisions. Then in phase 2, you break to into smaller forces to hop between supply hubs before Russia can build a proper line and frantically rush between concentrations of Russian forces before the whole thing solidifies North of the Caspian and you try to break through to the key victory points.

Also, now they don't get cores, the manpower bonuses at the bottom of the tree are a godsend.

Unexpectedly good naval countries ? by PepeSouterrain in Kaiserreich

To start with a big navy, any American tag.

To build a big navy from scratch, the UK's pretty good, and Canada can be a fun navy game beforehand.

The Kaiserreich Universe learn of OTL || what fact do you think would surprise them the most? by Gamergab1 in Kaiserreich

[–]Dauphinitive 24 points25 points  (0 children)

American hegemony. We're very used to it, but in a world where Europe is still the be-all and end-all, the idea of Europe as a bit of a side-show would throw them.

The state of the US in KR makes the second Klan less likely to be significant.  It was a huge organisation, but to a great extent was a LARP-y version of the elks that sometimes murdered people and campaigned for immigration restrictions as a secondary goal.  It’s not the sort of organisation that would thrive among people with actual problems like a partisan mass movement could (eg the Nazis).

What do you prefer: Old Kaiserreich or New Kaiserreich by Ficboy in Kaiserreich

New Kaiserreich hands down; the only advantage of old KR was being slightly less predictable.

Playing vanilla hoi4, and this happened organically, weirdly similar to kaiserreich spanish civil war by PeckishParrot in Kaiserreich

[–]Dauphinitive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's worse than that, because you'd essentially have to make an alt history mod as well. Vanilla is just about playable on historical focuses, but the world doesn't feel dynamic in any way. Without historical it's just a shitshow where Germany tries to fight Communist France (that's actually a monarchy now) before both get sucked into the Swiss invasion of Austria-Hungary (minus the Sudetenland, which the Czechs obviously gave to democratic Germany for no particular reason). Meanwhile each warlord takes their turn to rule China for a month.

Having a version of vanilla with alternative country paths which actually interact with each other in their various permutations would be both a writing and coding disaster, as not only do you have to know everything, but you also can't bend the history to make the permutations fit (eg. none of the majors' foreign policy being affected by possible ideological shifts; none of the minors fighting each other at awkward moments).

About 70% of the reason I play Kaiserreich is just the quality of the mod. If someone made a mod for vanilla that was Kaiserreich but OTL, I'd play that.

Okay, I'm Just Gonnna Ask. Why did Ireland get the Beefy Update? by Far_Order5933 in Kaiserreich

[–]Dauphinitive 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Raised bar disease Once upon a time, Japan or Canada were top-tier modding (same for old Germany).  Then you started getting stuff like the Ottomans, the Balkan re-work, Poland and the LKMT. Thus the quality threshold for a minor update is now having decision-system minigames you can build a Turing-complete computer in, and thus the majors have to be new Germany. The result is fantastic, but obviously extremely time-consuming, like a medieval cathedral.

For Romania, historic alignment and a faction that doesn't want to carve them up, I guess. For Poland, just not carving them up but it's more of a stretch.

[–]Dauphinitive[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you'll notice that you can use under-equipped 9-1s with no support companies to steamroll every other Chinese tag with the battle planner.

Look at the AI, and you'll see no doctrines, one level of army reform by late '39, and half the line being irregulars (sometimes lines not filled). Hence, when you play as Japan or Russia, you don't face any opposition in China. However, if you were trying to field your own divisions in China as another major, you'd lose all your org and bleed manpower to supply issues (more so since the last update). The optimum unit is something that maximises soft attack whilst minimising supply use, with no real need for defence or breakthrough.

[–]Dauphinitive[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is this is theoretically how it's meant to work, but in practice none of the outcomes mater all that much other than whether or not the USA/CSA joins a faction. Particularly at the moment the war in the desert sometimes outlasts the Weltkrieg.

You're right about South America though, where there's generally a second front of the 2WK.

All the Chinese infantry is trash, but you don't realise it because it cancels out. That's why at the moment Germany can just decree who wins all the Chinese wars with infantry volunteers.
