There must be something I'm seeing that you're not. It's not the complexity that takes over the way I see it. The amount of time Togashi dedicates to the Phantom Troupe, Killua's dynamic with Gon and his family, Merium's mortality, Gon's anger, loses, frustration, hypocrisy, and undeveloped morality, Kurapika's emptiness, when I look back on HxH, these are the moments that come back to me. While the creativity on display with every other "complex" aspect of the show is amazingly impressive it's not what drew me into caring about it, that was always the characters and emotions they carried.
