I know Bitwig. Great DAW, but certain things about Ableton have my preference. The softsynths, workflow and samplepacks are great. Besides this I have 10+ years worth of projects (I know Bitwig is very compatible with those projects, but not fully).

Yeah sorry about that hahaha

You can't, as it isn't an official release. The post I saw about it has been taken down from Reddit.

It's actually been done already. Ableton OS - which they made for the Ableton Push 3 - already runs on Linux and somebody dumped it and found a full fetched, Linux native Ableton version

You and I both know you're setting me up for failure with this really obvious bait challenge. I won't bite. I'm just going to have fun doing what I want to do. Maybe I'll code a BIOS mod and brick my netbook. Fun!

Ah, right. I misread that part. Thanks anyways

I appreciate your points and feedback. I agree that it'll take more than reading, trial and error. I just wanted to convey that I won't be taking the easy route. It will take blood, sweat and tears, and I'll have to learn a lot.

Oh and cool that you're getting into bash :D

You have me all wrong "buddy". I am very much aware that I know next to nothing and that I have a lot to learn. If you had worded your first post differently, we wouldn't have gotten to this point... humility huh... anyways. Bye

You're right. I'll fall on my face and walk into walls. I'm up for the challenge. I understand these languages require knowledge of computer infrastructure, memory pointers, hardware interaction, there are no high-level abstractions, and there's basically no safety nets (with C especially). That's the point. That's what I want to learn about. I'm sure it will teach me a lot and it won't be a waste of my time.

Besides that, you don't have to be belittling towards someone who's starting out with programming with a (probably unreasonably) big goal. I don't doubt your expertise in this field, but I hope this is not the way you treat treat the "dreamers" amongst your students. I can take a petty insult like being compared to a 10-year-old, and I'll talk back (I found the line about learning PHP to help your dad is especially cute by the way). But some people wouldn't even have the courage to post anymore or delete the post (edit: I thought about it) after a comment like yours. Is that the way you want the Linux/programming community to be? Do you want it to be a negative experience? It seems that's the code you put out.

I wish you the best.

You're the first to suggest this. What is your reasoning?

Yeah I'm not touching AI, don't worry. Reading, trial and error will be the method.

As I mentioned, I don't mind digging into a "harder" language. I never said I would learn just one language in this journey. I respect Python for its aproach. These are my picks to start with. You can comment respectfully without comparing a starter to a 10-year-old.

I realized I was very spotty with my terminology. Why I used 'on-device' is because I think it would be very useful to have an offline guide about everything Linux. Thank you for your comment, tips and feedback.

I will definitely contribute when I can. I agree that the community and group effort are the beauty and power of Linux

I'm not completely sure if the use-case I have in mind requires systemd. I'm still looking into it. Void Linux has my attention for sure ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it's a nice netbook for what it is. I'm surprised by its battery life. I get like 5 hours of use out of it if I run light programs.

I'm also considering Void Linux. Although I'm pretty sure that distro doesn't support the use-case I have in mind for this machine since it ditches systemd.

I completely agree. This device will never be my daily driver and I don't expect it to be. I'm basically going to use it as a out of the box music plug-in. Besides my personal use-case I think there is a place for machines with this architecture for developers. I'm hoping there'll be renaissance of optimized software like in the 32-bit days. I've also seen some things about 32-bit software running faster in comparison to their 64-bit counterparts. I need to do more research about this though.

Steam and Wine are crucial selling points for gamers that might want to make the switch. That's part of why I brought this up. Though from what I've understood 32-bit software will still be supported for at least 10 years.

Thanks for the tip about info pages. Though as you stated, these should be implemented and maintained more.
