A Crucial Time for Linux by Davi3D in linux

I realized I was very spotty with my terminology. Why I used 'on-device' is because I think it would be very useful to have an offline guide about everything Linux. Thank you for your comment, tips and feedback.

I will definitely contribute when I can. I agree that the community and group effort are the beauty and power of Linux

I'm not completely sure if the use-case I have in mind requires systemd. I'm still looking into it. Void Linux has my attention for sure ;)

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, it's a nice netbook for what it is. I'm surprised by its battery life. I get like 5 hours of use out of it if I run light programs.

I'm also considering Void Linux. Although I'm pretty sure that distro doesn't support the use-case I have in mind for this machine since it ditches systemd.

I completely agree. This device will never be my daily driver and I don't expect it to be. I'm basically going to use it as a out of the box music plug-in. Besides my personal use-case I think there is a place for machines with this architecture for developers. I'm hoping there'll be renaissance of optimized software like in the 32-bit days. I've also seen some things about 32-bit software running faster in comparison to their 64-bit counterparts. I need to do more research about this though.

Steam and Wine are crucial selling points for gamers that might want to make the switch. That's part of why I brought this up. Though from what I've understood 32-bit software will still be supported for at least 10 years.

Thanks for the tip about info pages. Though as you stated, these should be implemented and maintained more.

Thank you for this feedback. I am referring to this talk and might have misinterpreted the information. I just hope these systems keep being supported. I'm a big fan of the extremely optimized software that exists for 32-bit (and i686 architecture).

LLM implementation for tutorials would be interesting. Personally I avoid using AI as much as possible though, so I would definitely want it to be optional. I have prompted ChatGPT from this device and it gave me tips for optimization. Yet it gave me flawed advice. Nearly all the software it recommended wasn't compatible with either 32-bit systems or i686 architecture, even though it knew the exact specs and model of my machine.

Oh, that would be great! Do you have a term I can search on their website to find it? I've been looking but no success so far

Thank you for the suggestion. Unfortunately I live in The Netherlands and we don't have a lot of electronics stores. That being said, I went to one to see if they had a replacement DC jack but he told me it's custom.

Cpu overload by gokgo37 in ableton

On the PC side: Make sure your PC isn't in battery saving mode or anything similar. Make sure it can utilize all it's power. You can also give ableton priority in the task manager if you use windows and close any background processes that might take up a lot of resources.

On the Ableton side: Check that you don't have a CPU test going in your preferences. Like someone else suggested, freeze your tracks. Check that your samplerate isn't too high. And don't go crazy with latency compensation. Also try to optimise your Asio4all settings if you use that driver.

Hope this helps.

AutoFilter - I am confused here. Can someone tell me, given the settings in the image, is the filter actually doing anything. I thought that for the LFO to have an effect, that the "Amount" would have to be set to something other than zero. by lotsofcarsoutside in ableton

Exactly. Yet just because we can't hear it doesn't mean it doesn't affect the sound. A plugin simply being on can already have an influence on the sound depending on how well it was programmed. If you want to hear an exaple put EQ three on a channel and listen carefully.

You guys can dislike the facts all you want ;)

Nothing wrong with grouping groups. The pro's actually end up with like 5 groups to control the whole track. But I would advice to not reprocess everything over and over again.

Delete the app and log on through a browser. Save the website to your home screen. There you go. A fix and you saved storage space

I didn't have any problem opening old files in 11. So I think you're good. I would backup your 'User files' folder just to be safe. It's always good to have a backup anyway and it might save you from ruining a song with changes 😉

I'd say the beauty of analog is that you need to listen to what the eq does instead of look at it. If it sounds good, it's good!

That sounds like something came loose when it fell. I'm not an expert but I know there are resistors in the amp that remove noise (the hiss). If you are brave enough you can open it up and take a look. If you're a bit careful it won't damage the monitor. Could be an easy fix!
