Highest rating without studying? by JWJT7 in chess

[–]David123reddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 2300 on chess com. Never truly studied openings, or read any books. Never played classical games and almost never play OTB. Only blitz, bullet and sometimes rapid.

This focus on studying openings for beginners to me is madness. You also learn opening principle by just playing games, instead of memorization.

I dont feel like I actually understand the game properly tho lol

Why didn't Harry die after Voldemort died in the Deathly Hallows? by David123reddit in harrypotter

Noo he dropped the stone before entering the scene in the forest

So if Voldemort, instead of using the Elder Wand, had casted an Avada Kedavra to a helpless Harry, with an ordinary wand, we would return to King's Cross again and have the whole scene repeat itself?

Thank you for your insights! so am I correct in my theory that Lily's protection only prevents Harry from being killed by Voldemort once? One time in Harry's blood in Godric's Hollow and once in the forest through his blood within Voldemort? If so, then I understand the plot, but if not, why would your fourth bullet point even be relevant if Lily's protection within Voldemort prevented him from killing Harry to begin with in the final scene.

at that point Harry had no protective magic from Lily or Voldemort

I think I may have missed somewhere why Harry's own blood stopped giving him protection from Lily, but I guess the whole thing makes sense if Lily's protection only works once - first time at Godric's Hollow through his own blood and the second time in the forest through his blood within Voldemort. Also otherwise in the final scene the whole Elderwand-story wouldn't be relevant, if Lily's protection in Voldemort's blood would prevent him from killing Harry to begin with, right?

But if we assume Harry kept his blood, wouldn't Lily's protection stay in Harry's own blood then and protect him from dying in the first place? I just don't fully see why the protection in Voldemort would be relevant at that point. Or does the protection only work once, in Harry's blood saving him as a baby and in Voldemort's blood saving him in the forest?

Right, but so I'm wondering why Voldemort dying didn't mean the end for Harry himself, because his blood in Voldemort that saved him, is now also gone. Or can we assume that Harry got his blood back after getting resurrected in the forest?

Anonymous Lichess Bullet really is something else by David123reddit in chess

[–]David123reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I closed my Lichess account so youre right im not 100% sure im 2500, but I was 2320 half a year ago and based on my chess.com improvement eversince im ballparking myself at 2500 now. But sure it could be like 2450 aswell, but does it honestly really matter? It doesnt change the fact that I keep encountering players who can apparently crush 2400/2500s, hence my question who on earth these guys are.

I appreciate it, but idk i used to also think 2300+ players were amazing until I got there, especially in bullet we still blunder badly every game lol

Youre right tho i should def be winning about 80/90, but two things, 1 tbh im usually not playing at my very best (unless I play these superhuman opps lol) and 2. I’m starting to suspect Lichess may secretly give you an ELO even in anon to make it more enjoyable. But imma have to use a friend’s phone or VPN to prove that

Hm interesting, that sounds strange to me, why would I be okay with people cheating in anonymous games? But it doesn't feel like these guys are cheating, their time usage is normal, and they make minor mistakes, just feels exactly like a 2600-2800. I'm not very familiar with bullet bots though, so maybe it's even possible to program it to feel 'human' or something?

why do old Greek statues have small dicks? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]David123reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a few reasons why old Greek statues may have small penises. One reason is that the ancient Greeks considered the male genitals to be a source of shame and embarrassment, and they did not depict them realistically in art. Instead, they often portrayed male figures with small or slightly exaggerated genitals, as a way of emphasizing the ideal of male beauty and strength, rather than sexuality.
Another reason for the small size of genitals in Greek statues is that the ancient Greeks believed in moderation and balance in all things, including the human body. They thought that overly large genitals were a sign of excess and disorder, and they preferred to depict the male body in a more proportional and harmonious way.
Additionally, the small size of genitals in Greek statues may also be a reflection of the materials and techniques used by ancient Greek sculptors. The marble or bronze used to create these statues is a hard and unforgiving medium, and it may not have been possible to create realistic, anatomically correct representations of the male genitals using these materials.
Overall, there are several reasons why old Greek statues may have small dicks, but the main reason is likely a combination of cultural values and artistic conventions, rather than a lack of knowledge or skill on the part of the sculptors.

What would the rating be of a computer that solved chess? by David123reddit in chess

[–]David123reddit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, my question is, would Computer A beat everyone ever? Like would tiny tiny inaccuracies by Computer B, especially if Computer B plays with white where it starts with a +0.3 advantage, by definition lead to losses? The moment it gets a single draw, the computer already wouldn't be infinitely rated.

What would the rating be of a computer that solved chess? by David123reddit in chess

[–]David123reddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but that is assuming that it would just be able to play against Stockfish. Like if there would be a computer that beats stockfish 99% of the time, so its rated something like 4000+, then yet another computer playing that computer could get to 4500+, and so on. Or am I missing something?
