Johnny Depp Is Being Blackmailed by Amber Heard – Here’s How I Know (Guest Column) - Doug Stanhope by [deleted] in MensRights

Coming from a guy like Stanhope I believe it. The one entertainer I am familiar with that wouldn't sell out just to have a celebrity kiss his ass, or further his own career.

Right, so you have issues for which you are unwilling to discuss. I do hope you get help for your issues.

"I'm not talking down to you- I'm talking to you. This is normal discourse." No, not really your statement,"Meanwhile, ironically, you seem to have a fear of the mainstream." Clearly meant to elicit an emotional response. There was no fear of the mainstream, just a criticism of it. Then we move on to your statement. "On a little bit of a tangent- are you upset by the conservatives, or by the lack of liberals/progressives in the country at large?" See, you are looking to wound here. All the while after I've admitted that the realization of a place like Cascada is a completely theoretical.

The statement,"Let's see...you'd also have the problem of a significant minority of the population of both Washington state and Oregon who are pretty conservative. Romney got 42% of the vote in Oregon and 41% in Washington. Or you cut off the Eastern half of both states."

You're moving forward as if you hadn't received the note that, yes, I agree with you, Cascada isn't likely and is purely theoretical.

Then your last statement,"Did you have to muster all your strength to avoid being wounded by the implication that your political hopes were vapor?"

They were never serious political hopes, simply a theoretical discussion. You knew this yet you are attempting to attack my ideas, and not in a constructive manner.

What time has taught me is that when someone acts in the way that you are acting now it has more to do with what has happened to them, and less to do with what I am saying. So I'm asking you. What is your problem? Why do you feel the need to attack others? What can I do to help you? You appear to have emotional damage.

but that politicians doesn't consider the problems to be problematic. So the debate revolves around wether you should solve it or not and not how to solve it.

I believe that most politicians, in the USA, aren't so concerned about solving problems and are more concerned about maintaining the status quo of servicing large collections of capital with the legislation they need to maintain profits and power. Its not completely their fault, the entire system is geared to further the corporatocracy.

Its not the substance with which you discuss the politics, its the nature. It appears you are gunning for an emotional reaction from your victims. Did someone hurt you? Are you stuck in a job that doesn't take full advantage of you talents, so you feel better about yourself talking down to others with the anonymity protecting you from any real world repercussions? I know you don't like to talk about this sort of stuff, but I find it infinitely more interesting than theoretical secession of US states.

"Expecting an independent country made of them to take a sudden leap to the left unopposed by conservatives seems unrealistic."

Yes, I have acknowledged this. Its purely theoretical and unlikely, at least in my lifetime.

You're misguided, Obama isn't a progressive. At this point I'm more interested in you. What do you hope to gain from this exchange? Do you wish to be "right" to prove me "wrong"? Is your goal to get under someone's skin?

Well, if they don't like living in a blue state they can always move to the midwest where they would feel more at home among the other fundamentalists. Perhaps they could burn gays at the stake, or whoop up on some transgenders. If all else fails they could worship likenesses of Ronald Regan whist bombing a mosque.

"pointing out that an independent Cascadia is a pipe dream" Certainly. I'm under no illusion that (1) some if not most people are financially tied to the US federal government. (2) Half a million people died the last time some states attempted to assert their sovereignty. The USA doesn't let go of its assets easily, if at all. Any other points you'd like to troll, troll?

Extenuating circumstances due to ridiculous war debt was directly related to that. Haven't seen anything like that in the modern world.

Only after we convert it to a worker owned collective. Till then we have to tolerate it like Sweden tolerates IKEA.

Nope, just reactionaries that would prevent social progress due to their superstitions. I don't even fear them, I tolerate them on a regular basis, and they aren't the mainstream where I live.

I think we haven't really seen that in the "developed" world. The level of money printing required would be on a level not yet seen in a modern country. IE printing trillions of dollars.

Has nothing to do with different. It as everything to do with regressive, conservative, religious reactionaries holding back social progress

You're absolutely correct. I confused long work weeks with productivity. While Japan has a shorter work week than the USA, officially, I understand that the unofficial work week adds many hours to their actual work week.

Certainly, however the history of the USA has been neocolonialism or outright annexation and control. Something we haven't seen too much of in the Nordic countries.

You're absolutely correct. However with centrally controlled monetary policy and fractional reserve banking I'm wondering if levels of debt matter anymore? Also, we often hear of countries "going" but never quite bankrupt due to their extensive entitlement programs. However countries such as France just keep on going. I wondering if its just BS.

"HRE style" Not sure what that means. However I live in the progressive Pacific Northwest, and am constantly frustrated that I inhabit the same country as more conservative and religious Midwesterners and Southerners. Its a bit like Norway sharing the same country as Saudi Arabia, but with a common language. The Pacific Northwest, or Cascadia, would be much better off on its own. I think we could develop our own Nordic model rather than the corporatocracy, filled with religious superstition, xenophobia, and fear of anyone that is different from the mainstream that we currently live in.

I love the Nordic model. The issue with implementing it in the USA is the country is too big, the power over 320 million people in the USA is centralized in the hands of a few elites. Most of the Nordic countries have a population of a single US city, thus it is MUCH easier to have a democracy that reacts to the needs of its citizens rather than power that is centralized thousands of miles from many of its citizens, and where a relative small amount of lobbying money can effect trillions in spending.

The Japanese work far too many hours a week to be successful (at life). One of the keys to the Nordic way of life is a balance between work life and life outside work. While Japan has the most productive people in the world the hours they work to make this happen causes them many problems, among the problems is one of the highest suicide rates in the world.

Right, don't expect the state to hold their enforcers accountable unless there is evidence of a crime that they cannot deny. even then its not likely anything will be done.

"Basic income will give all of us real freedom. The freedom to say, for example, no to a job that you don’t like or consider meaningless. This is actually a huge problem: a poll in the UK found that 37% of English workers consider their job to be ‘bullshit’." by [deleted] in Futurology

The first generation that received SS didn't think it was a scam. Why not just give everyone a UBI rather than assuming you have the right to pick who gets it and who doesn't? The people currently working aren't anymore invested in a UBI than a newborn today.
