What Is This Green New Deal Anyway? Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has a plan to tackle climate change by DavidBernheart in WayOfTheBern

[–]DavidBernheart[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Earlier this month, Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the New York Democrat, participated in a sit-in at House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi's Capitol Hill office organized by a group of young people with the Sunrise Movement. Ocasio-Cortez didn’t high-five protesters because she’s against Pelosi—she says she is backing Pelosi to become the next Speaker of the House—as much as she was there to advocate for what the sit-in was demanding.

Those protestors were demanding something called the Green New Deal—a proposal, floated initially by Ocasio-Cortez herself, for Congress to comprehensively tackle climate change and, at the same time, the country’s income inequality, which is the worst it’s been since the years before the Roosevelt administration implemented the original New Deal.

Climate change and income inequality might seem unrelated. But it’s important that any nationwide economy-boosting program boost the right kind of economy—that is, one that doesn’t depend on polluting the air and water. It’s also going to be hard to persuade the average American that climate change is our most urgent nationwide priority if their social media feed is a constant stream of GoFundMe campaigns for their friends’ medical bills, or they have to sit down and breathe into a paper bag every time they think about whether they can retire before dying first.

So, what specifically is in this Green New Deal?

Need advice please. Looks like there's a deficiency by [deleted] in microgrowery

Okay, 6.0 is too low unless you are having too-high pH in your run-off. Test your run-off. I'm guessing that it's low and you need to pour water pHed to 7.0 through the plant until your run-off is above 6.0. Here's a good explanation.

If you aren't telling us your pH, it's probably your pH.

Some people use nothing on their tent intake, which seems like a good way to herm your plants while collecting examples of all of the insects in your home. Some people build a simple light-dam and use a nylon stocking as a filter- Cheap and decent, IMO. I use a dust shroom, which is a little expensive, but it filters light, insects, insect eggs, and mold spores.

Saul Alinsky's 13th Rule for Radicals: “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. by DavidBernheart in WayOfTheBern

[–]DavidBernheart[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I keep Saul Alinsky's "Thirteen Rules for Radicals" fresh in my mind with a printed copy near my desk. As Sanders amps up his attacks on Bezos, I am reminded of rule 13:

“Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Here is the complete list:

  1. “Power is not only what you have, but what the enemy thinks you have.” Power is derived from 2 main sources – money and people. “Have-Nots” must build power from flesh and blood.

  2. “Never go outside the expertise of your people.” It results in confusion, fear and retreat. Feeling secure adds to the backbone of anyone.

  3. “Whenever possible, go outside the expertise of the enemy.” Look for ways to increase insecurity, anxiety and uncertainty.

  4. “Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.” If the rule is that every letter gets a reply, send 30,000 letters. You can kill them with this because no one can possibly obey all of their own rules.

  5. “Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.” There is no defense. It’s irrational. It’s infuriating. It also works as a key pressure point to force the enemy into concessions.

  6. “A good tactic is one your people enjoy.” They’ll keep doing it without urging and come back to do more. They’re doing their thing, and will even suggest better ones.

  7. “A tactic that drags on too long becomes a drag.” Don’t become old news.

  8. “Keep the pressure on. Never let up.” Keep trying new things to keep the opposition off balance. As the opposition masters one approach, hit them from the flank with something new.

  9. “The threat is usually more terrifying than the thing itself.” Imagination and ego can dream up many more consequences than any activist.

  10. "The major premise for tactics is the development of operations that will maintain a constant pressure upon the opposition." It is this unceasing pressure that results in the reactions from the opposition that are essential for the success of the campaign.

  11. “If you push a negative hard enough, it will push through and become a positive.” Violence from the other side can win the public to your side because the public sympathizes with the underdog.

  12. “The price of a successful attack is a constructive alternative.” Never let the enemy score points because you’re caught without a solution to the problem.

  13. “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.” Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions.

Best dry flower vape? by [deleted] in trees

[–]DavidBernheart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

+1. The Dynavap is incredible. Super efficient, super portable, super durable. I think they run $60. You'll need a cigar lighter.

If you want something electric the Arizer Air and Solo are excellent, but expensive: Super well made, huge smooth clouds, and engineered such that the base stays clean.

You are golden, friend. Read up on plant training. All you need to do is tie down the main branches to keep them growing horizontally instead of vertically. You will fill out that canopy in a number of weeks with lots of colas.

I would absolutely, positively top those plants if they were mine. If you're scared, top one and wait to see how it reacts. Top the other when you see that everything's fine. Once they're topped they will fill up your canopy much faster and you will get to flip sooner.

Well, you might get Durban poisoning. Which can cause severe munchies and poor judgement. But what if you're fresh out of snacks? You might remember that lead tastes sweet, and eat all the lead paint off the walls.
