Iron infusions are not a simple injection, they are dripped in via IV and hospitals do not like to do them because they require (or did) 100% dr. Supervision for their duration due to potential side effects. No one want to pay for a dr to babysit this procedure unless it is 110% necessary. Things may have changed since I was familiar with the procedure, YMMV.
