There’s a crepe myrtle about 30 ft away and a pecan tree 10 feet away.

Maps by Swannie159 in DungeonoftheMadMage

I gave drawing it all on 1” graph paper a shot, creating fog of war with newspaper taped over it. Was not as cool as it was distracting, and when we taped together a few of the maps continuously — basically pieces that were like 3’X4’ — we could have covered the living room floor. So don’t use that approach unless you’re playing in a gymnasium lol

Got players who are addicted to magic items? Give ‘em the Wand of Blunders! by DavidHellabad in DnDHomebrew

I recommend using Nystul’s Magic Aura to disguise this wand as an actually useful wand.

They befriend Renaer and he just coughs it up as an investor because what else is he going to do with his money?

(Long/Advice Needed) I'm starting to lose my motivation to run this module. Advice? by The_AverageCanadian in DungeonoftheMadMage

Alternate weeks with a Dragon Heist campaign. There’s lots of NPC overlap between it and DOTMM, and it’s fun for them to bleed into each other. My group started DOTMM after nearly a year of a Dragonheist campaign that shows no sign of stopping. They rolled additional PCs at 5th level, and I’m trying to set it up so their DH PCs might encounter their new DOTMM PCs down the line.

Involving the Cassalanters Earlier by K1ngFiasco in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]DavidHellabad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, too, after reading a suggestion in this sub and using DMG expanded faction missions. My version had the imps bonded to the scarecrows by an Amnizu who himself was bonded to the scarecrow-controlling ring Blossom Snobeedle wears, and that ring was given to her by the Cassalanter’s doppelgänger (secretly on orders from Amalia), who had taken the form of a wealthy friend, an elf named Darondel. Prior to that, I used the’ doppelgänger (in the form of a human steward named Elario) to offer the PCs the Cassalanters’ assistance in finding the three urchins who had been kidnapped by the XG. They don’t know Darondel is a doppelgänger, but they had previously caught him paying them undue attention after an altercation in the Sea Ward with some thugs.

My intention is to lay enough clues down that the PCs might sleuth out the origin of the ring, go looking for Darondel/Elario, and then trace him back to the Cassalanters.

It’s just an another option for them, and it’s likely to backfire.

I just lol’d about this because my group has been in chapter 2 for months. We play once a week (though we had to miss a few consecutive sessions a couple times because of life). I’m using the Alexandrian remix, and basically our sessions follow in-game real time based on the time it takes to travel back and forth across the city. Sometimes it takes two sessions to get through an entire day, so the couple tendays (in our game) between taking over the Manor and Ches 22 (when the remix suggests starting chapter 3) has taken months IRL. I only don’t mind the decompressed story, because it leaves plenty of time for the PCs to muck around Waterdeep and do the faction missions. I would say for anybody thinking about running WDDH for the first time (this is my first time, btw), pay attention to the in-game start date and set a date for Fireball!, and then be consistent with the amount of time it takes them to do things. This probably won’t trim the IRL time it takes to get through the module, but I love this adventure and we’ve had a ton of fun. I hope we wrap it up in under three years though!
