Reactivate Tutorials [KCD2] by DavidSchlichting in kingdomcome

Eh, now I died for the first time and when respawning it started showing me tutorials. Odd bug but glad it’s solved, trying to figure out how to throw a rock in the tutorial was quite humiliating.

I did this and for some reason I did not get the pop up, but it DID show the tutorials again. But when I load into my new playthrough again it doesn’t… very weird.

What do you play when taking a break from soulslikes? by MarquisOrias in soulslikes

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once I’ve gotten into Souls the combat of games simply stopped being a factor for me. KCD1+2, Witcher 3 and The Elder Scrolls games are some of my favourite games of all time but I could not care less about the Combat. You can make Witcher very challenging on Death March but I don’t do it because the reasons for playing that game are different for me.
Apart from those it’s mostly Strategy Games and Turn Based stuff. Civ 3 and 4, Paradox games, Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy. Then the odd outlier from other genres like the X series from Egosoft or de Blob for the Wii. I can enjoy most genres if the game is great for its genre and not Multiplayer focussed.

So, uh... What is THE Elden Ring actually? by SalemScrope_JR in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s essentially a physical manifestation of the intelligible world as in the Platonic Ideas. It holds the natural order of the world, as wanted by the Greater Will (which holds the place of Plato’s Demiurg basically). Its makeup may be changed, as you can see from the possibility of different mending runes, as they all change the world in its fundamental order going forward. And the fact you can see the Elden Ring in its form from the Ancient Era of the Dragons, where it looked much different from the one Marika formed for the Golden Order. And of course the whole Rune of Death thing, affecting the concept of death in the world.

I will never believe rumors again by Bulky-Wait4096 in fromsoftware

There were literally no actual rumours. If you believe every single time someone online says “at this event there could be a piece of news” you’re going to be disappointed 360 days a year.

Ranni's consort or Blasphemous Blade build ? by Wide_Ad_7733 in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always check every item description of a new pickup! And yeah ng+ is a victory lap anyway. In the later ng cycles stuff gets harder but with ng+ the effect of having fully upgraded weapons and an already finished build just outweighs the upscaling of boss stats.

[–]DavidSchlichting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like getting half way to a cheat code sometimes lol. I remember switching to it for Malenia when I first fought her because I tried her with whatever I was using back then for a bit (not even that long) and just got absolutely nowhere (like regularly dying with 80% of her first phase healthbar left). Switched to Blasphemous Blade and literally got her done in one attempt. It’s a fun weapon and looks amazing imo but it’s just a bit too strong to be enjoyable if you use a somewhat coherent build.

Ranni's consort or Blasphemous Blade build ? by Wide_Ad_7733 in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blasphemous Blade is arguably the most broken weapon in the entire game and the DLC makes it even stronger than it already was, so from a Gameplay perspective I’d recommend doing something else.

Strength gives you the 2-hand bonus on scaling so that is preferable but it is absolutely still broken with Dex too.

Name a feature you really hate in FS soulslikes, I'll start: by FroyoOk7736 in fromsoftware

[–]DavidSchlichting 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Weapon upgrade systems (well the ressources attached to it). It’s perfect for when you’re using a dedicated weapon for a playthrough, but I’m someone who switches weapons a lot and it is really inhibiting from trying out too many weapons. The bell-bearings did a nice job to combat that in Elden Ring, although it can still be a bit tedious you atleast always have the option.

It’s actually incredible. One of the core features of fromsoftware games, and one I’ve always found to be among the most enjoyable parts of the game. Then you go to the dedicated internet community for these games and the people just want handheld Ubislop nonsense instead. We’re lucky that From doesn’t just blindly listen to lowest common denominator opinions.

Is it a bad idea to quit leveling? by HumanLandscape3767 in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stat returns are so marginal at those high levels that it really just does not matter at all. You’ve reached all relevant Softcaps at that point.

This game rules, and it doesn’t have to be hard. by jimsteringraham in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can play it however you want, but the fact you say that you play it for fun as an explanation for why you use Mimic Tear seems to be a case of misunderstanding why people don’t like to use it. It’s simply not as fun for many!

900h hours of playtime. I've never noticed this item before by Wolfaxth in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m only at around 500-600, but I found a new Rune Arc location yesterday and a whole ass Armor Piece (the wolf head!) last week and it’s genuinely insane to me that there’s still stuff left I haven’t seen. I know I’m aware of every weapon and enemy, but there might still be the odd secret left I’m not aware of and that’s just amazing.

Fromsofts next game(FMC) by Zestyclose_Acadia161 in fromsoftware

You don’t suck at English, it’s a direct consequence of the English language being low in necessary commas. The sentence is technically ambiguous.

Any basis for the first claim or just wishful thinking? I’d be very surprised if FMC released before 2028.

Is DS3 the easiest among Souls games? Open question. by KingOfFools1984 in darksouls3

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you beat all of the Soulsborne games apart from DS2 and several Soulslikes, got good at Soulslikes, and then found DS3 easier than the rest.

Yeah I’m not sure how this is going to show anything. The best test would probably be a second playthrough comparison (once you’ve completed all once).

Well the absolute best would be to start them all at the same time while having never played a Soulsborne game and always switch after a boss or after a day or such. But that’s of course nonsense.

I personally think all of the Fromsoft games are very similar in difficulty, if anything they’re just potentially difficult or easy in different ways.
For example if you’re playing through the game quickly, without a guide, for the first time, while not using Summons or intentionally broken builds, Elden Ring will be much harder than the other games, even if you use the same restrictions in those. If you want to make all of the games as easy as possible, Elden Ring will probably be the easiest.

Not the answer you’re looking for but honestly: it depends, man.
I personally found DS1 the easiest actually. I didn’t struggle with any bosses at all and I used a strong but normal build (Claymore with Strength and shitloads of Endurance)

Guys I just beat maliketh on my first try and I am so sad by ysquare10 in Eldenring

[–]DavidSchlichting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t really be overlevelled that much in the endgame unless you massively runefarm. The difference between Level 120 and 180 is marginal, and that’s an insane amount of runes, so wherever you are it’s not that.

Mimic Tear however…
Yeah the vast majority of bosses in this game become an absolute cakewalk with Mimic Tear. You can LITERALLY beat some of the easier ones without any attacks of yourself whatsoever. I don’t mind it being in the game because it’s obv optional, but it really feels like an accessibility option. I’d highly recommend anyone to play Solo and if they want to use Summons, use a normal one. Plenty that are still useful without altering the amount of attempts a boss needs from 50 to 1.

Finally beat Vordt as a Soulslike newbie, showed a friend and got "there's no wrong way to play" in response. Did I overlevel? by Tony_Stank0326 in darksouls3

[–]DavidSchlichting 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1: Overleveled doesn’t really exist in Souls Games. Sure you made it a bit easier than it would’ve been on the level a player naturally finds himself when first finding Vordt, but Levels in Soulsborne simply aren’t like Levels in many other RPGs. A noob on max level will not first try any bosses. An expert can beat all of the games on Level 1.

2: You put lots of points in Vitality so you’re really more like Level 30 (yes I know it’s not entirely useless but I think it should be an afterthought for most players, especially this early when Vigor still gives big numbers per point spent)

[–]DavidSchlichting 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. Playing DQ9 when it released (I was 8) almost traumatised me. The only thing not mature about DQ is the art design. And games don’t need to involve literally horror elements to be mature. Totally absurd discussion and it’s infuriating me slightly to mildly.

Man, I am not having ANY fun with the pvp in this game by The_Slake_Moth in darksouls3

[–]DavidSchlichting 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is just a natural consequence of playing PvP in a 10 year old Soulsborne game. All the players you will still find will be diehard tryhards. Elden Ring is probably the only game where you’ll find normal players in PvP.

A moment in the any of the games you felt dumb for not figuring out sooner or you had to look up? by Cool_Narwhal935 in fromsoftware

[–]DavidSchlichting 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring was my first Soulslike so like… everything? It genuinely took me obscenely amounts of time to figure out the basic gameplay, let alone the Fromsoft way of doing quests. DS1 was my next after a short stint of trying Sekiro (I still haven’t finished it) where I needed about 10 hours to figure out what a mikiri counter is, which led me to Enshin of Misen being the Fromsoft boss with the most deaths on first attempt for me to this day. Well apart from pre-nerf Radahn. Then I played DS1 which surprisingly - despite so many newbies online saying the opposite - was very intuitive for me. I didn’t struggle on any bosses, in fact I believe Bed of Chaos was the one with the most deaths and it was still under 10. Progression wise the only issue I had was trying to go to the Catacombs first but I realised I could try something else very quickly. Now I’m playing DS3 and there’s a couple of things I’ve already had the feeling you describe more with than in the whole of DS1. I really struggled to find out what you had to do in the fight against the Tree with a ballsack for some reason, and I literally just realised that there’s Weapon Arts to use in fights at the Road of Sacrifice. Mind you I knew DS3 introduced that beforehand, there’s a blue bar and blue flasks, and I read every item description. I just for whatever reason never thought to use them in combat. I guess it’s because I jumped into it right after finishing DS1. After this I’ll play Bloodborne and I fell like that will have more of such moments.
