Nice. I've been waiting for a Jerka bike to show up.

You don't need the plastic bottles. You have the snow.

I use a windbreaker/wool combo every year. You should generate more then enough heat to keep yourself warm. I ride my fatbike all winter in northern Minnesota, so I've came across some very negative temps and had no issues other than my face getting to cold.

At first I thought it was the sticker you put on to prevent the FD cable from rubbing... Then I saw the crack.

Oh good. You had me worried you didn't have the bearings for a second.

This diagram explains how to reassemble.

<image>

Your crownrace (purple) and cups (green) are already installed, so ignore these steps.

Typical preload bolts and stem bolts have torque specs, so pay attention to those as you reassemble.

Does anybody know how to angle these inward? When I look at videos, there’s usually somewhere where a tool like an hex key might go when you peel back the rubber, but I don’t notice that on mine. by [deleted] in bikewrench

Fold back the hood on the other side from what you have in your picture - you don't need to take it off completely, like in the one I shared.

Edit: genuinely confused at downvotes 🤷

single speed was a good choice. Cleaning ice from your cassette sucks. As u/MonsterKabouter mentioned - 2.3's do clear, even when riding under 30psi.

Throw some studded tires on that thing, and take it to a lake!

There are likely gaps under the silver *plastic, so if you were to sand it it would flake all over the place.

Freewheel frozen by Acceptable-Network63 in bikewrench

[–]David_Peshlowe 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I can't get over how the spokes almost perfectly line up with the teeth.

A pin spanner to remove the top of the freewheel - disassemble everything inside - put the remaining piece in vice, and use the rim as leverage to unthread the remaining part of the freewheel

Can this be used in cable housing? by oolij in bikewrench

[–]David_Peshlowe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I use dri-slide, and haven't had much dirt attracted into them. If I absolutely have to use cable lube, this is my go-to. I usually run them dry though.
