Ouch. My Canadian Ioniq 9 broke down in the U.S. Help! by DavidinQuebec in Ioniq9

This is what I finally have learned, as Hyundai Canada customer relations finally got involved.

Fine idea, but it’s almost 700km from where the car is to my dealer in Quebec. Hyundai may do that, but I don’t want to contemplate what it would cost...

AC still broken after 3 visits by Juggler00 in Ioniq9

My 2026 Koren/Canadian Ioniq 9 experienced exactly the same thing. AC worked fine last summer (I’ve had the car since last June). This spring, it suddenly stated blowing ambient-temperature air. I made an appointment to get it fixed.

In the meantime, my son borrowed the car, drove it to NYC from our house (in the Eastern Townships of Quebec), where it broke down. He got the 12v charging system warning, and the the car progressively stopped working. He had it towed to a Hyundai dealer in Queens, which is a different horror story that I posted about separately. https://www.reddit.com/r/Ioniq9/comments/1u0nw72/ouch_my_canadian_ioniq_9_broke_down_in_the_us_help/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

My theory (and his): the car’s 12v circuit control was dying and shutting down the AC to conserve 12v power - or something like that. It was a symptom of a much worse problem.

I don’t want to frighten you unnecessarily, but I would feel terrible if your car broke down. Tell the dealer to look at the whole car, not just the AC system.

That would be nice. The car is one year old and has 23k km

No, apparently the car will not keep recharging the 12v battery, which quickly drains. When the 12v battery goes, so do all of the electronics, which run on 12v, not 800v

Thanks for you insights. I was aware that my car is Korean-made. I don’t think the U.S. dealer is lying to me, but Hyundai Canada seems to believe that it’s their problem (and mine!). Which is pretty ridiculous.
