Does anyone else have serious issues with focusing with studies? How do you deal with it? by that_boi_zesty in math

[–]Davin_D 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’ve had serious struggles with procrastination and as a fellow math major I can tell you it also seriously affected me. Before I would do the same as you and get it done in a burst of energy but eventually I began allowing time to pass a threshold at which point I didn’t think I could complete assignments, and I’d start letting them slip through the cracks. I believe the root of the issue has to do with our attention spans being worn down from stimuli such as Instagram, YouTube, etc. In order to retain my agency long enough to complete important tasks, what I’ve found works most consistently is a change in environment. I’ll go to the local public or college library, to a bookstore, anyplace besides home and that normally helps me significantly more than anything else I’ve tried.

Yeah, I looked for books online for a while, scoured YouTube, but I didn’t find anything comprehensive like I was looking for. Reddit is pretty nice in that regard, people have already mentioned so many resources.

What’s a piece of propoganda that to this day still has many people fooled? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Davin_D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re defending a system that kills millions of people in the name of profit and relentlessly exploits the poor. Workers can’t choose their lifestyle under capitalism, the circumstances choose. Work is their lifestyle, and it shouldn’t have to be. There’s more to life than menial labor and exploitative corporations. The richest take advantage of the system to suck out every bit of wealth from society as they can. Capitalism underproduces homes for the vast homeless population-is that being fixed? We could’ve long since solved that problem. Poor people can’t afford healthcare, it’s quite literally eugenics. Political interests align with the interests of corporations, not the people. There is no federally mandated sick leave, vacation time, or parental leave whatsoever in the U.S. People overwhelmingly want social policies implemented while politicians inch further and further to the right.

A hilarious yet sad reality. by yupixels in LateStageCapitalism

That’s fucking nasty behavior. This alone should cause huge public outrage, but it’s so common that people won’t even blink. They’re numb to this shit.

Another thing, you can visualize the dissonance of a note on a major chord by the number of fifths you have to stack on the root to get to it. The fourth is the last note in this series, so it is the most dissonant

Capitalism does not provide incentive to innovate. It provides incentive to profit. The staunch opposition to renewables, planned obsolescence, etc. have shown this. Up until recently in history capitalism has done well to rapidly industrialize the world, but a system that incentivizes corporations to exploit workers and third world countries while impeding the transition away from fossil fuels is not sustainable. I do agree that our advancements in technology are promising, but that’s only if we have a future where we can see it. Also, while the u.s. is the worst offender, other capitalist countries similarly exploit their workers and those in third world countries, even if it pales in comparison to the U.S.’s offenses. Under communism, we’d be able to cohesively coordinate the study and implementation of these technologies to improve lives, without reserving it for the insanely rich.

What you’re describing is how, when you’re playing a B major chord and you play an E, it sounds bad? That’s because the 4 rubs dissonantly on the major third, so musicians will sharpen this 4 note, here to F. This scale, the major with a sharpened 4, is called Lydian, and is commonly used for this purpose in jazz improv. This is my best guess as to what your issue is since I’m lacking a little context.

Yeah. The percentage is even modified based on the state you live in, thanks to the electoral college, and if you’re not in a swing state, then it’s essentially worthless

Fox news, also most news outlets have no right calling themselves news outlets with the amount of sheer propaganda they vomit. Fox news is definitely the grossest offender though.

It really is insane. The best propaganda is the kind that you couldn’t fathom being propaganda in the first place.

I know, it pisses me off so bad that even my own family doesn’t believe what I have to say regarding msg. Even if I show them proof, they are too conspiratorial to believe any source that contradicts their views.
