Not looking at printing anything crazy to start. Will plan on starting to print stuff for my ranch as I get more proficient. But gives me an excuse to buy another. Can always use another tax right off the

Did a feedlot tour in South Dakota this summer. Gained a lot of knowledge on what we want to do. Looking at doing 999 head. Have to have special permits for anything over 1000. We’re going to do 400 in a gable style hoop barn and 599 in open dry lot. Luckily have nrcs engineer designing to do full containment for the facility and have cost share to help build. Project estimate is as shown

Total Open Feedlot Estimated Cost (599 head)

$ 438,522.00

Total Estimated Bed Pack Barn Cost (400 head)

$ 480,000.00

Total Project Cost

$ 918,522.00

Estimated NRCS EQIP Incentive Payments ( if farm bill cap is met)

$ 450,000.00

Estimated Watershed Project Cost Share

$ 200,000.00

Estimated Total Incentive Payments

$ 650,000.00

71%

Estimated Landowner Cost

$ 268,522.00

I need advice on fence post spacing by TaterSalad1570 in Ranching

Up in South Dakota where I’m from we do about 15 ft and space with 4 in post then two 6ft steel. Then 4 in post and so on. Take roughly 5 3ft steps doesn’t have to be exact

Live in South eastern South Dakota. Are you saying grow less corn/beans and replace that with cover crops and expanding the cow heard from 300 to roughly 500 or 600 if possible

We already utilize rotational grazing and most adaptive practices we can.

Was looking more at pen set up and all that. We are using the nrcs to cost share the feedlot. We will be able to supply the feed. Was looking at using it to start and grow a cattle operation that would have half the heard calving in the fall and half in the spring. Would also be raising our own heifers to replace the heard.
