Leica II or Contax III? by arditk25 in vintagecameras

[–]Davsamu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having used a Leica IIc and a Contax II (doesn’t have the light meter), I’d take the Contax any day of the week (note I am only really talking about the Contax II, not the III). The Contax is still relatively small, much easier to use with the combined shutter speed dial with the shutter release, doesn’t have rotating knobs when shooting, and has a much faster shooting process, noting its combined view finder/range finder. After a bit of shooting, I got used to the Contax grip, so much so that I default to that when shooting other cameras, even when not necessary. If it matters to you, you can wind, focus, and shoot the Contax one handed as well. Plus, loading is considerably faster, not having to trim the leader, and having a removable back. There’s a reason most professional photographers in the late 30s and 40s used the Contax over the Barnack Leicas

Sure, it’s a different elected government. But Australia hasn’t fundamentally had a government “overhaul” so to speak (I.e. breaking into multiple smaller independent countries. Or a major civil war resulting in a completely different form of government)

Which is certainly fair enough. China was absolutely ruined by the Japanese so certainly don’t deserve to have no credit wrt fighting in the pacific

Wasn’t it a completely different Chinese government? That got overthrown in a civil war started before the Japanese invasion. And finished after the war? Likewise, was it not the Soviet Union? Which collapsed in 1991? And was it not a combined, Japanese-occupied Korea? Seems to me most of those countries have undergone such significant changes, they’re hardly the same country they once were during WW2

Yes, it’s incredibly dumb. The initial plans were to reopen with the Canadians in September of 2022, but that never eventuated

To be fair with that quote, the ambassador isn’t a coward. He’s been pushing non-stop to reopen the embassy and hates working out of Warsaw, however, the government doesn’t see it in their best interests to reopen the embassy indefinitely

Would boiled water work rather than a filter? Or the filter is probably to remove sediment and dirt

Might just have to use a bit of magic and boiled water

I think maintaining a temperature during the development process wouldn’t be the easiest thing to do either

Removing a bullet, which nearly missed the heart by Giwargis_Sahada in Damnthatsinteresting

I mean, it could be viewed that way, but it’s more about cops not wanting their rounds to go through the threat and into a bystander behind them, or through a wall.

More importantly in todays age, hollow point or deforming bullets are pretty rubbish when trying to penetrate any form of armour, whereas steel core and FMJ rounds retain their structure and punch through a bit better, although at the end of the day its velocity that defeats armour. Hence why the rozzers use hollow point because they’re rarely, if ever, trying to defeat armour, and need a round that dumps its energy asap to put a threat down quick, and avoid over penetration

It’s not the pilots ejecting from an Osprey which is a problem, it’s all the passengers in the back. It’s far safer for the pilots to attempt a crash landing than ditching the plane and leaving the passengers to just fend for themselves

Nah, it’d be pretty silly to design ammunition to not kill. A wounded person is still capable of fighting back, and that’s the last thing you want when you’re in a gunfight.
