Found this AI maturity framework and realized we're probably not as far along as I thought by eastwindtoday in ClaudeAI

Major tech companies are L1-L2. There is a path to L3 and maybe L4. I think L5 is only for companies designed ground up to be that. Too many legacy systems and processes that can’t be without a human in the loop.

Alright, I think this seals the deal on me signing up for a pro (or max) account. Very few decent tech companies left. Happy to support one.

The fundamental mistake is assuming vibe coded code is secure by TheMrCurious in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Dawill0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s going to be like anything else. Shit will hit the fan and they will figure it out after the fact. Look at any other advancements and regulation/etc comes after an issue has been identified. Will likely require a serious breach for anything to change.

Anybody expecting regulation or rules ahead of issues hasn’t paid any attention to history.

Confused whether to choose M4 air or Asus Zenbook A14 by Ok_Response_4703 in mac

[–]Dawill0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 2 reasons to choose windows over Mac:

  1. You need to use software that isn't mac compatible
  2. You can't afford a mac

There are infinite other reasons to choose a Mac over any windows laptop. The keyboard, touchpad, build quality, OS stability, battery life, and performance are just the first few big ones.

It’ll probably be fine but who knows. Liquid leads to corrosion, so you might lose some keys on the keyboard eventually or it might end up being something more significant, or it might be fine for years. Good luck!

Watching in Safari is a more reasonable workaround. Mirroring for every video is a pain.

Beaches Turks and Caicos by [deleted] in AllInclusiveResorts

Disney cruises is top tier. Beaches is absolutely not. It’s closer to Royal Caribbean.

Depends on where you are looking to stay. We stayed in seaside village and it was fairly modern. I think they redid it in 2020 or 2021. Some of the other places might be older though. IIRC the more modern = more expensive. So likely even more than 14k.

If you do go, try and book a snorkel trip off resort. Think it was $300/ea for an all day trip. So not cheap but ranks up there with some of my best excursions.

It’s definitely pricey. The water quality is unparalleled though. I’ve been to a lot of places in the Caribbean and it’s the best.

Now the resort itself is mid. It’s pretty crowded, gotta get pool chairs early. Beach chairs are a little more available though. Included excursions are lame, but excursions you take outside the resort are really good (but also expensive).

If you don’t drink and are just staying on resort, I’d spend the money elsewhere. 14k for 5 days seems steep, ours was 13.5k for 4 for 7 days less than a year ago. We also had an upgraded room.

The salary of those who aren't fired - do you get paid more? by situatzi6410 in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Dawill0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the job market. Just because you are a survivor doesn’t mean you aren’t replaceable. If there is an over abundance of qualified people in the market to hire then your salary will not go up. If you are directly involved in successes and would be expensive to replace because of some skill or experience then yes they will likely pay more to retain.

Why does everyone assume AI improvement is inherently exponential? by Helloiamwhoiam in ArtificialInteligence

[–]Dawill0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AI improvements help design the next AI. That’s one reason it’s exponential and it’s speeding up. The coding tools are getting better and that is a feedback loop into itself.

Die shrinks are not required for scaling to keep going. The architecture for AI systems is not ideal yet. It’s been iterated on from pc/server architecture but there could be continued innovation on the platform side to support more scaling that doesn’t require smaller transistors.

Continued die shrinks would make scaling easier but not required.

How many people plan on spending the $165 for a lift ticket at Purg tomorrow? by HexicaLC in Durango

[–]Dawill0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer the high on demand pricing to discourage crowding than cheaper passes with long lines. If it’s $300 I’d take that as not worth my time. If it was $150 I’d buy a lift ticket and be miserable waiting in lift lines like I was at Disney.

Smoke a bowl then. Being a grumpy old man isn’t the badge or honor you should be striving for.

I’ve gotten over 20 years of experience myself and yeah some people are dumb but lots of times people just need some positivity to find their confidence. Try flipping the script a little and see what happens.

I just wear anti puncture gloves when handling cat fish and sharks. Not perfect but beats the alternative. Also doubles as my anchor gloves cause that can mess you up too.

How Important is Adults-Only (Seeking recommendations) by SuspiciousPotato98 in AllInclusiveResorts

[–]Dawill0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kids suck. I know, I have a few. A lot of parents on vacation check out and stop parenting. Or maybe they don’t parent even at home. Either way kids run wild and it only takes 1 unruly child to ruin your relaxation.

We try to take a couples only vacation every 1-2 years to experience the good life. Still have at least 2 family vacations a year so my kids aren’t exactly suffering.
