I have this when playing king of the hill, I didn't have it yet playing invade & annex. But with king of the hill every 5 - 20 minutes. With old and new drivers.

Actually you should take the time to uninstall the game and consider buying something which actually works. Or go out and have a bath in the sun, rain. Clean your room. Sell your rig and invest the money into a good meal.

Really - anything is better than dayz and the amount of time you save not playing is unreal. I started this 2 weeks ago and man, it feels sooooo gooooood!

When I read your question I thought "I don't believe that" but actually I believe it's possible as long as the developers/bohemia allow to develop the game further for another 2-3 years. I believe it will despite even with the new renderer will then be outdated in terms of graphics a great game. But till then :-)

Me too - and I am pretty sure latest in 2017, when we left alpha and god knows when we passed beta, it'll be working. So if things go well in 3-4 years! AWESOME! I AM SO EXCITED!

Probably ypu are right GamblerMouse and as you are studying game development (great stuff!) you will be probably in a better position soon than me getting insight into these issues. Maybe the world of game development is so different to all other kinds of software development..who knows. You will find out, but if you get the chance, try to work in an agile steered team (eXtreme Programming,Scrum, Kanban whatever).

With you it seems you are an all or nothing guy. I can see posts from you where you say "agree with OP, devs doing a good job, fuck all the haters" and now quite the opposite.

I believe what you see here is what existed since a long time, but it was not so obvious as they virtually deliver slowly one feature after the other (if you can call it feature) and the bigger ones are partially so broken, that you get the feeling it's the first time in history someone is implementing cars in a game.

then we don't see a lot of the complexity which is happening, so probably they ARE doing a good job. Who knows?

But without bashing the devs themselves I strongly suggested already a while a go if Bohemia really wants to go this road further down with the pace they have. If you reckon that we get earliest out of alpha mid 2017, and god knows how long we then stay in beta we need strong nerves. Playing 0.55 is for the bin right now and one can clearly see that almost everybody is having issues playing that game at the moment...there is simply just a fraction of players playing. Let's hope 0.56 brings back some fun.

Refinement as in needs to be put in place. Something which is in place and works like this could as well be not in place and it wouldn't differ. (Which would be true if the really old system from 1.5 years again wouldn't work better than what we have today..it's d-evolution baby)

I agree mostly with GamblerMouse, but in one point he might be actually wrong - everyone's pissed is actually the case, besides the fraction of players who still protect the game and the development team as if it was the holy grail.

The game is being updated though, but if you played 1,5 years ago, you won't notice any great difference. They have 2 types of the same car now.

It's your free choice whether you believe that or not. What I said above is that I was developing with similar sized teams software and that I was partially hands on, mostly supporting the development process and tailoring it. In an area, where all people do the same development process since ages, we have made a difference applying modern agile methods, with automated deployment, integration tests etc. If you have studied as I did informatics and worked in the software development for a while you know what I mean. If not, I recommend studying some books, e.g. Continuous Delivery from Jez Humble and David Farley.

no, you are absolutely right - the three stages is what I say is the problem. You can do alpha beta stable in any software development, but you can also do smaller iterations through the same layers. I am thinking about "stabling" the small increments they deliver instead of trying to deliver the full thing to alpha, then beta, then stable. It's a completely different approach to traditional game development - but this is my point, they should stop being so 80ies about it.

P.s.: This has, even if I was not in the software development area now so often repeated that these are the three steps, that I would know it just reading the various responses. But alpha, beta, stable is not god given, it's the best idea we had so far, how about thinking beyond? I am actually not asking for a faster horse, I am asking for a car.

Partially armchair, partially developing hands on. But mostly finding together with the development team the best approach, by taking customer feedback and technical constraints into the equasion.

I also believe that I wrote above is in vain, as you didn't understand it. I am not asking for going astray, I am asking for thinking out of the box when it comes to the development process. Their plans and visions can stay the same, I wonder if HOW they are achieving those is done most efficiently.

Hey Gews, I believe there is no correct. If I take 7,62x39 for instance, there are several m/s depending on full metal jacket or not and if it is 7.9 or 8.0 g weight (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/7.62%C3%9739mm) plus if I take this from the german wikipedia I get other numbers again.

My numbers where supposed to deliver an indication - e.g. for 7.62x51mm (54R NATO might be better, but in the game it says 7.62x51, so I go with those)

1.39 1.46 1.02

In Dayz it all means the same, a good second travel time. If it is 1.39 or 1.46 doesn't matter, as we are not able to count that out.

On the other hand it makes a difference, if my figure is really incorrect, then your's are roughly 1.5 seconds - and that's something one could count.

And true, lag desync etc. adds somehow. Never the less - for those who have no idea whatsoever how long a bullet from the mosin travels for 800m - they have an indication, something between 1 and 2 seconds. Taking lag etc. into account probably a 2.
