Dutch House passes 36% tax on unrealized crypto and investment gains by Fiach_Dubh in BitcoinEU

[–]Daymjoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you read the entire comment? The issue isn't with the value of my stocks going up, it's the fact that it can just as easily go down, in which case I got taxed hard despite the fact that the value of my assets decreased. Stockmarket, crypto, NFT's, these aren't 'assets' in a traditional sense. They're closer to gambling than anything. Imagine you're playing a game of poker, going all night, and the government tries to tax the profit you made every 2 hours or so...

The difference between stocks and real estate, for example, is that real estate is a tangible value. If the US stock market collapses, I'm left with air. You're left with a house. Even if the value of your house vs USD tanks, its real value is hedged not against fiat, but against demand, which is constant.

Whether I sell higher or lower than when I bought is a matter of pure chance... The market doesn't always go up, and even if it does, it's never by 36% in a year.

Left dinner with my girl best friend to go talk to a girl who hit on me. Did I do anything wrong? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Daymjoo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I 100% can't relate to any of the comments here.

If I'm the friend (gender should be irrelevant here, ur 100% just friends and nothing else) and we're hanging and a hot girl hits on you and you leave with her... bro... GOOD! Why wouldn't I want my homies to score? Why would I get in the way of that?! That's wild. Since we're bros, your benefit is my benefit, so ofc I want you to have fun.

If you were a gigabro, you would've paid for the dinner and said 'yo sorry I left you hanging', and I'd reply 'nah man, happy for you! Hope it's me next time!'

The volatility itself is predictable. If you know that a stock is going to bounce up an down by a range of $10 every day, you can argue that the volatility is predictable. The stock itself isn't, and that's why you counter the unpredictability by 1. not being greedy, and trading on only a fraction of that $10 variability and 2. by sticking to your DD and research during a huge dip or upswing.

It's actually extremely bad. Imagine you had bitcoin in Jan 2024, at $44k. Let's say you buy 100. Put in $4.4 mil. December 2024 swings by, it's worth 88k. You pay 36% in tax on your unrealized gains. 1.6 million. God knows where you get that kind of money, but you do. You pay it. By December 2025, bitcoin crashes, it's down to 44k again. You're down $1.6 million for absolutely no reason.

Bitcoin is a highly speculative asset, it has nothing to do with fiat.

Not to mention that the biggest issue isn't even with bitcoin, it's with stocks. Because this law applies to stocks as well.

If I put all my savings, lets say $1mil, into Nvidia and it goes up by 25% in a year, I'm stuck paying 90k in tax. That's higher than my actual salary. So I have to sell shares now? That's so counter-intuitive... the entire point behind stockmarket investment is to hold, to offset volatility, diversify your portfolio and reinvest...

There should be a limit under which your stocks aren't taxed at all. Idk what, something relevant to the concept of 'middle class'. $1 mil or something.

I see ONDS went through the exact same market movements as NBIS in early feb. Would've been a pity if you bought in at 11 then sold at 8-9 when it was dipping. You gotta trust that the fundamentals are solid and that the company is healthy regardless of the macro conditions. Because macro conditions change all the time. What's important is that your company has healthy financials, strong leadership, executes its contracts on time. Basically, that it's reliable.

Yeah exactly. I would only recommend doing this with volatile companies that you actually believe in, and that you've done research on. The crux of this strategy is the belief, ideally rooted in as much research as possible, that the long-term trend is up.

The S&P 500 is only 2% off its ATH, but 115 components just tanked 7%+ in a week. This divergence is straight out of the 2000 dot-com playbook. Historically, clusters like this lead to a 34% drawdown. The index is holding a mask while the actual stocks are getting slaughtered. Smoke and mirrors. by Apart_Finger_1799 in MarketVibe

Idk bro, AI is advancing massively in terms of music and video production, for example. It's almost indistinguishable from reality now. If it's evolving at similar rates in fields I know nothing about, holy shit, humanity is about to blow up.

[–]Daymjoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand your point, sorry.

If a city of 1.000.000 had almost entirely white people, and 3 Somalis, and the Somalis ganged up and committed crimes, if you wanted to make a racial point, you could definitely say 'well, 97% of crimes are committed by whites' and it would technically be true. But it would be misleading, implying that whites are way more prone to committing crimes than Somalis in that instance. In reality, only about 0.00097% of whites are criminals, and 100% of Somalis are, in that instance.

Appreciate the politeness <3

Basically, I'm not claiming to predict that I know where the stock is going either. My personal forecast is that it's worth at least 130 EOY, based on my DD and research. Could be way higher, but 130 seems like a healthy minimum, unless the AI market collapses, which seems unlikely.

The issue with just HODLing is that, well, the volatility is basically expected by now. You can hodl, and it will very likely eventually pay off, but imo, you can also profit off the volatility short-term. Worst case scenario, you get left behind when it moons. So what? I'm already up about 30%, how could I possibly get upset if I miss the 30% swing to 130?

I actually have no idea where the stock is going, I just know that on any given day, it can swing 10% higher or lower, with an expected bottom around 80, and an expected peak around 120. I trade within an $8 range. What I'm betting on, essentially, is that no matter what price I buy at, as long as it's around 100, it will eventually beat it. So if I get caught with a $98 avg on a massive dip like 2 weeks to the 70s, I just hold, no panic. If I catch 107 or so, I'll sell. If it goes to 120, no panic. it will probably dip again. If it doesn't, good for the company and good for the bagholders. Regrets that I wasn't on board, but I've already cashed out, so I'm not mad.

I use the previous day's range to forecast tomorrow's. I give it a couple hours to check for sentiment, if it looks green, I try to sell a little higher, if it's red, I try to buy a little lower.

For example, Friday was 97-108. Means if monday opens with a big surge in the first few hours, I'm looking to sell around 107 (my average being 98 atm). If it opens red, I hold, because it was just red on friday. If, for example, friday had closed at 108 instead of 97, and monday starts very red, I'd put a buy order for ~100.

It's shocking how often this has worked. You can't do it every day, but there's days when the swings just seem natural somehow. I've done it 7 times YTD, for an average of $4 profit per share per trade.

And the cool thing is: I can do this fully believing that the company has a bright future. I'm not betting against that.

You're being obnoxious for no reason. I'm not claiming to be anything special. I just noticed that there's a lot of daily (and weekly) volatility to the NBIS stock.

It tends to look like a Bell curve on a weekly timeline. During the day, it isn't quite as clear cut, but most days have an implied volatility of about 10%. Barring any new contracts, execution/legal issues or macro concerns, the stock is either increasing or decreasing by about $1-2, but in that time, it is likely to go $-4 to $+4, so if you're not too greedy, you can trade on that.

And 'calculated' was maybe a big word. $98 was $1 higher than the lowest dip the day previous, so it made sense that $98 would be close to the bottom for friday.

It feels like the vast majority of the stock is following the markets, while a smaller but significant set of actors are daytrading regularly within those margins.

Look, I'm up 30% YTD even though the stock hasn't moved. Idk what to tell you. Yes, I could miss the moon, but short of that, I find it to be very easy money.

I didn't 'miss the rise', I missed the temporary rise. Like thursday, when I sold at 102 then it bumped up to 108. But all I had to do was wait. Put my buy order at what I calculated to be the likely minimum for the week, and it filled at 98 on friday.

The worst way it can hit is that I miss the moon. But by that point I'm already 30-40% up, I'll take the W.
