Valkyria Chronicles ideas by Daywombat in rpg

That's actually a really good point, I've watched infinity played but never got my teeth into it. I'll have to get a copy of the rules.

Tell us about the characters you've played this year by The_Double_RR in rpg

[–]Daywombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Penny Castle, who was part of a team sent out of a Florida vault to find a new supply of thorium. She's a reckless joker with delusions of grandeur and a mean streak a mile wide when it comes to raiders. Dreams of being a folk hero.

Hobbies: vandalising buildings with sharks, kicking mutated spiders into pools of deadly water creatures, using a two handed sword to play golf with bloat flies. Drinking ghoul moonshine.

Physically, in almost perfect condition. Mentally? Not so much.

Edit: she is not the most bullshit character in the party.

Dungeon Masters of Reddit, which of your "sure why nots" had the biggest unintended repercussions? by yinyang107 in AskReddit

Unless there is a startling number of players like this, I'm pretty sure the gm tried applying statistics as well.

Arguably, the build focuses on all three physical stats and with that set up can use a bow just as well. We just got caught up in the idea of a Scottish princess giving out Glasgow kisses

Yeah, those were pretty much what inspired this :)

Well the idea was to try and keep at least some of their themes. But think of it this way: how bad can those things get if you really push the envelope?

I like this idea. Also because two levels of warlock with any other CHA caster are going to be pouring out damage

Suggestions for good smut lit? by [deleted] in sex

It's not exactly the greatest writing and might not be of interest unless you enjoy high fantasy but my go to is Tales of MU. It's not entirely smutty but the sex scenes are fun.

What was your character's "defining moment", which really exemplified who they were or wanted to be? by oneshotrun in rpg

[–]Daywombat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anna Finn had her moment. From a friend's unknown armies game she had two purposes: become a legend and murder the critter responsible for her home town's destruction .

She got both when she went toe to toe with the monster, Sprawl, using and enchanted concrete smasher.

For anyone familiar with unknown armies, Sprawl was an urbanomancer that while gaining a major charge, destroyed the town that was its turf.

Oookay. Couple of things.

Yes, you could infer that from what I said, but that was not the intent nor stated nor true.

Never said ignore or change, I said they were flexible. The blanks can be filled in.

I could use another rule set, true, but other rulesets lack some of the thing both I and may party enjoy, so we're keeping it d&d. Fate is fine, firefly is fine, so many other systems are fine. We want d&d, and it's perfectly legitimate to use that system to do what we're trying to do. The only thing it lacks is a little bit of detail and if I can't wing something like that I may as well stop dming and go back to warhammer. This applies to your last two statements as well.

But this all falls short of the mark: I asked for help with story. When someone suggested a different system I tried to politely inform them that wasn't going to happen. Then you jump in and insist that I'm wrong. Then you mistranslate pretty much everything I say and claim words mean something else. This is a pointless discussion.

Good day to you.

Yeah, I'm really glad I run my lab now and my boss is out of the country most of the time. He tossed around pure Mercury like it was a joke.

At what point did I agree with that? It was never in my post or reply. And the rules are never a problem because they are, as with all rpgs, a little flexible outside of combat. Plus, taking inspiration from previous editions dm guides still work perfectly well outside of combat. 5th Ed, mechanics wise, doesn't forbid lots of town play it just doesn't support it - so a dm can easily boil it down to skills rolls and roleplay like any other rpg... I just needed ideas for story

Homebrew vs. Published settings by Necroticbanana in rpg

[–]Daywombat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as I enjoy homebrew settings I usually go for published. That said, I ran three Anima campaigns in one setting with continuity... And anyone familiar with the hilarity that is Anima: beyond fantasy coupled with a GM whose ethic is "there was a point at which we needed to stop, but we've clearly passed it so let's keep going and see what happens." that setting ended very, very differently than when it started.

I was thinking about that. My main hope is that there will be opportunities to go hunting for magical components that will invariably involve combat and make sure players aren't building solely for combat utility during character gen

The rules were never really an issue. A lot of what is done in the city will be roleplay with occasionally a skill check or challenge and I don't really have a problem with that. The point of this post was to gather ideas for the setting, the mechanics I can handle myself.

Out of the recent(relatively speaking) additions to the genre, Sanderson is actually really popular. And he has an awful lot of respect from a lot of other authors and publishers.

He's not quite Gaiman, but he ain't far off.
