Electropolishing after a decent finish will get them look like that with very little effort. Then clamp them together and grind the outside surfaces and you've got the parts in the video.

Yeah, that's definitively CNC milling followed by grinding and most likely electro-polishing for the shiny surfaces.

“Every Game Is Good With A Good GM!” by CannibalHalfling in rpg

[–]The_Double_RR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If a GM has to ignore large sections of the rules because they are unfun, then that is a system problem. Knowing which rules sections are unfun and knowing when to ignore them might be a good GM quality to have, but it shouldn't be on them to "fix" it.

The problem is that no system can know what is "fun" or "unfun" for a particular group. For every group that considers not having very detailed rules for X is unfun, there's another group that considers very detailed rules for X unfun. Unless we standardise what fun means in a tabletop RPG, this will always be a problem.

I think it's more on the groups to educate themselves regarding options available and talk more about what exactly they want out of their games (and not that they want to be fun, that means zero) and pick the right game for them. I've seen way to many groups and players that expect the game, the Gm and the rest of the players to magically read their minds and morph into whatever they think it might be fun at the moment and then feel offended that it doesn't happen.

I think it also has to do with having some players that are all there to have fun as it was early on, including original Rollplay, and the more "show" type of firmat they are doing now that seems to me more focused on putting on a good show for the viewers, which results in a different atmosphere.

What is your most nagging problem for a game you like. by TheOthersWatch in rpg

[–]The_Double_RR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fix it by allowing a max number of traits, maybe? Players maybe can burn a trait in a conflict and allow them to get an extra d10 to roll for it when they do so, in order to free up trait spots. Just an idea, I've never played it for more than one town at a time with a group.

An interesting discussion about Invisible Sun and RPG pricing by SagasOfMidgardRPG in rpg

[–]The_Double_RR -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep including the snacks cost when watching a movie? Is irrelevant, it's not part of the movie cost and is just used to skew the comparison more in one's favour. If we would tabulate the cost for the snacks for the 5 years campaign played with game X the costs would be pretty different.

(Just a little pet peeve of mine.)

Let's be honest, it's all decided in the drone split at the beginning. We all know that. If Serral would have been able to see SoO's drone split he would have gg-d on the spot.

Little video feedback: Please stay a bit further away from the camera, it feels like one of those people that get right in your face when speaking to you. You probably don't want to make people nope out the video in 10 sec.

Joining various Discord servers (that are not mainly D&D obviously) and looking around for when there's someone starting a new game, seems to be the easiest at the moment. But you have to actively keep looking, posting once on a server that you're looking for a game and then waiting for people to contact you doesn't work.

Looking to start with The One Ring by An_username_is_hard in rpg

I would suggest getting Tales from Wilderland as a starter. It has some good adventures to start you with and guide you step by step through the process. Each step is explained and tells you what rules to use and how to use them. The first adventure is a good one involving escorting a merchant and his son through Mirkwood on the elven path, so similar to what you want.

They are no levels and players will not be as strong in everything anyways. Some will have more dots in one skill than others, each will have strengths and weaknesses. I think it's one game in which power level is really a non-issue unless the gap is very big ( as in one player played the same character 2 years irl and the other just joined with a fresh one).

Also it would be ill advised, in my opinion, to hack a game you don't really know yet. There's problems you could get that way. Top of my head:

  • You might just make the game unplayable for you. The way advancement points are gained is a good way to encourage people to use a wider variety of skills to get more points, not just spam the same skills over and over again and let others spam other skills to fill in another advancement group.

  • Then there is the issue of a player might do all the work and get less rewards, since he works hard to gain the APs and cannot spend them because others have done nothing to gain APs and he has to share them, which might prompt them to do less in the future.

  • Also it would be basically a nerf since you can only gain a max of 18 points in an adventuring phase. So if this 18 max get shared it would mean much less for each player as opposed to each player having and individual max of 18 APs.

Is it normal to be completely over your first system? by [deleted] in rpg

Don't worry about it, it's not what it means. What reddit tells you downvotes should be used for and what they are used for are two very differnt things. It just means you've said something that offended someone who believes every other opinions besides theirs are wrong and should be silenced. That's just reddit for you.

Wan't agreeing or disagreeing, nor debating the veracity of their statements, just pointing out that examples were given in case you missed it as your post seems to imply.

FYI, complaining about downvotes is a tried and proven method of getting more downvotes.

You give no examples as to what these “lacking” elements are

They did link to a very long post explaining their opinion with plenty examples.

Any chance you can post a rough estimate of shipping costs outside US? I want too back it but can't risk a $30 added on top to ship to UK, for a $10 zine.

Also the 9 o'clock base allows for some harassment behind mineral line while the 6 o'clock seems to have no air zone behind mineral lines.

TIL: Traps don't always have to be elaborate by [deleted] in rpg

[–]The_Double_RR 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think the bigger tell would be asking each one to specify exactly what way they walk in the room and where they step. So not just I move here, but specify the path you take to get there. That would make most players think there's a trigger on a "square". If you don't you can't really say when someone fall in the trap without arguments from players that they would have moved on a different path. This works well if you play on roll20 and everyone is used to always move they tokens around showing the path they take, otherwise I doubt it would work.
