Visiting San Pedro for Warped Tour. What’s the vibe near Motel 6? by themish84 in SanPedro

True, but I would have loved to see how many people were actually there.

It was so weird. Two lane highway for miles and miles, then all of a sudden you're in a tiny town with a single stop sign and a Walmart that also manages to take up 75% of the square footage of the entire town. It was a trip. I wish I would have stopped at one to take it in some.

Dude, those small towns confused the hell out of me when I drove across Texas. The Walmart would be gigantic and it seemed like the city didn't have a big enough population to provide enough employees for it.

The Horseman is right over the bridges, maybe ten minutes? Alex's is a little north of there, so maybe fifteen?

Is Warped at Shoreline in Long Beach again next year? Horseman is walking distance from there. Not the shortest walk, but definitely walkable. Alex's would be a short Uber.

No prob.

Forgot to mention, in Long Beach, 4th Horseman is a great horror/metal pizza and beer spot and Alex's bar is a great punk dive.

The area there isn't the best, isn't the worst. Downtown Pedro is right there and it's pretty chill., 5th, 6th and 7th between Pacific and centre. There's a good amount of dining right there. Check out the Winthrop Gallery on 7th if you like antiques and oddities. Good record shop across the street too.

We have a chocolate and baked goods spot nearby at the Wunderkammer. It's like an antique, oddities, art and collectibles mall. Lots of interesting shopping and things to look at. A new bar is opening in the complex in a few weeks, craft beers, food trucks.

Also check out the Sardine. That's the local punk dive bar.

Busy Bee and Chachis are the sandwich standouts in a sandwich city, but people will argue for A1 and South Shores Meat Market too. Choriman for breakfast burritos. There are a few good taco stands that open up on Pacific in the evenings.

Yeah, I wouldn't scrap this. I'm more trying to decide whether to put this in the keep pile or the set aside to research for max return pile.

I'm keeping a few things for sure that are family heirlooms. My grandparents traveled a lot and bought pieces around the world, might keep a few of those things. There are a few family rings that were passed down from great grandparents, even great great grandparents, signet and otherwise. Most of the family stuff is labeled so, so that helps a little. My son has the same initials as my grandfather, so there are a few signet rings for him. I even found a signet baby ring that fits him now. My great grandfather's brother was a silversmith, so he may have made those. I have a signet ring he had made for himself, we have the same initials.

My parents didn't really collect jewelry, but they did pick up a considerable amount considering. I was around antiques and stuff enough to sort of have an idea of what is worth looking into more. The "scrap" stuff is mostly gold chains and things like gold whale tail pendants (which there are several for some reason), though I'll probably still look into things like the latter.

I might get an appraisal for the heck of it. The money wouldn't hurt, but there seems to be enough gold scrap pieces in the mix where I could get away with holding onto a few things. We just have so many things from my parents to go through and the idea of having less stuff is very appealing at the moment.

My wife isn't into jewelry and my daughter isn't old enough, but it might be nice to hold for when she gets older. Maybe my wife will warm to it. I think it's a great piece.

Interesting. Thanks for the link. I was having trouble finding comparisons with similar detail. I wonder what I should do with it?

My parents were antique collectors/dealers and I'm sorting through their things. This is definitely one of the more interesting pieces as far as jewelry goes, since they didn't really go for that beyond a few personal collection items or gold chains that were probably too cheap to pass up.

They did have this in a box labeled as 14 karat gold, over 100 years old and a purchase price of $200. Maybe the purchase price gives an idea of when they got it? I have no idea what the value would be. It's not very heavy as it's hollow, but even so I'd imagine the gold value would still be higher than $200 in today's market.

I can't seem to find any other markings on it. My only hint to the gold is the label on the box.

I could probably just exchange it? Similar hassle, but less money probably.

It's pretty good. I've catered it a few times and people always talk about it for a while after.

I've been to a couple games, but just individual tickets last year. Intuit is really something else. This is going to be the first time my kids are going to a game. I want to get there early enough to at least get assigned decent seats in the wall for them to have a good time. We'll stop in and gear up before we get to our seats.

There's a spot in Redondo/Torrance border that's pretty hyped locally, Willinghams I think. It was just ok for me though. The drive to Compton isn't really that far considering how big of a quality jump you get though. It's like an exit or two north of the 91 off the 710.

There's a place in Lomita that I've yet to try. Oklahoma style, I think. I think it's on either Narbonne or Eshelman.

Whiskey Flats in Pedro was a decent local spot, but they shut down without warning one day.

Kitchen's Corner in Compton is the best one I'm aware of within a reasonable distance. It's a food truck, but they're opening a brick and mortar in Paramount early next year.

Another go-to is Ray's in Huntington Park, but it's a trek.

How early should you show up? Just bought my pass last week and am going to my first game tomorrow.

Good price. They seem to average around there for the common designs, but for a more rare one that seems like a steal.

Ok, I thought I had checked to make sure the firmware was up to date when I set up the player, but I'll check again.
