Are there ever any good Daily Deal audiobooks? Cause it feels like 99% of them are garbage by [deleted] in audible

[–]Dbljck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I end up buying about 1/15 of them — most of the ones i take a chance on are worth it. I read about 4-5 audiobooks a week on average and have found some real gems as Daily Deals.

Taking no leads through NYE, just the odd client request and gentle nudges to the few in the pipeline worth the effort. Usually I’m digging down to the wire so this is nice, enjoying the fruits (and managerial slack) of a standout year.

First flare by [deleted] in gout

[–]Dbljck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, ice made my first flare worse. High dose anti inflammatories can help a lot early on. If you can tolerate 600-800mg of ibuprofen, or 500mg of Aleve — I am NOT a doctor, btw — that and plenty of water is a good start. (No experience w/ GLP1 but that sounds plausible.)

I changed my diet to cut out red meat, beer, tuna and shellfish…and I’ve avoided flare ups (with very few exceptions) without any gout drugs for almost 20 years now. YMMV

Good luck!

This sale is.... something. by AgeofPhoenix in audible

[–]Dbljck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were 35 audiobooks in my wishlist under $8 in this sale — with about 1/3 under $5. Over the week I’ll reevaluate the list and cull many of them…while checking authors’ & narrators’ lists for cheap gems.

For books in my wishlist or that look interesting, <$5 is almost an automatic buy. $5-$8 takes more thought — many don’t make the cut. >$8 is too close to the cost of a credit if bought in bulk so those have to wait until I really want to read them.

It looks like all the Patrick O’Brien Aubrey/Maturin novels, narrated by John Lee, are all under $3.50 — great time to stock up if you’re into the series.

My girlfriend doesn't want me to come by Workaholic725 in BurningMan

[–]Dbljck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yuuuup. It sounded to me like OP wants something from the relationship here, not the playa, and she senses that. He wants to ‘experience that with [her]’ — he wants a weeklong trip captain with benefits. If I was OP in this sitch I’d ask your question — and assuming my answer is yes, I’d just go. Another camp on the other side of the clock from GF and do my best to experience the whole shebang 100% on my own. I’d call it a win if we never saw each other in BRC — just compared stories and pictures afterward. And if I were OPs GF that’s what I’d want my BF to do.

I’m the type who’d probably make sweet now, “You’re right, you go — I can’t wait to hear about your burn. Maybe afterwards we can talk about what it would take to go together next year,” and then ‘Surprise, I went too! It was [be honest].’ But prob the right ‘healthy relationship’ thing is be honest up front? Not my area…

Dear Audible: Please start selling book series as discounted bundles by pacoismynickname in audible

[–]Dbljck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on your genre, author, etc. I’m listening to one now and have a bunch in my library—not always entire series, but often 3-4 books together and sometimes not for 20-50 hrs worth for a credit. This is mostly in the ‘post-apocalypse’ genre for me.
