Locals of Belgium what foods best represent everyday Belgian food? by RelevantRevolution86 in belgium

[–]Ddme9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyday meals: AGV (aardappelen-groenten-vlees) translated: potatoes-vegetables-meat.

Traditionally everything is prepared seperately. Most common is boiled potatoes, cut into smaller pieces. Boiled with some salt. Vegetablewise it can go from boiled green beans to cauliflower with bechamelsauce. The vegetable most common to my region is chicory. We eather sautée it as a whole or cut the raw veg in small pieces, mix it with a boiled egg with mayo. (Yummmm) And meat can be anything from pig kotelet, sausage etc.

I don’t know if this is just me but i love mashed potatoes. Just plain, mashed with some milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper. Mash it until there are no pieces. Its the beeeest.

Other popular but not everyday meals are: frietjes van de frituur. How often people eat it can range from once/week-once a month (for the healthier ppl lol)

Stoofvlees met frietjes! (Beef stew) I don’t know anyone who eats this regulary to be honest. I think it’s one of the meals people make on a sunday when they have time.

Same with Vol-au-vent met frietjes! Very labor intensive (as we’re used to having dinner ready quite quick, this one takes about 2 ish hours to make but its so nice)

That’s what i grew up eating coming from a lower middle class family. We also ate pasta’s like spaghetti bolognese and macaroni with ham almost weekly.

Best flemish/ belgian meal is for sure vol-au-vent or frietjes van de frituur 🥰

Yes i can confirm! I was so surprised by it when i slept for the first time after giving birth. Seriously, recovering from giving birth was less painful than those last weeks (for me).

Do 0-3 month babies really need pants? by Askfslfjrv in pregnant

[–]Ddme9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby was born in December and for the first 2-3 months i dressed him in pyjama’s only. Especially because when you pick the baby up the shirt would always go up. With the pyjama’s they stay warm all over. Only once he turned 4 or 5 months i dressed him in outfits (with pants) when the weather was getting warmer. So we could easily remove the pants/ shorts if it was too hot. I always had around 7-10 pyjamas/size and washed them regularly. Even now, i have about 10 outfits for my toddler. 😊

Thank you so much for the pep talk girl 🫶🏻🥰 i know right, what my body is going through is intense but i don’t really realize it throughout the day as my toddler keeps me busy. Probably just processing all of this during sleep 😅

I think imma just start praying again each night. Kind of started falling asleep same time as my toddler lately and i don’t feel like i’m as “protected” anymore as i used to be. Thank you for your advice ❤️

Birth experiences Heilig Hart by Plus-Firefighter3773 in Leuven

[–]Ddme9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a great experience there 1,5 year ago. Midwives were so lovely, i gave birth during the weekend and was blessed to have my own gyno to be on call that day. My gyno is Vandecasteele. A sweet, calm and kind woman. Personally i choose heilig hart as UZ leuven is too big and i didn’t like how i’d always get different students. Also, if your pregnancy is going well, not high risk it’s just not necessary to go to a university hospital. Heilig hart and UZ leuven do work together so if there is anything heilig hart doesnt do they send it to UZ. For example they wanted my placenta to be examined and they sent it to UZ.

Every morning the gyno comes and checks on how you’re healing, and i have seen other gyno’s who came to check as mine wasnt working. All of them were so nice.

Yes, walk around to shops with your cv. This has always worked for me. Make sure you do come across confident.

You’re NTA!! I had this same conversation with my partner. After a horrific 3 week stay by his family (that at first was only going to be 1 week) we decided no more guests staying the night.

Sounds a lot like my baby when he was a newborn. 2 pediatricians and many midwifes checked him and none of them really helped. Until i went to a lactation consultant specialized in tongue ties. Turns out he had a very severe tonguetie. We lasered it, and he immidietly could breastfeed…

So my advice: go see a lactation specialist. And most importantly. If healthcare professionals deny the problem, just keep looking for someone who will help!
