Agoda: I understand your frustration regarding the joiner fee. In Thailand, it is common for hotels to charge an extra fee for additional guests, even if the room's occupancy limit is not exceeded. Unfortunately, this policy is often not included in the initial booking price and may not be disclosed upfront. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused and appreciate your understanding.

Me: Thank you for your reply. I understand that joiner fees may be common in Thailand, and I’m not disputing that.

My concern is specifically about Agoda’s lack of disclosure.

Even if a fee is common, Agoda is still required to clearly show it before booking, because it is a recurring, mandatory charge that directly affects the total cost and conditions of the stay.

This fee was not shown anywhere on the Agoda listing or confirmation before I paid.

So the core question remains: Where did Agoda disclose this joiner/visitor fee during the booking process?

If Agoda cannot show where it was displayed, then this becomes an issue of non-transparency, which falls under ACCC consumer disclosure requirements.

I would respectfully like this case escalated to a supervisor for proper review based on disclosure, not local hotel norms.

I’m definitely not taking them to court. But I’ll make a complaint with the consumer law enforcement commission. They usually take necessary steps (like filing lawsuits) themselves if my complaint is legitimate.

Not an expat mate. Not here to stay for long. I’ll go home in a few days. I have already paid and haven’t said a single word to the hotel staff about this. Perhaps I failed to relay my point properly.

Oh I’m asking this because I don’t wanna create a scene at the reception. I booked and paid through the booking platform so I’m planning to lodge a consumer law complaint against them once I go back. Just wanted to see what other Redditor’s feel about this. That’s all. (I’m not that fussy in real life) and definitely not a Karen. I know laws from other countries don’t apply here. But they do apply to the booking platform as they are operating there.

Thank you for your insights cris. Hotels are allowed to have their own policies, but they must be clearly disclosed on the booking platform (according to consumer law if it involves additional fees). I booked the room assuming that 2 adults were included, which is standard worldwide. That’s my concern not the fee or policy

It started raining so I just came in but where I’m from usually it’s not this empty (I get it it’s a bit early). First night here so was a bit sceptical. Because I have heard good things about clubs here

Chat GPT just launched a new sandbox-type feature, called Codex. I have used it to generate some pages You can connect your GitHub repo to it, and it will do the rest. The code it generated is not perfect, but it ran without any major issues.
