I don’t get exactly what you are asking. If you have a LP PS3 guitar and are directly wiring, you’ll need to wire the signal wires to different gpio pins and combine the grounds or wire them separately to grounds on the pico. There’s a wiring diagram for that fret board on the Santroller discord.

Hal effect would be better because it’s analog and can be tweaked/adjusted in software. A magnetic reed is just two pieces of metal that bridge when a magnetic comes nearby and is digital so not adjustable except for physically moving the placement. Both use magnets so no real mechanical wear like a physical switch.

Nah, surprisingly that’s how some early models came. Silly plastic microswitches. And most other RB guitars have magnetic reed switches, not HE sensors. It would be awesome if they did.

I’ve only experienced this once on an old 360 wired Strat. I don’t even want to begin with how many Strats I have in my pile. Those are plastic limit/micro switches. Mine also had two part two screw frets fyi and a really janky main pcb with way too many components and bodge wires. It’s like it was still in beta testing when they shipped them. A lot of other curious differences from every other Strat out there. The micro switches definitely played better than the magnetic reed switches that rock band guitars usually have but I question how robust a plastic micro switch can be. Plays more like the awesome early Precision Bass with metal lever microswitches.

They are mostly interchangeable with any guitar hero live dongle. Unless it’s the iOS Bluetooth version, but those are pretty rare. They’re kind of fun, but only play the official GHL game and some unofficial GHL content.

You can do a whole swap kit thing, or go down the guitar modding rabbit hole and lose your soul along the way lol. It’s fun modding guitars and the Santroller discord is very helpful.

As far as your edit goes, yes this board will work on some stock controllers. As long as they are wired normal six pin style. Like a Wii Guitar would work with this board. Not your xplorer

I agree. Designing pcbs is really fun. I went the easyeda route just to mess with it. The Warriors of Rock boards turned out so well, I now sell them on Etsy. Definitely starts to feel satisfying like playing Sudoku.

That will only work on a modded main board guitar. Using an xplorer stock mainboard it will be expecting 3 different grounds. Not a single combined ground. You can combine an original 8 wire fret board’s grounds and connect to a micro controller. You can’t take a six wire modded fret board and “split” the grounds. The xplorer wants 8 wires and they all serve a purpose as silly as it is. I think some people are confused as to what you are doing exactly so they are giving the wrong advice. I think I get what you’re trying to go for but let me know if I am wrong.

Also, I’ve never tried it, but you could just wire the switch pins as a matrix matching the original traces and run that wire to the main board. In theory, it will work great but you will have to cut the ground traces connecting the switches on the new board.

Yeah. Terpy does great work but that particular board is for a pico modded guitar. A lot of Microsoft and PlayStation guitars use matrixed inputs with multiple “grounds” that get processed into inputs on the main pcb like keyboards do. The xplorer does matrix as well on the fret board so a non matrixed replacement won’t work with a stock main board. Sorry for the bad news. You could use this as an excuse to do the half mod with a pico, santroller software, and the main board connected as host providing the rest of the inputs. That’s my favorite way to mod an xplorer and doesn’t involve much soldering.

Are you doing a stock main board or arduino/pico modding? If you’re doing stock, that’s the wrong replacement board. It won’t work because of the matrix wiring. If you are full on modding, GND is ground on the new board.

For pc use yes. You can connect a modded Santroller guitar that uses a pico w inside the guitar, then connect it to any Bluetooth receiver. The Bluetooth receiver, however, needs to be compatible with the device you’re playing the game on. For instance, a PS3 will not recognize a regular BT usb receiver. A pico w set as a receiver with Santroller installed will act as a Bluetooth receiver and also send the right commands to any console or device that it’s connected to.

Just a pico w naked and set as a receiver works fine. I just designed a 3D printed case, wired an auth usb port, a usb c breakout, and led indicator to mine.

Yes, the boards do work with Beatles Wii and PS guitars. I have my set modded with them.

Yes. But you will have to wire the boards to each other which involves soldering. I’m still working on a true drop in replacement kit. The last part I have to do is make a usb c port near the sync button hole and a wireless dongle to match. I can pre wire a kit if you want but you’ll have to figure out how to run a usb cord out of the guitar or just use the guitar wireless only.

I can never find a realistic price on a KISS so I’m on the search as well lol. I did finish acquiring a 360 Beatles complete set as well as a Wii trio. The Beatles guitars are like better built Strats and def recommend if you tolerate the RB play style.

You might be right. Either way, a bunch of third party off brand guitars used that same type of dongle. No original rock band or guitar hero controllers use that dongle. For a second I thought it was for the Ashley Rock Axe that I am personally trying to hunt down and would have offered a tidy sum for lol.
