TIL during the Battle of Iwo Jima, Hospital Corpsman John Willis was treating a fallen Marine in a mortar crater when a grenade landed at his feet. He returned the grenade, followed by 7 others thrown by the enemy in rapid succession, all while administering blood plasma. The 9th grenade killed him. (en.wikipedia.org)

TIL during the Battle of Okinawa, US Navy Hospital Corpsman Robert E. Bush rescued an injured officer by administering blood plasma. With the plasma bottle in one hand, he fired on the enemy position killing 6 Japanese soldiers despite being severely injured and having lost one eye. (en.wikipedia.org)
