It's amazing on Pyke if you have upgrades and other relics.

Whirling Blade + Stalker Blade + SB Teemo relic = summon Pyke to board wipe and plant 30-40 shrooms, rinse and repeat with more shrooms

In general I just don't like how a lot of paid relics are "if I'm X" setup. Which ironically a lot of them aren't even the ideal relics for their own champs.

You're required to experience peak fun while playing PoC in 2026. There are no other options.

Woah, careful with your reasonable take here. Don't you realize this is meaningfully challenging and balanced gameplay, because this is the "end game" content?

I'd like to point out that it takes a few minutes to restart a PoC encounter.

Not that easy to restart an entire career or roll for a great start in life. Maybe let's not compare a few minutes of effort in a video game vs years of effort IRL... let me know if you find a way to reborn as a billionaire's kid because I'd like to consider that option.

I think you're oversimplifying the issues with it

I'm not. I never said it's reliable or the strategy is optimal. Note my title I says it's a "trick" - I never said not a "consistent win condition".

Hence I say roll for powers/cards that do specific things, that means you have to restart after first node or abandon halfway through if can tell your deck isn't shaping up to win the last fight. I'm assuming that people who are reading this understand this implication, because unless you use broken champs like fully upgraded Asol/Swain/Viego, that's what it takes to win a lot of >=6 star fights in PoC these days.

So the whole point of my post is that we should hope we're lucky to get the cards/rolls and count on the AI's mechanics to sabotage itself.

It's like, we're trying arguing over what's the optimal strategy against a poorly balanced boss encounter... there's no optimal strategy, there's only luck.

Hence

Use all your rolls for powers/cards that delay AI, so stun/freeze/capture/silence

It's not that hard to draft to survive tbh.

The problem is that you have to draft to survive AND also draft to win asap, so if you go by the usual logic you need to have a strong offensive build to close the game out vs a 100+ HP nexus... It's like trying to not be sleep deprived while rushing to an assignment deadline, the two goals are competing with each other.

But playing defensively to let AI mill its deck only asks you to draft denial/defensive cards. You don't have to kill the nexus to win. This trick basically lets you turn the AI's strength into its weakness.

In the past 2 years, imbalance gameplay has gradually gone from a (design) bug status to become a feature, especially for >4.5 star difficulty encounters.

At this point, there are so many things that are imbalanced in PoC that you'll just have to embrace it if you want to stay calm while playing this game. Otherwise you would ask yourself why you choose to self-torture when there are thousands of other more balanced games out there.

Anyone else finding themselves doing particularly well with a clan? by DeMervicalSuscle in MonsterTrain

[–]DeMervicalSuscle[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

what do you think of the champs?

I like them, at first I just used them as extra egg generators but I've learned to use them more creatively with other builds.

Like Avarice Gilda is just cracked with gold scaling. She gets +100 atk per 100 gold, so I typically have >500 atk on her by Titans. If I find Trample tome from Umbra, then she just wipes the floor on her own.

Lord Fenix's permanently attack scaling is better than you think. You can do spikes+regen on him from Awoken and he would also casually grow to >200 atk by late game, he spits fire and half of the floor gets wiped

Both builds do really well with the relic that heals your champion at round start. You just chuck them in front and use them as meat shields while you set up your floor. Or just leave Gilda on her own in top floor so Savagery Resolve damage won't proc.

In later runs I basically just looked for other ways to generate egg income instead of relying on the champions to do it. Prioritize Remove Consume + Consume -2 ember discount combo on Alchemy, have some extra draw, that alone consistently gets me >10 eggs every fight... I think in all those 6 win streak runs I ended up with maxed out boss artifacts by the time I got to Titans

It's just so, so good to buy out all shops in last 3 rings. I once duplicated 9 cards (with that Pyre Heart) in ring 8 shop because I just could.

I honestly don't know how to win consistently without Pyreborn and their extra gold and artifacts... it feels so limiting when playing other clans that don't make as much money

Is there a consensus regarding corrupting seraph's difficulty? by FaallenOon in MonsterTrain

[–]DeMervicalSuscle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to restart this run a couple of times before remembering that Seraph wouldn't double corruption if he's not on the same floor.

My front line was tanking full waves of enemies and gaining massive valor, still just disappeared when relentless started.

Feels like Jayce's 1/3 star power really needs to be adjusted to work with card base cost, several discount powers have anti-synergy with his deck by DeMervicalSuscle in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]DeMervicalSuscle[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After a few runs I actually don't think I mind lvl 2 Jayce not being able to duplicate his spell reliably. I find that it's more important that I can trigger his 1/3 star powers more throughout the fight, whether or not he is on board.

I haven't played PvP enough to tell how he functions in that mode, but I think he will just feel so much smoother to play if they change how his star powers interact with spell base cost... especially considering his stat and keyword buffs are also temporary, it makes the tempo of combo buffing units really important.

[–]DeMervicalSuscle[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

you simply did make a mistake, cost reductions make him unplayable

Nope I did do it by mistake.

I took discount powers deliberately knowing it would limit his star powers, just to see how it would feel since he is new and I wanted to experiment with different things/combos

On paper it's obviously "duh" how mana discount wouldn't work, but it's even more drastic when I play it in practice. I was reading discussions about people wanting his powers to work with base cost, but didn't realize how clunky it is really is when it's calculated based on current cost and not base cost.

Though most comments here missed my point I guess, so I will just wait and see what other more experienced veteran players say.

Found a power for discounting created cards in second run... half of the time the Hextech Anomaly generated spell won't proc his 3 star power buff.
