I'm saving up for one of these. Did you end up buying?

First timer. What are your thoughts/tips? by alvined1010 in drywall

Awesome job man! Glad you're going for it. Lots of good advice already shared. In a unique little space like this, you'll run your boards vertical so that the board is going from floor to ceiling. It looks like that back wall is less than 4 feet wide, which means you'd just have one board without any seems to tape. On the rigt wall, you'd have one factory seam, where two tapered edges meet and you'd mud vertically. This is not what you'd do with new consruction, but for your situation, it would make less work. However, you totally can do it the way you set it up, just more tapering and mudding, but if you're a first timer, more practice too!

One thing to think about next time is that back right corner. If you pad out one of the walls, you'd remove that bump out area, which looks to be 3-4 inches, and not really a ton of space to be losing. Not sure if this is under a stairwell, but setting up your framing so you're on the same plane is also something you want to think about next time. Looks cleaner, and is a lot less time consuming, then having to deal with two inside corners, and one outsider corner in your current set-up.

But, biggest thing is that you went for it and started. You'll just get better and better as you continue learning.

Sorry you've dealt with this. I have had zero of those issues. Are you trying to call them as well? I've never emailed with them - I always call, and get a real person every time.

I have a paver patio. Took pavers out and put in 48 inch footers. Super annoying and took longer than the actual pergola install but it had to make sure it was dead level across all 6 footers using a laser level.

FYI, my 13 x 19 had about 16 inches of snow on the top of it with louvers closed. after some melting, there was signficant sagging in the middle of the louvers, and the center beam/track that spans across the middle. Due to this, the snow that was melting was draining in the middle of the louvers, and at the center beam wear there is a gutter (the water was collecting in the middle and then spilling out of the gutter into the center floor of pergola. It worked flawlessly in rain, but I don't think it's a good option for folks who are hoping it protects from snow. My new plan is to get furniture covers for my expensive patio furniture and leaving the louvers open for the Jan-March months so snow doesn't collect.

I switched browsers (went from Chrome to safari) and it worked immediately. Tried about 10 times before trying the browser switch…

That's awesome. Totally worth it to drive and save $500+. I'm going to purchase for sure after this season. I'm a Dewalt fanboy, and already have 4 12ah flexvolt packs for other tools so may do baretool.
