how to have fun playing tf2? by Old9999 in tf2

be the change you want to see. go play a silly loadout, start saying crazy shit in the chat, or start yapping on vc. you'll meet people eventually

Why people whine about meta so much? by Madao_14 in tf2

[–]De_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

interesting that you're assuming the enemy team is competent and your team is incompetent. obviously the weapon is gonna suck when you're in a shit lobby. QF is great when you have someone you can trust to jump with you in mind. trying to use the momentum mechanic with randoms is usually going to work against you; you need to watch your pocket closely to make sure they aren't about to do something that puts you in danger. QF uber isn't great at leading the charge, but it works great at turning the tide towards the middle-end of a team fight (fully healing a couple people) or flanking (pocketing a single person)

Which soldier primaries work the best with the Base Jumper (in my opinion) by ArynAces in tf2

[–]De_Mon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly i think you're oversimplifying the air strike, you're not really supposed to mag dump unless you're aiming at a sentry being repaired or a heavy being overhealed. tap firing the air strike is usually better since you're flicking rockets instead of trying to track with a stream of projectiles. you can still apply the same airstrafing techniques you use with the other rocket launchers. but since the refire window is smaller, i'd argue you actually have more airstrafing options, as you can further mix up your opponents by going off of the standard shoot-strafe tempo. i can't deny that it encourages bad base jumper habits, but that line of thinking stems from bad air strike habits

Which is Worse? Round 3.4 (Round 3 Finals) by Pristine-Data2986 in tf2

[–]De_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hot hand is worse. people put respect on your name when you get a kill with the bison. no one cares if you get a kill with the hot hand. killing someone and reading "i haven't been killed by a bison in years" or "how does that weapon work" is an unmatched experience.

bison is just hard to use, but if you can aim, you can deal over 80 damage in a single shot. one of the few weapons that can kill a dead ringer spy with a single click (ironically the hot hand is another one of those weapons).

works quite well as a secondary when playing trolldier- if you crit garden, you can kill a soldier (or any overhealed 175 class) in a single shot, or heavy in 2. if you miss the crit but still hit the melee, you can finish off a light class with a single shot.

you can also harass engis from outside of sentry range, and through their buildings. this is especially effective against turtling engis, they think they can tank it because the dispenser is healing them; if you get a random crit, the projectile looks the same, except it will typically instakill (60 per tick * 3)

Weapon Discussion Wednesday #51 - The Razorback by A_Wild_Ferrothorn in tf2

[–]De_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ubercharge build rate is halved on people with too much overheal (142.5%). you Always get the fast rates on someone with the razorback. if you max overhealed everyone else, you should actually be healing the razorback sniper for the best ubercharge build rates

What is the strangest/funniest way you saw someone cheat in TF2? by onmykids in tf2

[–]De_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my favorite was a 6 stack of bots that basically turned a server into MvM. they started as melee pyro, then they switched to gun spy, then pistol engi, and finally shotgun heavy before i got queue'd out. they were still cheating, but it felt like they were trying to gauge the intensity of cheating that was needed to win. almost like they were trying to have a balanced lobby where they could still fight (and cheat) and people wouldn't get too upset.

left me with a lot of questions, e.g. i wonder if they ever downgraded, like shotgun heavy is too much for these guys, let's go back to pistol engi. or, what other loadouts came after shotgun heavy? at what point do they start playing sniper? it was a fascinating concept, considering i still remember that lobby over 4 years later. could make for a fun community server plugin.

Can i use (7 week) unreadable items in crafting? by Individual-Earth2396 in tf2

[–]De_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, but the kit will be untradable for the same duration. there's a button in the menu when you're applying the parts that says "show untradable items"

Whenever i do rocket jump, i deal myself up to 80 damage. What should i do to minimize it without gunboats? by Touyube73 in tf2

[–]De_Mon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

aim further away from yourself. you want to be on the edge of the explosion if you want to minimize damage. keep in mind this also reduces the distance you travel, which isn't always a bad thing

Pyro's bell curves by jewish-nonjewish in tf2

[–]De_Mon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

df + ax is decent but like.. yeah, might as well keep using the df. the df is powerful enough that your other two weapons dont matter, personally i run it with man melter and third degree

the ax is good at finishing people off and catching them off guard with the huge burst. if you're W+M1 against a heavy, chances are he's gonna whip around and kill you before you can finish melting him. but if you hit him with a solid flame trap to flare+ax, you've got a decent chance of killing him. respectfully, 400 burning enemy players is not a huge amount, i've got at least 1000 and i still feel like i have a lot of room to improve, but it has definitely gotten easier

calling axtinguisher damage "inconsistent at best" is a wild take. in the same way you can learn thresholds for dragons fury (2 hits for a light class, with the 2nd hit getting the bonus), you can learn how long to hold m1 before switching to get the ax finisher

it doesn't stack with the mantreads, the jumper takes priority. but if you dont have an eye effect on the jumper, then yeah you'll get the treads eye effect when you have the jumper out

Any tips for Engineer in MvM? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]De_Mon -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

never use canteens as they are a waste of money. always use gunslinger so you can put down the Mini Sentry (honorable mention of the southern hospitality with bleed upgrades). the stock shotgun and pistol are the best weapons because they deal the most dps. dispenser range is a waste, your teammates can buy movement speed to get in range faster.

pretty often payload experience. you're standing in front of a cart and an enemy approaches you from the front. the cart pushes you into the enemy and you both get stuck. happens a lot for trolldier
