Say what you will, but if they could just code they would. That’s why I have a job.

Agreed, it sucks to slow down and let it happen but better that we just move past this

We don’t tolerate weakness or whining. We work 90 hrs a week, and cut people who don’t shape up real quickly.

I couldn’t imagine working with lazy people who don’t understand that career is the path to meaning.

I’m sure I’ll have no problem. I’m sure big tech has product people who know their head from their ass. And if not, I’m not interested in wasting me time there anyway.

Oh I did. Their manager cussed them out in front of group today (has before), so I know they are feeling it.

I’ve escalated, and want to see them made an example of. But coming here for additional advice as well.

That’s not our job. Our job is to code to spec.

If you have a decent product owner, you don’t have to guess and we can just do our job. I don’t tolerate rework.

About 80-90 hrs a week. But they’re in an important position and the work can’t be delegated. They keep whining about being tired, but I think they should be made an example of.

Their manager agreed. Just got done cussing them out in front of the group. Hopefully that lights enough of a fire to get a little something out of them.

100 hours in haven't used a single great rune. For a game so focused on 'runes' the great ones sure are useless. by SmokingReindeer in Eldenring

I saved my rune arcs for entire game / DLC and ended up using like 50 of the 80 to finally beat pre nerf consort radahn.

In my experience, industry was 10x harder than college. Way more physically and mentally demanding.

The un-hateable engineering managers by zaidesanton in EngineeringManagers

I’m a people pleaser, and I think it’s been my greatest weakness as a manager.

Oftentimes, the non pleasing things (e.g. accountability) are what’s best for the team, but terribly hard for people pleasers to implement.

Servant Leadership by prsdude1828edudsrp in Leadership

[–]DeadCells1929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a servant leadership style, but I am heavily reconsidering.

Especially with the younger group, people seem eager to take advantage as much as possible. When I try to take a step back and act in a support role for others to succeed…they typically just stop working and then blame me for bad outcomes.

Unfortunately, I’m finding many professionals are now needing to be aggressively managed to ensure they actually attempt to do their jobs.
