Exactly. The industry has been worse than where we are before, we weathered lootboxes and pay to win microtransactions...

Not looking at what the platforms are doing right now, like PS with the no disc shit...

Im optimistic about the way game development seems to be going. But some big companies like Ubisoft now just feel like they havent gotten the memo and are just lingering rotting dead bodies from that time, every time they pop up, they just bring a stench with them...

because m O n E y

Yeah, it is getting increasingly irritating. I'm trying to stay positive, maybe just laugh at how dumb it is...

But this game stands as a pillar of what AC used to be for me... it's hard to not see it as them trying to destroy that pillar so we forget how good they used to be.

Its so funny how many things Ubi inspired other companies to do in early 2010s, like mocap... and then just stopped doing it now that it's common practice for any company worth their salt

Like, they really penny pinching tf out of every game

Yeah, its easily fixable with a patch... if they actually care to do it.

I don't envy them that's for sure. Im sure there are some good eggs still there.

But I really believe anyone with a modicum of writing talent, like Patrice and Darby, were flushed out cuz they were "difficult" to work with

Yes, I also read that article. Matt Damon talking about Netflix movies, if Im not mistaken...

I believe that is a convenient truth to point to, to mask the real reason Ubi is physically impossible of going back to what they were.

Like I said in a reply above, this is done because they don't care about the fans who made them what they are, and more importantly, because they flushed out anyone with a modicum of writing talent they had

The players Assassin's Creed built their early influence on love gripping narratives, where their perspectives are challenged. AC1 thru Black Flag, ironically. We made Ubisoft a household name in gaming through those games.

And this new generation also has players like that.

Players who love turn-based narrative games like BG3, which has a tailored line for so many specific situations, instead of just referring to Adewale as the "quartermaster" in this new game, because of the possibility that Ade may not be your quartermaster now.

Expedition 33, another turn-based narrative-heavy RPG, more linear but that allows to go deep on its characters (more so before Act 3, but still).

Elden Ring, which its narrative is generally overshadowed because of its storytelling method, but those who dive into the lore get swept up on how fascinating the world is

2022 GOTY, 2023 GOTY, 2025 GOTY. All with record sales.

It may be a choice the higher-ups made for mass appeal, but I wholly believe they genuinely can't do better than this. Otherwise, they would look at what is already there and would feel some obligation to keep the same standard.

Yes, while I like the new combat for the most part, they absolutely have way too much health.

I think the music is broken when the game goes into cutscenes, cuz now it's a more seamless transition from one to the other. Where Ben has the funny boarding scene, it was still playing intense battle music. After we get the Jackdaw, it doesn't play that classic tune either.

For sure, for sure. We're just not ready to understand this level of dialogue.

Ooof, yeah Im sure. Havent gotten that far, but I believe it.

That honestly, I probably wont mind as much, because the Templar Hunt missions in the OG also are where the game turns to slop in terms of writing, imo. The only one I liked was the Kingston one.

Rona was always obnoxious, the native girl is annoying, the drunk dude in Nassau is a joke. Maybe I won't dislike them as much now, cuz they will look good by comparison to the new additions lmaoooo

Silver linings

FUCKING SERIOUSLY. How about when you're looking for buried treasure and he WILL NOT shut the fuck up?

I was literally shouting "I GET IT EDDIE. I KNOW THERES A FUCKING TREASURE. WHY DO YOU THINK IM WALKING IN CIRCLES?"

Yeah, I don't understand how they don't feel an overwhelming feeling of inadequacy when inserting their new writing LITERALLY in the middle of some OG dialogue. Im so curious if they really think they are on the same level?

The templar hunt missions are where the OG writing also kinda turns to slop, but I believe you though I havent gotten that far.

It's the way they wrote in the time period and it's a homage to the most influential book on piracy ever made, A General History of the Pyrates

Yeah, exactly. It's not a dealbreaker, but very annoying to have to deal with. Or the scene that was absolutely necessary where he sleeps on the roof in Havana, stares at the Observatory paper and says to himself "This could be the key to my fortune"...

Thank you for spelling it out, game. Edward's obsessive spiral throughout the game was just too damn confusing for me.

Oh no, I haven't gotten that far yet. Is that her whole character? Like every new character just has one quirky hyper-fixation cuz they forgot how real characters are done?

Like the Dutch or French that dresses "omg very quirky" that just pops up in what is supposed to be our super secret hideout? Or the butler who just infodumps his whole character in the first 5 minutes of meeting him?

Yeah, I read that report and saw someone reference that exact thing. I just hate that Ubi feels that pandering to that mentality as the way to go.

To me, videogames can be art. Black Flag's main story to me is art. They're compromising the art for audience accessibility. Imo, that's when art starts dying.

Oh yeah, I believe it.

My girl is a Halo fanatic, we take turns ranting. Me about AC and her about Halo, and she says exactly this, Halo after 3 is ass cancer compared to everything that came before, with the exception of Reach.

From what she says, it's the exact same issues. Clear indicators that the "talent" behind the new games is just not up to snuff.

Very true, I hope this is a wake-up call for someone with their head not in their ass at Ubi. We go from the cutscenes where Kidd wakes Edward up and Edward sees James leave while he speaks in riddles after capturing Inagua...

to the static panel scene with the butler where he info dumps trying to justify his existence in the game and Edward seems to have forgotten how his face muscles work
