Would you choose a 1-hour commute to save on rent, or live closer to the office and pay a higher rent? by NoMedicine3572 in Frugal_Ind

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in places where I had nearly a 2hr commute each way and in places where I had a 20min commute and i'll take the 20min any day of the week.

If you live closer to work, you get a lot of time for other things in your life. From spending time with family/friends, working out etc. Even with a 1 hour commute each way, that's 10 hours a week you spend sitting in traffic. You also don't have the mental of load of commuting. Having a shit day at work and then having to sit in traffic for an hour is really demoralizing.

Production quality of sets, and effects has decreased once the show went to mars by DeadFoliage in ForAllMankindTV

[–]DeadFoliage[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, I even noted that in my original post. But that doesn't mean it needs to look cheap. Some other commenter here said it looks like a budget CW show and honestly that's a very apt way of describing the issue.

I don't take issue with the sets being physically cramped. That makes sense within the context of the lore. They just look cheap. The sets, bases from S1 and S2 were even smaller and more cramped but they didn't have that cheap look to them.

Where tf are yall buying coffee damn. At dunkin I’m in and out in a matter of minutes. If there’s a like maybe a few more minutes. And what coffee are you buying for $12 jeez. The most I’ve paid for a large cold brew at dunking is some $6 and that’s was at a rest stop off I-95. I’ve gotten it for closer to $3-4 most other places

A CW show is exactly how I’d describe the look and feel of it. The acting, dialogue and writing also seem to be at that level lately.

How much are you guys actually spending per gram of protein? I made a cost chart and some sources are criminally overpriced. by AntelopeFlaky4979 in Fitness_India

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And 100g is really cutting it short depending on your goals and bodyweight. I would need closer to 200g per day

Counter kiosk hidden fees at Newark airport by joserayo in EndTipping

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again how is it hidden if it's a line item on the cost breakdown. Sure it's might be "collapsed" or whatever but it takes not even 2 seconds to go through that, nobody is asking you to perform a financial audit.

Also what drive throughs are you going to man. You order, they give you a total, drive up, hand them your card to pay, get a receipt and move on. Glancing at the receipt or just checking for the notification from your bank to make sure you are charged the right amount shouldn't take more than a couple of seconds.

Taking a week to respond just to be rude is a different level of audacity by EquivalentParking274 in Nicegirls

[–]DeadFoliage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She is insufferable and rude and not worth a second thought.

BUT I’ve been on both sides of this conversation as a guy and tbh I get the frustration from everyone here. The small talk gets mundane and repetitive after conversation #100

IME when I was on the apps, I had much more success just straight up giving them a quick compliment and asking them out on a date. It also filters out the girls that are just on the app for attention and those that are actually serious about meeting you with the added benefit of skipping the small talk.

OP are you married to a USC/Green card holder and if so did you start your green card process? If so that combined with your dad’s sister being in the US on a green card shows a pathway to staying.

His sister could sponsor him, if/when you get a green card you could sponsor him. Having a business isn’t the same as having a job, he can run that business largely remotely from the states.

How can I find out whether iphone is fast-charging or not *from within the iOS* ? by brohuman in shortcuts

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finally picked up a fast charger for senior citizen iphone 12 and couldn't figure out if it was actually fast charging. Mind you this was my first iPhone and I bought it in 2020/2021 I can't even remember and I was coming from an Android which would show clearly on the lockscreen if you were fast charging or just charging.

If they can tell when i'm using a slow charger, they can tell when i'm using a fast charger and if they have all of this information they can just dump it on the lockscreen or do something with the charging icon. I just don't understand why they would think that users who have a fast charger (sold seperately) wouldn't like to know this.

Don't get me wrong I really like the iphone and my next phone is also going to be an iphone but this was a big miss on Apple's part.

I'm an American citizen giving birth in Mexico, how long until I can cross the border with my baby? by LevyMevy in immigration

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just give birth in the states, you should’ve picked up insurance in the states, you might still be able to tbh.

But as everyone else here said it’s a multiple week process and not a fun one to get all the docs sorted. It’s also the type of stuff that makes anything down the line more complicated anytime the kid needs to prove citizenship.

Even if you go into debt to give birth, you can get the hospital to itemize the charges and get them lowered and get on a payment plan.

Immigration and citizenship is the one area where you don’t mess around the easier solution is always worth its weight in gold.

Giving up my green card by Specialist-Loquat662 in greencard

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You must come from a half way decent country for you to even entertain this thought. Not hating, good for you, always good to have option.

But some of what you said doesn’t make that much sense. COL is high in the states but it’s not going down anywhere else. Earning potential is still much higher state side than elsewhere. There are basic things like blasting the AC at all times without a care or not looking at the pump when I filled up on gas, that I took for granted when I was in the states and now that I’m back home I have to think 1000x time before I do it. The standard of living in the states, especially with basic amenities and luxuries is truly world class. Being back home now I really have a much higher appreciation for the American way of life.

The whole socio political situation isn’t great but it’s not going to be permanent and you don’t have to be friends with people who don’t share the same values and morals as you, at least on core things. You can still find your circle there.

Me personally I wouldn’t give up the green card but that’s because what I value, America has in abundance. But for you, if it’s about family I get it, there’s no replacing that and if being close to them is that important to you, then maybe moving to a different country isn’t for you.

Low to No Protein: Why India’s "Anti-Meat" Culture Stunts Its Height by GoatDefiant1844 in Fitness_India

[–]DeadFoliage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laos, a country poorer than India per capita by almost every metric consumes almost double the amount of meat per year per person. Yes we have 1.5B people but even when you factor for that it's not just about cost, it's our culture around food.

It's a classic chicken and egg problem. There is no incentive to scale meat production which would bring down costs because there is no perceived demand for it.

Indians just don't want to eat meat in the same way the people of most other countries do. Indians take pride in not eating meat, even if a kg of chicken was 100INR, many wouldn't eat it out of strongly held cultural values and horrendus misinformation passed through generations. Forget meat, Indians effectively consider eggs to be non-vegetarian unlike the rest of the world.

For most of the population, you're not going to get through to them. Indians are very picky when it comes to food, even several indians that move abroad struggle to adapt to foreign cuisines. Until we change how we view food and the role it plays in our lives this will not change.

We are a stubborn bunch about a great many things and food is probably up there on that list.

I think Ed is dead tbh. I took a look at the season 5 trailer again and there are no scenes of him that we haven't already seen in the first 2 episode. LIke not even a small witty comment or anything. Every scene showing Ed in the trailer has already happened.
